Download or read book Love Must Confront written by Bishop D. A. Davis and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2023-05-19 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does it seem easier to have a negative influence than a positive one? To positively influence anyone, especially your spouse or significant other, you must be sensitive to their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Therefore, when couples disagree, one, if not both, desires to be bigger than the other, emphasizing their will. They remain factually correct, believing their viewpoint is the correct one. However, two rights never make a marriage or relationship work; one must mature and apologize. This book is about the difficulties facing relationships and marriages, but on a more profound level; it is about male or female leadership. Every leader establishes a rhythm and cadence which forces them to advance the relationship or marriage. Summarily, are you the leader within your relationship or union who makes excellent decisions but lacks the influence necessary to inspire change? Or are you the leader who makes poor decisions, but your leverage (Influence) creates opportunities for hidden areas of your relationship or marriage to flourish? Bishop D. A. Davis graduated from Alabama A & M University with an Undergraduate degree and the Criswell College with a Master of Divinity degree. He serves as senior pastor of Spirit Fellowship Church in Desoto, TX. He and Lorita host a national prayer line; conduct marital and relational seminars while coaching couples on how to build stronger relationships and marriages. They are known as ‘relationship strategists’ due to the revelation insight, spiritual wisdom, and favor that God has placed upon their lives. They have been married for thirty-seven years and have three children and six grandchildren. When they are not ministering, D. A. and Lorita enjoy spending time with their family and loved ones while enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.

Each one of the characters: Mike, Bella, Scott and their families and friends are carried through the beautiful adventure of life where, through courage and perseverance, they can achieve amazing things, learning how to navigate their lives with the Lord. Mike, an amazing young man with a good career, decides to let go of the past and broken relationships and embarks on a new path of getting closer to the Lord. He is challenged by meeting Bella, a beautiful young lady that opens new doors for his heart and brings friendship and love in his life. A door of connecting with his father's side of the family is opened by the Lord for Mike and he is learning to let go of the past and move forward by forgiving his father and brother, Scott. As the Lord works in all areas of his heart and life, Mike acts upon the desires of his heart and asks Bella for a date. In Chapter 11 - Mike expresses his heart: "My life since I was walking with the Lord was different and slowly I was learning to walk on the new path. I was learning to pray and ask and how to listen and follow the Lord. I was developing a relationship with my loving Father. A relationship of trust and surrender it all and take a step at the time. This was a bit hard for me listening but I was doing a pretty good job. Listening and following the Spirit no matter what, was brilliant. It was good on one hand, but on the other hand I felt stretched in every area of my heart, mind and soul. I felt challenged and I felt on an adventure and felt carried through things I never imagined I would be able to do." Mike learns to let the Lord lead him in the journey of restoration and connecting with his father and especial his brother Scott. The circumstances bring Mike near his brother, as being in hospital and going through ups and downs and being supported by Bella and his mother, Mike learns to trust and learn and wait upon the Lord. After rejecting his brother numerous times and having no interest in a family reunion, Scott's heart is overflown with grace and a new door is open for a new beginning: brothers for life!

Download or read book Reading the Middle Generation Anew written by Eric Haralson and published by University of Iowa Press. This book was released on 2006-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten original essays by advanced scholars and well-published poets address the middle generation of American poets, including the familiar---Robert Lowell, Elizabeth Bishop, Randall Jarrell, and John Berryman---and various important contemporaries: Delmore Schwartz, Theodore Roethke, Robert Hayden, and Lorine Niedecker. This was a famously troubled cohort of writers, for reasons both personal and cultural, and collectively their poems give us powerful, moving insights into American social life in the transforming decades of the 1940s through the 1960s.In addition to having worked during the broad middle of the last century, these poets constitute the center of twentieth-century American poetry in the larger sense, refuting invidious connotations of “middle” as coming after the great moderns and being superseded by a proliferating postmodern experimentation. This middle generation mediates the so-called American century and its prodigious body of poetry, even as it complicates historical and aesthetic categorizations.Taking diverse formal and thematic angles on these poets---biographical-historical, deconstructionist, and more formalist accounts---this book re-examines their between-ness and ambivalence: their various positionings and repositionings in aesthetic, political, and personal matters. The essays study the interplay between these writers and such shifting formations as religious discourse, consumerism, militarism and war, the ideology of America as “nature's nation,” and U.S. race relations and ethnic conflicts. Reading the Middle Generation Anew also shows the legacy of the middle generation, the ways in which their lives and writings continue to be a shaping force in American poetry. This fresh and invigorating collection will be of great interest to literary scholars and poets.

Download or read book Atonement at Ground Zero written by Michael McNichols and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-05-18 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential part of Christian orthodoxy is the belief that Jesus died at a particular point in human history. But it is not that Jesus died that has caused Christians to grapple with their understanding of faith; it is why he died that creates the struggle. For centuries Christian thinkers have wrestled with the concept of the atonement. How the death of Jesus would result in the reconciling of the world to God is no simple puzzle. Yet, this complex topic is often viewed through certain doctrinal filters that reduce the richness of the atonement into single concrete, culturally based images. The New Testament, however, offers multiple metaphors in describing the atoning work of God in Christ. Returning to the stories of the earliest witnesses to Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and ascension--the ground zero of our faith--offers the opportunity to suspend, if only briefly, our doctrinal preferences and step into the shoes of those who saw Jesus die and later return to them as their resurrected Lord. In doing so, we open the possibility of seeing the atonement with fresh eyes, recognizing the broad reach of God's love and learning to communicate that love in new ways.
