Book Experienced Pastoral Burnout and the Self reported Role of Emotional Intelligence on Leadership Effectiveness During Burnout

Download or read book Experienced Pastoral Burnout and the Self reported Role of Emotional Intelligence on Leadership Effectiveness During Burnout written by Craig W. Folds and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotional intelligence (EI), employee burnout, and effective leadership traits are constructs that have been researched from a traditional, organizational perspective since the 1970s. Over the past 15 years, pastoral leaders and clergy have been identified as leaders working in the same capacity as public safety officials, medical professionals, mental health specialists, and other helping professions. Research suggests that leaders working in helping professions are often exposed to situations that may induce burnout, create emotional dissonance, and may have adverse implications on effective leadership behaviors during experienced burnout. The significance of this study lies in its identification of a gap in the literature that investigates the self-reported causations of pastoral burnout and the roles of self-reported emotional intelligence on effective leadership behaviors during burnout. Therefore, this phenomenological study explores the self-reported factors that contribute to levels of pastoral burnout and the self-reported role of emotional intelligence on pastoral leadership effectiveness during experienced burnout among 12 senior-level pastors who lead in non-denominational churches with 50-500 congregants in the Southeastern region of the United States. The study was conducted using a phenomenological qualitative research design. The participants were interviewed face-to-face. The interviews were uploaded into the NVivo data analysis program where the participants’ statements were transcribed to identify themes and patterns that satisfied theoretical saturation. The constructs of this study were founded on theological and theoretical frameworks that supported the research and interview questions that guided this study.

Book Leadership and Organizational Outcomes

Download or read book Leadership and Organizational Outcomes written by Engin Karadağ and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the effect of leadership on organizational outcomes and summarizes the current research findings in the field. It addresses the need for inclusive and interpretive studies in the field in order to interpret leadership literature and suggest new pathways for further studies. Appropriately, a meta-analysis approach is used by the contributors to show the big picture to the researchers by analyzing and combining the findings from different independent studies. In particular, the editors compile various studies examining the relationship between the leadership and thirteen organizational outcomes separately. The philosophy behind this book is to direct future research and practices rather than addressing the limits of current studies.

Book Lived Experiences of Assemblies of God Pastors with Regards to Leadership Style Demands Stressors and Ministry Burnout

Download or read book Lived Experiences of Assemblies of God Pastors with Regards to Leadership Style Demands Stressors and Ministry Burnout written by Barbara Christina Chavez and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to discover the perception of 15 small church Assemblies of God pastors in San Antonio with regards to leadership style, leadership demands, leadership stressors, and ministry burnout. The researcher used the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) approach due to the openness of collecting the data through semi-structured interviews that allowed participants to respond to open-ended questions. The additional interview instrument was the WLAB scale and the burnout inventory instrument from Iverson, Olekalns, and Erwin (1998). The researcher coded and evaluated data using NVIVO12 software. Through the association of common themes, the researcher unearthed responses to the vast challenges for clergymen in ministry and retention. Participants established that their lack of training led to unnecessary stress. Nevertheless, the pastors' primary source of stress, was dealing with people in their congregation. Intrapersonal conflict becomes just another stress attribute to the already long list of congregational demands a small church pastor is responsible for. In addition, over half of the pastors interviewed could not define their job description. The common sentiment was that their job description consisted of all that the ministry required, from building to congregational needs. There is limited time available for spiritual and self-care. Further stating that the ministering and caring of others takes a toll emotionally and physically. Not allowing for the proper care of mind, body, and spirit could lead to ministry burnout.

