Book Passive Solar Commercial Buildings

Download or read book Passive Solar Commercial Buildings written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final design of the Mount Airy Public Library is given. Incremental passive design costs are discussed. Performance and economic analyses are made and the results reported. The design process is thoroughly documented. Considerations discussed are: (1) building energy needs; (2) site energy potentials, (3) matching energy needs with site energy potentials, (4) design indicators for best strategies and concepts, (5) schematic design alternatives, (6) performance testing of the alternatives, (7) design selection, and (8) design development. Weather data and Duke Power electric rates are included. (LEW).

Book An Economic Model for Passive Solar Designs in Commercial Environments

Download or read book An Economic Model for Passive Solar Designs in Commercial Environments written by Jeanne W. Powell and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an economic model for evaluating passive solar designs in commercial environments. It discusses the literature on this topic and draws upon this literature to develop a general methodological framework. The model incorporates a life-cycle costing approach that focuses on the costs of purchase, installation, maintenance, repairs, replacement, and energy. It includes a detailed analysis of tax laws affecting the use of solar energy in commercial buildings. Possible methods of treating difficult-to-measure benefits and costs, such as effects of the passive solar design on resale value of the building and on lighting costs, rental income from the building, and the use of commercial space, are presented. The model is illustrated in two case examples of prototypical solar designs for low-rise commercial buildings in an urban setting.

Download or read book Passive Solar Buildings written by J. Douglas Balcomb and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes developments in passive solar technology that will save time, energy, and resources in planning for the buildings of the future. This companion to Passive Cooling and Solar Building Architecture (volumes 8 and 9) describes developments in passive solar technology that will save time, energy, and resources in planning for the buildings of the future. It is filled with tips and useful research for architects and designers and includes three substantial chapters on general modeling. Passive solar heating works. Properly designed and constructed, it is cost-effective, practical, comfortable, and aesthetic. Balcomb's introductory remarks set the tone for the rest of the contributions, which describe the considerable record of achievements in passive solar heating. Balcomb summarizes and evaluates the era between 1976 and 1983 when most of the major developments took place and highlights the design features that have contributed to effective buildings. Three chapters cover modeling passive systems (applicable to both heating and cooling), and six chapters focus on the application of passive solar heating, with emphasis on components, analytical results for specific systems, test modules, subsystem integration into buildings, performance monitoring and results, and design tools.J. Douglas Balcomb is a Principal Engineer with the Solar Energy Research Institute.

Book Passive Solar Commercial and Institutional Buildings

Download or read book Passive Solar Commercial and Institutional Buildings written by Robert Hastings and published by . This book was released on 1994-04-05 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference work encourages the design of buildings which are adapted to certain climates. The buildings presented as examples are designed for a future when non-renewable resources are scarce and expensive, and solar energy is valued for its environmen

Book Willow Park II Community Center Design Report for the Passive Solar Commercial Buildings Design Assistance and Demonstration Program

Download or read book Willow Park II Community Center Design Report for the Passive Solar Commercial Buildings Design Assistance and Demonstration Program written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design process for a passive solar community center in Texas is documented. Weather data are given. Energy analysis for early drawings is performed using the ENERGYLOOK program and the results shown graphically. Energy consumption and cost data are given. The design evolution is then traced and the performance of alternative designs compared. Design indicators for best strategies and concepts are discussed and the final design is presented. Energy consumption and cost are given, along with incremental passive solar design costs. A schematic review meeting report and life cycle value tables are included. Overviews, unavailable information, incremental passive design costs, performance comparison of alternatives, and architectural compatibility are discussed for each step in the design process. (LEW).

Book Willow Park II Community Center Overview of the Design Report for the Passive Solar Commercial Buildings Design Assistance and Demonstration Program

Download or read book Willow Park II Community Center Overview of the Design Report for the Passive Solar Commercial Buildings Design Assistance and Demonstration Program written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final design of the 4130 sq ft community center is briefly reviewed. Incremental passive design costs are broken down and tabulated. Energy consumption by various components is computed by the ENERGYLOOK computer program, and the final design's energy use is computed with the DOE-2,0A program. Results of these computations are shown graphically. Life-cycle values are computed using the VISICALC program, and the economic analysis results are tabulated. Design drawings are included. Incremental solar construction cost estimates are tabulated. (LEW).
