Download or read book The Art of Gathering written by Priya Parker and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-04-14 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hosts of all kinds, this is a must-read!" --Chris Anderson, owner and curator of TED From the host of the New York Times podcast Together Apart, an exciting new approach to how we gather that will transform the ways we spend our time together—at home, at work, in our communities, and beyond. In The Art of Gathering, Priya Parker argues that the gatherings in our lives are lackluster and unproductive--which they don't have to be. We rely too much on routine and the conventions of gatherings when we should focus on distinctiveness and the people involved. At a time when coming together is more important than ever, Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play. Drawing on her expertise as a facilitator of high-powered gatherings around the world, Parker takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn't, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings--conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp--and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience. The result is a book that's both journey and guide, full of exciting ideas with real-world applications. The Art of Gathering will forever alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue--and how you host and attend them.
Download or read book Life of the Party written by Daniel Stombaugh and published by Lakeview Publications. This book was released on 2021-11-03 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pain never just creeps into a person’s life. Pain never just stops by for a front porch conversation, never knocks on your door or calls to see if it’s a good time. Pain always throws a party, and this party is guaranteed to shock you. Pain jumps out from behind the couch and shouts, “SURPRISE!!!!” Pain is the ultimate loose cannon—loud, flamboyant, and obnoxious. This is why we are so surprised when we walk through the doorway of the day-to-day to find this party planner in our home, with a crowd of unique and powerful guests. What you are about to read is a concept that God has allowed pain to teach me. Pain is a part of life—and, regardless of the reasons it shows up, I believe we can use it to discover purpose. There are several guests who will always show up at a pain party, and our ability to move through it comes down to our responses to the guests we choose to interact with. This is the story of Joanna, a conversation that took place between us, and ultimately the healing that was discovered through perspective. My prayer is that you will also experience this healing perspective and forever see pain through the lens that heals.

In A Psalm for the Wild-Built, bestselling Becky Chambers's delightful new Monk and Robot series, gives us hope for the future. It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how. They're going to need to ask it a lot. Becky Chambers's new series asks: in a world where people have what they want, does having more matter? At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Download or read book International Commercial Arbitration and Mediation in UNCITRAL Model Law Jurisdictions written by Peter Binder and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 930 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Commercial Arbitration and Mediation in UNCITRAL Model Law Jurisdictions Fourth Edition Dr Peter Binder This new edition of a classic text is so extensively revised and updated as to constitute a new book. It does, however, retain the tried and tested article-by-article structure of the previous three editions: it covers all the information needed when contemplating cross-border arbitration or mediation and enables a practitioner to ascertain what to expect in each jurisdiction. It remains the only book that provides a complete overview of all the adopting jurisdictions (now 111) at one glance, with a description of the legislation in these jurisdictions counterbalanced by court rulings to demonstrate how matters are dealt with in everyday practice. The popular adoption chart matrix unique to this book has been further enhanced and updated. Featuring the first full commentary on the newly released 2018 UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Mediation (including its revolutionary regime for the enforcement of settlement agreements reached by means of mediation) and an update of all case law on UNCITRAL texts (CLOUT) to date, the fourth edition provides explicit expert guidance on such matters as the following: overview of each jurisdiction that has enacted the Model Laws; provisions in a particular national Model Law enactment to be watched out for; how a particular issue dealt with in a Model Law enacting jurisdiction has been handled by local courts; and which jurisdictions can be safely recommended in arbitration or mediation clauses in international commercial agreements. Both of the Model Laws are reproduced in full in an appendix. With an examination of each provision’s legislative history as well as national and subnational adoptions of the Model Laws, this work provides a complete picture of global practice in international arbitration and mediation as it exists today, taking full account of emerging trends in the enactment process and in case law. Business people who agree to arbitrate in one of the 111 recognized Model Law jurisdictions can rely on a secure minimum of rights in the arbitral proceedings and run less risk of being surprised by unwelcome peculiarities of local law. International litigation lawyers, arbitrators, and in-house lawyers who are considering arbitrating or mediating in one of the 111 jurisdictions analysed, academics in international ADR, and national government officials dealing with cross-border trade will benefit enormously from this new edition.

Download or read book Theatre with a Purpose written by Don Watson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-28 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study of British amateur theatre in the inter-war period examines five different but interwoven examples of the belief, common in theatrical and educational circles at the time, that amateur drama had a purpose beyond recreation. Amateur theatre was at the height of its popularity as a cultural practice between the wars, so that by 1939 more British people had practical experience of putting on plays than at any time before or since. Providing an original account of the use of drama in adult education projects in deprived areas, and of amateur theatre in government-funded centres for the unemployed in the 1930s, it discusses repertoires, participation by working- class people and pioneering techniques of play-making. Amateur drama festivals and competitions were intended to raise standards and educate audiences. This book assesses their effect on play-making, and the use of innovative one-act plays to express contentious material, as well as looking at the Left Book Club Theatre Guild as an attempt to align the amateur theatre movement with anti-fascist and anti-war movements. A chapter on the Second World War rectifies the neglect of amateur theatre in war-time cultural studies, arguing that it was present and important in every aspect of war-time life. Don Watson builds on current scholarship and makes use of archival sources, local newspapers, unpublished scripts and the records of organizations not usually associated with the theatre. His work explores the range and diversity of amateur drama between the wars and the contributions it made to British theatre.

This book was released on 2004-10-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigates the issues of the origin and purpose of the Gospel of Mark. The author argues that Mark’s Gospel was written in Galilee some time after the Jewish Revolt in 70 AD for a Christian audience that was living under the threat of persecution. The first part of the book examines the situation of Mark’s intended readers, and the nature of and reasons for their persecution. The second part establishes in what way the Gospel addresses the situation of Mark’s original readers.
