Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Bryant and Tynleigh's Prequel* Passion is everywhere. It's in everyone, especially women, just waiting to be freed. I like to pride myself on finding the most passionate. The ones that don't need me for anything other than a good time for a while and then moving on with their lives. My life has been one spiral of fun right after another, and I like it that way. I live with no regrets. I've experienced women in many forms. I've loved, lost, and found again. I love their bodies, I lose her when she's tired of being sexually benefitted friends-or in the last case, running back to the one that she wanted all along-and then I find another when the perfect target stumbles upon my witty charm. It's a repetitive game I've played most of my teenage and adult life. I'm perfectly fine with a woman using me, as long as she's using me for my body. But I suppose the last one could have ended before I was ready. Just as I was preparing to bang my way into someone else, Joel called. When the fucker calls, I drop what I'm doing and fly to New York, because it's usually warranted, and he's family. God only knows he's been dished a shitty hand. It was supposed to be a rescue mission like it always is, but maybe it's me that needs to be rescued more than anyone. There she was-the woman that will forever change my life. I just didn't know it when I boarded that plane, California bound. It's funny how consequences to our own actions can bring us to the very place we're meant to be . . . for the rest of our lives. And dammit, she's just as resistant as me.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 APA William James Book Award The concept of passion is one we regularly use to describe our interests, and yet there is no broad theory that can explain the development and consequences of passion for activities across people's lives. In The Psychology of Passion, Robert J. Vallerand presents the first such theory, providing a complete presentation of the Dualistic Model of Passion and the empirical evidence that supports it. Vallerand conceives of two types of passion: harmonious passion, which remains under the person's control, and obsessive passion, which controls the person. While the first typically leads to adaptive behaviors, the obsessive form of passion leads to less adaptive and, at times, maladaptive behaviors. Vallerand highlights the effects of these two types of passion on a number of psychological phenomena, such as cognition, emotions, performance, relationships, aggression, and violence. He also discusses the development of passion and reviews a range of literature on passion for activities.

Download or read book Passion for Work written by Robert J. Vallerand and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-31 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passion is a pervasive concept in the work domain. Workers aspire to be passionate in the hope of finding meaning and satisfaction from their professional life, while employers dream of passionate employees who will ensure organizational performance. Does passion for work matter ? Does passion invariably bring about the anticipated positive outcomes or is there a darker side to passion for work that can also lead to negative outcomes for individuals and organizations? The goal of this book is to address these issues. This volume reviews major theories of work passion, focusing specifically on the dominant theory: the Dualistic Model of Passion. This theory distinguishes between two types of passion-harmonious and obsessive- and their associated determinants and consequences. This volume provides a comprehensive understanding of passion for work by addressing the origin of the concept and its theoretical issues: how can passion for work be developed, what are the consequences to be expected at the individual and organizational levels, and how can passion for work shed new light on contemporary issues in the workplace. Passion for Work: Theory, Research, and Applications synthesizes a vast body of existing research in the area, provides insights into new and exciting research avenues, and explores how passion for work can be cultivated in work settings in order to fulfill both workers' and employers' hopes for a productive and satisfying work life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 2002 Christianity Today Book of the Year! Postmodernism. The term slowly filtered into our vocabularies about three decades ago and now permeates most discussions of the humanities. Those who tout the promises and perils of this twentieth-century intellectual movement have filled many a bookshelf. And in a previous book, Postmodernizing the Faith: Evangelical Responses to the Challenge of Postmodernism, Millard J. Erickson provided his own summary of several evangelical responses--both positive and negative--to the movement. Now in this book Erickson offers his own promised in-depth analysis and constructive response. What are the intellectual roots of postmodernism? Who are its most prominent exponents? What can we learn from their critique of modernism? Where do their assumptions and analyses fail us? Where do we go from here? What might a post-postmodernism look like? Erickson addresses these issues with characteristic discernment, clarity and evenhandedness, neither dismissing the insights of postmodern thought nor succumbing uncritically to its allure. An important book for all who are concerned with commending Christian truth to the culture within which we live.

This book reflects the dawn of a revolutionary approach to living. Norman Vincent Peale anointed Jim McReynolds as minister of joy to the world. The most important characteristic of a minister of joy is humility. This book teaches people the purpose of our lives is to create an atmosphere for joy and miracles to happen. Life is difficult. Building a wealth of joy enables us to know happiness. Readers will enter the joy of the Lord as they reflect upon their own joy. This book can be used as a text for study groups. Questions for reflections are included at the end of each chapter. This book was envisioned during studies at Vanderbilt University and the University of Oxford in England. The material has been shared during a lifetime of weekend retreats, conferences, and seminars for churches, schools, workplaces, and community groups.

Book Experimental Arts in Postwar Japan

Download or read book Experimental Arts in Postwar Japan written by Miryam Sas and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the years of rapid economic growth following the protest movements of the 1960s, artists and intellectuals in Japan searched for a means of direct impact on the whirlwind of historical and cultural transformations of their time. Yet while the artists often called for such “direct” encounter, their works complicate this ideal with practices of interruption, self-reflexive mimesis, and temporal discontinuity. In an era known for idealism and activism, some of the most cherished ideals—intimacy between subjects, authenticity, a sense of home—are limitlessly desired yet always just out of reach. In this book, Miryam Sas explores the theoretical and cultural implications of experimental arts in a range of media. Casting light on important moments in the arts from the 1960s to the early 1980s, this study focuses first on underground (post-shingeki) theater and then on related works of experimental film and video, buto dance and photography. Emphasizing the complex and sophisticated theoretical grounding of these artists through their works, practices, and writings, this book also locates Japanese experimental arts in an extensive, sustained dialogue with key issues of contemporary critical theory."
