Founded in 1874 by a small group of transplanted Indianans, Pasadena began as an agricultural center. After completion of the Santa Fe Railway's transcontinental link via Pasadena, the boom of the 1880s brought a rise in property values, and with it grandiose real estate and transportation schemes.
