Download or read book Open and Relational Theology written by Thomas Jay Oord and published by Sacrasage Press. This book was released on 2021-07 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most theologies suck. They're too technical or they describe a God nobody understands. Sometimes the God portrayed sounds like a controlling boyfriend or absentee parent. Rather than woo or persuade, most theology books clobber readers into submission. This book is different. Thomas Jay Oord presents a theology that makes sense. It fits the way we live our lives and matches our deepest intuitions. To the surprise of some, it harmonizes with sacred scripture... at least the good parts. And it promotes a genuinely loving God. Open and relational theology is controversial. Oord and others have lost their jobs because they embrace it. Others have been booted from religious communities or shunned by families and friends. It's that radical! This way of thinking is life-changing - for good - for so many. This theology doesn't suck. People around the world are turning to open and relational theology. It answers our biggest questions about good and evil, purpose and freedom, love and science. Download or read book Jews and Christians Rivals Or Partners for the Kingdom of God written by Didier Pollefeyt and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, the Christian churches and Christian theology have sought to forge their own identity by challenging the identity of Judaism. Christians often inquired whether Israel was still the people of God, whether the church had replaced Israel. An affirmative answer to the latter inquiry is often described as the "theology of substitution": the church has taken Israel's place. The implication is that there is no longer any place for Israel in God's plan of salvation. The history of Christian anti-Judaism is dramatic proof of the violent potential that is implicit in this Christian theology of substitution. After Auschwitz, the search for an alternative to this theology, a search which touches the heart of Christianity, has become a necessity. The central question of this book is whether - and how - Christianity can maintain its identity if it no longer understands itself as a substitute for Judaism. Didier Pollefeyt shows how the theme of substitution constitutes the basic theological problem for Christians in the encounter with Judaism. Bertold Klappert develops an alternative for the Christian theology of substitution by drawing on the work of Protestant theologians. Leon Klenicki offers a Jewish perspective, as he seeks to develop a theory of dialogical encounter for Jews and Christians. Terrence Merrigan reflects on the way in which the Christian rediscovery of Judaism can be significant in the light of the postmodern challenge of religious pluralism. Rik Hoet analyzes biblical metaphors which might serve as an alternative for the Christian theology of substitution.
Download or read book Partners in Healing written by Frank Ramirez and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healing is a gift and not a right. The prayer of faith is powerful, but the most faithful prayer of power was that of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, on the eve of his great ordeal: "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). Anointing cannot guarantee healing. If it could it would border on magic, and would imply that we in some way control God's actions. God is in control of history and healing. It is God who invites us to join into a community of prayer through the ordinance of anointing. (excerpt from Partners In Healing) Though there are countless instances of anointing in the Bible, it is seldom practiced in many Christian traditions today. But this essential rite reminds us that God is the true source of restoration and healing -- and that he is at work in all aspects of our lives. Anointing affirms and symbolizes our partnership with God, and it invites God to be part of the healing process for anyone who is sick physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Partners In Healing is a complete guide with all the resources you need to revive this ancient practice as part of a comprehensive ministry of healing. In addition to exploring the biblical and historical background for anointing, you'll find a wealth of practical, easy-to-use material. There's an extensive range of services and prayers, as well as sermons you can use to introduce this ministry to congregations unfamiliar with it. Discussion questions and activities are also included, making this an excellent resource for small group study. Frank Ramirez is an author and pastor in the Church of the Brethren who has written numerous books, articles, and short stories. A graduate of the University of LaVerne and Bethany Theological Seminary, Ramirez has served congregations in Indiana and California, and is currently pastor at Everett Church of the Brethren in Everett, Pennsylvania. His other CSS titles include He Took A Towel, Gabriel's Horn, The Christmas Star, Coming Home, A Call To Worship, and Lectionary Worship Aids.

The first two of these works are now in print and have attracted considerable interest in scholarly circles. Download or read book Towards a Theology of Relationship written by Michael Berra and published by James Clarke & Company. This book was released on 2024-01-25 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the theme of relationship receiving renewed attention in a variety of areas, theological expressions of the subject are also being brought back into the spotlight. Although the concept of a personal relationship with God is a common Christian expression, it is often poorly defined. Here, Michael Berra draws on the Swiss theologian Emil Brunner to redefine and rehabilitate the analogy of relationship. Basing his study primarily on Brunner's seminal work Truth as Encounter, Berra proposes that relationship ought to be the central motif for the whole of theology. He investigates the theme in light of modern relationship science, arguing that God-human interaction categorically meets the definition of a relationship, and that it is existentially intended to be intimate. Scholars and church leaders will find in Berra's approach a refreshing voice in this dynamic field.
