Book Transfer Passenger Needs at Airports

Download or read book Transfer Passenger Needs at Airports written by Marie-Claire Brillembourg and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis analyzes the needs of particular users of airport: transfer passengers. The object of this work has been to produce a set of design guidelines for terminals. these guidelines are framed upon a user-need survey conducted at Boston/Logan International Airport. The investigation has been organized around three important aspects: 1) how present airport terminal environments affect human behavior; 2) what are the physical characteristics and consequences of terminal design on transfer passengers; 3) how can a broader approach to the design of terminals with passengers in mind be applied. Current terminal design solutions have been "satisfactory" in terms of offering alternations for incoming and departing passengers. Very few terminals though, are prepared to cope with an increasing number of transfer passengers. This study clarifies passengers' characteristics and highlights those issues important for those who need to changed airplanes at an airport. These issues are: time involved in the transfer, means of arriving to the departing airline and the impact of the environment on the waiting passenger. the design guidelines presented as the conclusion of this study are an attempt to accommodate a set of behavioral variables to a system of physical variables. This environmental design approach is a continuing effort to include the user into the programming and design of projects.

Book Integrating Passenger Ferry Service with Mass Transit

Download or read book Integrating Passenger Ferry Service with Mass Transit written by Timothy D. Payne and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2013 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this synthesis was to document the state of the practice of integration between land- and water-based transit systems and to explore successful aspects of seamless integration. The report assembles and presents information in numerous locations around the United States, supplemented with examples from Canada, Australia, and Bermuda. To accomplish this effort a literature review was undertaken that received limited results. However, a selected survey of 46 respondents out of 57 transit and ferry agencies, as well as agencies and companies in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, including Bermuda, received an 80% response rate. The respondents represent a geographically representative sample--varying in size and age of system, degree of coordination between ferry and transit, and type of community served. The synthesis summarizes findings from 60 different ferry-to-land-based transit interfaces. Case examples of key factors of land- and water-based integration are offered for Long Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts; TransLink's SeaBus in Vancouver, British Columbia; New York Waterway's Hoboken Terminal; and Washington State Ferries and Kitsap Transit in Bremerton, Washington. Tim Payne, Danielle Rose, and Hazel Scher, Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, Inc., Seattle, Washington, collected and synthesized the information and wrote the report, under the guidance of a panel of experts in the subject area. The members of the topic panel are acknowledged on the preceding page. This synthesis is an immediately useful document that records the practices that were acceptable within the limitations of the knowledge available at the time of its preparation. As progress in research and practice continues, new knowledge will be added to that now at hand"--Preface.

Book Intermodal Transportation

Download or read book Intermodal Transportation written by Katherine Siggerud (au) and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the number of airplane passengers using U.S. airports expected to grow to 1 billion by the year 2015, ground access to U.S. airports has become an important factor in the development of our nation's transport. networks. Increases in the number of passengers traveling to & from airports will place greater strains on our nation's airport access roads & airport capacity, which can have a number of negative economic & social effects. This report addresses the development of intermodal capabilities at U.S. airports, incl.: (1) the roles of different levels of gov't. & the private sector; (2) the extent to which such facilities have been developed; (3) benefits, costs, & barriers to such development; & (4) strategies to improve these capabilities. Book National Airspace System longterm capacity planning needed despite recent reduction in flight delays

Download or read book National Airspace System longterm capacity planning needed despite recent reduction in flight delays written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, airline flight delays have been among the most vexing problems in the national transportation system. They reached unprecedented levels in 2000, when one flight in four was delayed. Although bad weather has historically been the main cause of delays, a growing reason has been the inability of the nations air transport system to efficiently absorb all of the aircraft trying to use limited airspace or trying to take off or land at busy airports. Recent events most notably the terrorist attacks on buildings in New York City and Washington, D.C., using hijacked airliners, and the economic slowdown that preceded these attacks have changed the extent of the delay problem, at least for the short term. With many airlines cutting their flights by 20 percent or more, the air transport system is having less difficulty absorbing the volume of flights. Whether the volume of flights will continue at these lowered levels is unknown. However, it is likely that a more robust economy and less public apprehension about flying will lead to renewed demands on the air transport system. If so, concerns about delays and the actions being taken to address them may once again command national attention.

Book Airport Ground Access Mode Choice Models

Download or read book Airport Ground Access Mode Choice Models written by Geoffrey David Gosling and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2008 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis extends previous efforts to document the state of practice for airport ground access mode choice models. It examines the characteristics of existing models and discusses the issues involved in the development and use of such models to improve the understanding and acceptance of their role in airport planning and management. Information presented in this report may be of interest to a range of airport managers, airport and regional transportation planners, consultants and transportation modeling specialists, and researchers interested in issues involving airport ground access mode choice. For this synthesis, a comprehensive review of the relevant literature was undertaken. To document the extent of the recent use of airport ground access mode choice models and to identify sources of technical documentation on existing models, this literature review was supplemented by a survey of airport authorities, metropolitan planning organizations, consulting firms and research organizations, and other government agencies and industry organizations. Follow-up communications by telephone and e-mail were made where necessary.
