Book The Passive Solar House

Download or read book The Passive Solar House written by James Kachadorian and published by Chelsea Green Publishing. This book was released on 2006-07-31 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revised and Expanded Edition - Includes CD-ROM with Custom Design Software For the past ten years The Passive Solar House has offered proven techniques for building homes that heat and cool themselves, using readily available materials and methods familiar to all building contractors and many do-it-yourself homeowners. True to this innovative, straightforward approach, the new edition of this best-selling guide includes CSOL passive solar design software, making it easier than ever to heat your home with the power of the sun. Since The Passive Solar House was first published, passive solar construction expert James Kachadorian has perfected user-friendly, Windows-compatible software to supplement the design process explained in the book by allowing homeowners/designers to enter the specifications of their design and see how changing a variable will affect its energy efficiency. This is the building book for a world of climbing energy costs. Applicable to diverse regions, climates, budgets, and styles of architecture, Kachadorian's techniques translate the essentials of timeless solar design into practical wisdom for today's solar builders. Profiles of successful passive solar design, construction, and retrofit projects from readers of the first edition provide inspiration to first-time homebuilders and renovators alike.

Book Passive Solar Design Calculations with the DOE 2 Computer Program

Download or read book Passive Solar Design Calculations with the DOE 2 Computer Program written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DOE-2 computer program has been modified to improve modeling of passive-solar buildings by the addition of the custom weighting-factor method. The thermal-load and air-temperature calculation procedure in DOE-2 are described. Assumptions inherent in the use of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) precalculated and the custom weighting factors are discussed. Calculated results from DOE-2 are compared with measured heat-extraction rates and air temperatures for four buildings. These comparisons indicate that DOE-2 can accurately model direct-gain passive buildings and can treat night-ventilative cooling and water walls in an approximate manner.

Book Thermal Analysis and Design of Passive Solar Buildings

Download or read book Thermal Analysis and Design of Passive Solar Buildings written by AK Athienitis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passive solar design techniques are becoming increasingly important in building design. This design reference book takes the building engineer or physicist step-by-step through the thermal analysis and design of passive solar buildings. In particular it emphasises two important topics: the maximum utilization of available solar energy and thermal storage, and the sizing of an appropriate auxiliary heating/cooling system in conjunction with good thermal control. Thermal Analysis and Design of Passive Solar Buildings is an important contribution towards the optimization of buildings as systems that act as natural filters between the indoor and outdoor environments, while maximizing the utilization of solar energy. As such it will be an essential source of information to engineers, architects, HVAC engineers and building physicists.

Book An Economic Model for Passive Solar Designs in Commercial Environments

Download or read book An Economic Model for Passive Solar Designs in Commercial Environments written by Jeanne W. Powell and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an economic model for evaluating passive solar designs in commercial environments. It discusses the literature on this topic and draws upon this literature to develop a general methodological framework. The model incorporates a life-cycle costing approach that focuses on the costs of purchase, installation, maintenance, repairs, replacement, and energy. It includes a detailed analysis of tax laws affecting the use of solar energy in commercial buildings. Possible methods of treating difficult-to-measure benefits and costs, such as effects of the passive solar design on resale value of the building and on lighting costs, rental income from the building, and the use of commercial space, are presented. The model is illustrated in two case examples of prototypical solar designs for low-rise commercial buildings in an urban setting.
