Book excerpt: Passing Through is a memoir from my earliest memories until the present day. I describes how I feel about my adoption, the people who adopted me and my extended family. There are stories and anecdotes about my education, military experience, my career in corporate finance and accounting and my life. Writing this has helped me come to terms with my adoption and make sense out of my life. My goals are that persons who have been adopted will find my stories useful and that corporate finance professionals will enjoy reading some of my deal stories, and that veterans will enjoy my war stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is romantic, erotic love. There is game-playing, uncommitted love. There is obsessive, possessive love, and there is friendship-based love. There is pragmatic, practical love, and there is gentle, caring, unconditional love. Where does self-love fit in? Just Passing Thru is a tale of a self-absorbed and wealthy ladies’ man and an emotionally immature, but brilliant and successful corporate consultant who crash into one another in a passionate attraction that intertwines them, yet confuses them. Belinda and Anton are caught in negative and positive powerful pulls that thrust them onto the same path and then forcibly pull them apart again and again as they just pass through different types of love that could lead them down the path to self-actualization or down the path to self-destruction. Just Passing Thru is an account of the romance, confusion and inevitable growth that can result when alcoholism and co-dependency get mixed up with self-empowerment and intelligence as the driving and conflicting forces. Who has the most to lose? Who has the most to gain? The church girl or the party boy? Belinda wants to gain true love. Will she find it with Anton? A good partner will ride with you until hell freezes over and even a little while on the ice. But when will enough be more than enough?

Download or read book The T ang Code Volume II written by and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second and final volume of the annotated translation of a seminal Chinese legal text. The T'ang Code, written in 653 A.D., is the most important legal text in East Asian history. Not only is it China's earliest law code to survive in its entirety, influencing all subsequent Chinese law, but it has also served as a model for codes of law in other East Asian countries, including Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. This is the only translation of the T'ang code into a Western language. The first volume of the Code, published in translation in 1979, specifies the basic principles of T'ang law and explains the structural standards for applying these principles. Volume II describes acts that are punishable by law and enumerates their punishments. For contemporary readers, the T'ang Code is more than simply a legal document. Studying the 445 "specific articles" sheds considerable light on Chinese culture. The portrait that emerges has surprising resonances in present-day Chinese society--its emphasis on the preservation of the family and the interrelatedness of authority and responsibility, for example. As Western relations with the countries of East Asia continue to expand today, it is increasingly important that we understand the complexities of a legal system that has evolved over more than fifteen centuries. The availability of the complete T'ang Code in English is a significant contribution to this understanding. Originally published in 1997. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Download or read book The Crimes of Wildlife Trafficking written by Ragnhild Aslaug Sollund and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines trade and trafficking in endangered animal species and how the trade increasingly puts large numbers of nonhuman species at risk. Focusing on illegal trafficking, the book also discusses the harmful aspects of the trade and trafficking which is taking place in concordance with laws and regulations. Drawing on the findings of empirical research from Norway and Colombia, the study discusses how this global, transnational trend is addressed, and features of the trade and the ways in which it is controlled in the two case study locations. It also explores the motives driving the trade, and the consequences in terms of animal abuse and environmental harm. The book discusses whether internationally agreed measures, such as international conventions, actually help prevent the trade. Possible ways to address the harms of wildlife trade are considered, including a total ban. The work draws on a green criminology and eco feminist theoretical framework to provide a broad perspective on concepts such as harm, animal rights, species justice and speciesism.
