Book Passion killers The art of passion killing in the age of stress and anxiety

Download or read book Passion killers The art of passion killing in the age of stress and anxiety written by Phillip Walden Bowen and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is growing pressure and stress placed on organisations to fight for customers and service/product placement in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. It has, therefore, never been more important to get the best out of the workforce. To achieve this, the role of the leader can be a fundamental factor in organisational success or failure. Leaders need to have the requisite skills to reflect the demands placed upon them in the 21st century. There are the “accidental managers” who just drop into the role of leadership and others who may develop skills and knowledge in readiness for a leadership role. There are also those who may have the innate ability to lead. Within the mix are those who are characterised by traits associated with the “dark triad” or who may use “pathocratic influence” on others to conform, reinforcing values (or lack of values) associated with toxic leadership. They create damage and harm. They become “passion killers”. The result can lead to a “pathocracy”. This book discusses the role emotional intelligence plays in helping people deal with stressful and challenging experiences, suggesting different ways to cope. The author reflects on the values that are integral to the success or failure of an organisation. “Passion” is identified as an added value that can differentiate one organisation from another. If passion is harmed, it can affect motivation, creativity, output, performance, and productivity. Therefore, this book provides the reader with examples of “passion killing” while making suggestions as to factors that can be adopted to engage and encourage passion. Conclusions are drawn and recommendations made to support those faced with “passion killers”. This book is aimed at those of all ages and educational backgrounds interested in developing their leadership knowledge and skills. It is also aimed at those interested in learning more about differences in personality, emotional intelligence, stress, coping, values, and the importance of understanding the impact of “passion killers”.

Book excerpt: In Secrets of Greatness, Dr Burrell provides us with a route map to success of the very highest order, consistent with the greatest model of success known to us, Jesus Christ. Based upon an intimate study of the Old and New Testaments, and a lifetime’s work as a pastor, and drawing together such disparate threads as psychology, biology, history and motivational dynamics, Dr Burrell gives his readers a meticulous and definitive explanation of the essence of greatness and how it is within the capability of each and every one of us to achieve more than we ever thought possible. A thorough and passionate exploration of what it means to be great, using examples of great men and women through the ages, Secrets of Greatness decries the notion that true success lies in power, money and status, and illustrates instead that the pinnacle of human achievement is attainable only through the transformative and healing power of our relationship with God. In each chapter and section, the author shines a light on a different aspect of the process of becoming what we are destined to be in the Creator’s great plan for us, and illuminates the spaces through which we all must travel on our journey to greatness. Dr Burrell explores his subject with the keen mind of a scholar, the compassion of a man of God and the tenacity of a warrior, and has written a book which is as uplifting as it is useful. It is a book which can only fill us with hope for the future. Secrets of Greatness is a corrective for our secular age – a spiritual book in materialistic times - and a tonic for all those who thirst for a different measure of success than is commonly presented in our media.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passion is a pervasive concept in the work domain. Workers aspire to be passionate in the hope of finding meaning and satisfaction from their professional life, while employers dream of passionate employees who will ensure organizational performance. Does passion for work matter ? Does passion invariably bring about the anticipated positive outcomes or is there a darker side to passion for work that can also lead to negative outcomes for individuals and organizations? The goal of this book is to address these issues. This volume reviews major theories of work passion, focusing specifically on the dominant theory: the Dualistic Model of Passion. This theory distinguishes between two types of passion-harmonious and obsessive- and their associated determinants and consequences. This volume provides a comprehensive understanding of passion for work by addressing the origin of the concept and its theoretical issues: how can passion for work be developed, what are the consequences to be expected at the individual and organizational levels, and how can passion for work shed new light on contemporary issues in the workplace. Passion for Work: Theory, Research, and Applications synthesizes a vast body of existing research in the area, provides insights into new and exciting research avenues, and explores how passion for work can be cultivated in work settings in order to fulfill both workers' and employers' hopes for a productive and satisfying work life.

Book Heartland Serial Killers

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard Lindberg
  • Publisher : Cornell University Press
  • Release : 2011-04-25
  • ISBN : 150175713X
  • Pages : 275 pages

Download or read book Heartland Serial Killers written by Richard Lindberg and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-25 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lindberg, an accomplished local historian and true crime writer, presents a fascinating story of two contemporaneous serial killers, both weaving marriage and murder in and around Chicago during the 1890s and 1900s. Johann Hoch was a debonair bigamist and wife killer who boasted of having perfected a "scientific technique" to romance and seduction. Belle Gunness was a nesting "Black Widow" whose sprawling farm in Northwest Indiana was a fatal lure for lonely bachelors seeking the comforts of middle-age security by answering matrimonial advertisements placed by Gunness. Notorious in his own day, Hoch had faded into the dark background of Chicago crime history. But, in Heartland Serial Killers, Lindberg brings back vividly the horrors of one of Chicago's first celebrity criminals and uncovers new evidence of a close connection between Hoch and H.H. Holmes, the "Devil in the White City." Unlike Hoch, Belle Gunness, likely the most prolific and infamous female serial killer of the twentiethe century, has remained fascinating to the public. Here, Lindberg presents the most comprehensive and compelling study of the Gunness case to date, including new information regarding ongoing DNA testing of remains found at the site of Gunness' farm in LaPorte, Indiana, which may serve to resolve once and for all the mystery surrounding Gunness' death. Told in alternating chapters and rapidly paced, this book is true crime at its best—gripping, pulpy, and full of sharp historical tidbits. True crime fans, history buffs, and those interested in local lore will delight in this chilling tale of two ruthless killers.

Book The Case of the Chocolate Cream Killer

Download or read book The Case of the Chocolate Cream Killer written by Kaye Jones and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true story of the seemingly respectable woman convicted of a murderous spree in Victorian-era Brighton, England. In 1871, when the news broke of a series of mysterious poisonings in the popular resort town of Brighton, shock and horror gripped the public. Even more disturbing was the revelation that the culprit was not a common criminal but a local “lady of fortune,” Christiana Edmunds. Starting in March, Christiana had sent out dozens of poisoned chocolates and sweets to Brighton’s residents. Her campaign resulted in the death of four-year-old vacationer Sidney Barker, and wounded countless others. Her arrest in August provoked such an emotional response from the local public that her trial was moved from Brighton to London’s Old Bailey. The prosecution anticipated an easy victory. Christiana had not confessed, but witnesses confirmed she had purchased strychnine and their testimonies placed her at the scenes of the crimes. She had a motive too, argued the prosecution; she was a scorned woman. Despite the defense’s best efforts, the jury took only one hour to convict her of the murder of Sidney Barker and the attempted murder of three others. This book tells the engrossing story of the crime, the trial, the darker underworld of Victorian Brighton, and the ultimate fate of Christiana Edmunds.
