Book Passion Fruits Production From Seed And Micro Propagated Plants

Download or read book Passion Fruits Production From Seed And Micro Propagated Plants written by Dorcas Isutsa and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written using information gathered from laboratory to post harvest stages of passion fruits. It describes seed acquisition, germination, explant initiation, proliferation, rooting and transplanting. Also included are best horticultural practices for establishing, maintaining, harvesting, grading, marketing, gross margin analysis and solving challenges. Photographs have been used to illustrate facts. The book bridges the gap between a high-tech laboratory system and general farming activities for passion fruits. The micropropagation procedure has been presented simply to facilitate understanding and to show that their products can be carefully transferred to the farm. The book shows that at the farm level, normal fruit plants develop and grow like any other conventionally produced plants. In essence this approach is destined to help solve the many challenges facing the passion fruit growers. This is the preferred approach; thus from laboratory level to farm level, or from basic to applied sciences. This book should be useful to university students, extension agents, researchers and growers as a handy reference in passion fruit micropropagation, management and production

Book Protocols for Micropropagation of Woody Trees and Fruits

Download or read book Protocols for Micropropagation of Woody Trees and Fruits written by S.Mohan Jain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-18 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micropropagation has become a reliable and routine approach for large-scale rapid plant multiplication, which is based on plant cell, tissue and organ culture on well defined tissue culture media under aseptic conditions. A lot of research efforts are being made to develop and refine micropropagation methods and culture media for large-scale plant multiplication of several number of plant species. However, many forest and fruit tree species still remain recalcitrant to in vitro culture and require highly specific culture conditions for plant growth and development. The recent challenges on plant cell cycle regulation and the presented potential molecular mechanisms of recalcitrance are providing excellent background for understanding on totipotency and what is more development of micropropagation protocols. For large-scale in vitro plant production the important attributes are the quality, cost effectiveness, maintenance of genetic fidelity, and long-term storage. The need for appropriate in vitro plant regeneration methods for woody plants, including both forest and fruit trees, is still overwhelming in order to overcome problems facing micropropagation such as somaclonal variation, recalcitrant rooting, hyperhydricity, polyphenols, loss of material during hardening and quality of plant material. Moreover, micropropagation may be utilized, in basic research, in production of virus-free planting material, cryopreservation of endangered and elite woody species, applications in tree breeding and reforestation.