Book Spiritual Connection Within

Download or read book Spiritual Connection Within written by W. Ruben Exantus and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2023-09-07 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few words about the origin of this book and why it was written will help the reader to understand its teaching. This book is the outcome of a series of Bible studies I taught on prayer at Grace Baptist Church of Apopka, a church I pastored for nearly twelve years in Orlando, Florida. The idea came to me while putting into practice what I taught the congregation concerning prayer according to God’s will. A great number of people go to church every week across America and around the world, but unfortunately, they never have a personal time with God in prayer. The only time they spend in prayer is when they gather with the congregation for corporate worship. Can you imagine a Christian who only prays to God once or twice a week? Prayers addressed with others practically means there is nothing personal about it. Don’t get me wrong. I believe in corporate prayer, and I think it creates an atmosphere of worship and fellowship where many believers get together to pray. It is essential to the life of a church. The true church of God will not go without it. In addition, there are those who pray to God often and alone. They seek times of silence in their lives to be with God alone and pray. However, there is an important question that must be addressed if we want God to answer our prayers. Do we pray according to God’s will? I believe deep in my heart that there is a great misinterpretation among Christians in regard to the subject of prayer, which leads to a lack of spiritual power in many followers of God. I think it’s time for you to find out what might be the cause of that spiritual weakness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can church leaders be effective without sacrificing their marriage, their family, or their health in the process? How can good leaders get stuck churches unstuck without becoming another casualty? Burnout or Breakout provides answers to both. The burnout epidemic among church leaders, combined with cultural volatility, uncertainty, and complexity catalyze with unhealthy church processes to get churches stuck. All these forces combine to stifle good leaders until it seems that no reasonable leadership effort can succeed. This book brings new insights to churches and church leaders frustrated with making tireless efforts to move the church, yet constantly falling short of their goals and objectives. It helps church leaders avoid quick-fix solutions that actually keep churches stuck by applying systemic, long-term solutions. This book brings hope to stifled leaders on the verge of burnout. Building on biblical and experiential evidence, the author presents burnout as a systemic problem. Seeing from a systems perspective enables leaders to discover how their church really works and provides tools and strategies to help them realign their church system for health and effectiveness. Based on a comprehensive introduction to systems thinking, leaders are encouraged to see their congregations as complex systems of interrelated and interdependent elements. Effective leadership, from a systems perspective, aligns the church to achieve intended outcomes. Based on the account of Jethro and Moses in Exodus 18, leaders are equipped to identify and diagnose church systems designed for burnout and provides strategies to overcome the stifling forces within the church. Leaders are further equipped to apply systemic thinking to common church system problems, such as declining attendance, mission confusion, and volunteer shortages. Brings hope that stifled leaders and stuck churches can break out of their limiting conditions by investing time and effort to learn and practice seeing from a new systems perspective.

Book Methodist Pastoral Retention

Download or read book Methodist Pastoral Retention written by Joseph F. O'Donnell (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study targeted pastoral burnout symptomology and its relationship to self-perceived leadership attributes. Pastors experience a professional environment that call for ministering to their congregation's spiritual needs; however, additional social and business responsibilities often exist for which the pastor is poorly trained or improperly supported. These situations may cause high levels of stress and anxiety, challenging a pastor's self-perception of their leadership attributes. Eventually, this condition could promote the onset of burnout, which might compel the pastor to leave the ministry. As such, this research sought to establish whether a relationship exists between self-perceived leadership attributes and ministerial burnout for licensed, ordained, or lay clergy (n = 100) serving a congregation of 250 or fewer individuals in the Florida, North Georgia, South Georgia, and Alabama - West Florida Conferences of the United or Global Methodist Church. The design used in this study was a quantitative correlational approach, which determined the degree of relationship between self-perceived leadership attributes and burnout symptomology. The independent variable was self-perceived leadership attributes, measured across five clusters (Drive, Organization, Trust, Interpersonal, and Tolerance) utilizing the Leader Attributes Inventory. The dependent variable was burnout symptomology, measured across three dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and satisfaction in ministry) employing the Francis Burnout Inventory. The Spearman Rho Correlation Coefficient and Ordinal Regression comprised the IBM-SPSS data analysis. The results indicate a weak, yet statistically significant relationship exists between self-perceived leadership attributes and reported levels of burnout.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author has achieved his goal of providing spiritual and pastoral support for lay ministry by covering a wide spectrum of interests: historical information, spiritual growth, personal reflection, and career choices." - Lay Ministry Newsletter of the National Association for Lay MinistryLay Ministry unmasks the notion for the average Catholic that the consistancy of the tradition is also unquestionably clear. Rademacher routes us from Moses to Paul, from Ignatious to Gregory VII to John Paul II, tracing both the theology and practices that underlie contemporary ministry in the church. The trail is one that few Catholics have ever had the chance to walk, and the end point is far different from the one to which we have become accustomed. Rademacher makes points that must be understood and discussed at every level of the church if the church is to remain vibrant in our own times. The limiting definition of the seven sacraments, the restriction on lay participation in the church, the loss of the spiritual meaning of ministry, the clericalization of the church, the effects of sexism on sacrementality, and an inadequate understanding of the nature of the Christian call are all stones across the door of the tomb that block the resurrection of the church to the fullness of life. Rademacher faces them all, forthrightly and courageously. What's more he makes us face them too. Do I recommend it? I would assign it." - Joan Chittister, O.S.B.
