Book Particulate Emissions and Control in Fluidized bed Combustion

Download or read book Particulate Emissions and Control in Fluidized bed Combustion written by A. Y. Ranadive and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model was developed to describe the physical characteristics of the particulates emitted from fluidized-bed combustion (FBC) systems and to evaluate data on FBC particulate control systems. The model, which describes the particulate emissions profile from FBC, considers the attrition of the bed materials and the recycling of the elutriated fines in addition to other FBC phenomena. For a given combustor design and set of operating conditions, the particle profile program projects the mass rate and size distribution of the solids in the bed draw-off and carry-over streams, as well as those emitted from particle removal devices of any given configuration. Examples of particulate emission and control are given for both atmospheric-pressure and pressurized FBC systems. The effect of calcium-to-sulfur ratio, rate of sorbent attrition, superficial gas velocity, and recycle cyclone efficiency was examined by using the model. A manual for the particle profiles program comprising a quick-reference user's section, as well as a more detailed descriptive section, is provided in the full report.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressurized fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) is one of the newest of the coal-based generation technologies available commercially. This authoritative volume contains an excellent balance of the theoretical and practical aspects of PFBC technology, including economics, the fundamental theory of plant design and sorbent characterization, using the results obtained from a wide range of pilot-scale and full-scale demonstration units

Book Evaluation of a Pressurized fluidized Bed Combustion PFBC Combined Cycle Power Plant Conceptual Design

Download or read book Evaluation of a Pressurized fluidized Bed Combustion PFBC Combined Cycle Power Plant Conceptual Design written by Donald A. Huber and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conclusions drawn from the studies performed during this reporting period are as follows: The PFB/AFB combined cycle commercial plant investigated will have a capital cost of $567/kw and a cost of electricity of 28.47 mils/kw-hr based on mid-1977 costs. Based on a trade-off study performed during this reporting period, it is concluded that the use of field assembled PFB combustors will be more economical than using shop assembled and rail-shipped units. Due to the reduced size of shop assembled combustors, the number of units used must be increased by a factor of five. A technical and economic comparison of various systems proposed for removal of PFB particulates from the gas entering the gas turbine indicates that two Aerodyne two-stage cyclones in series may be more appropriate for this application than systems based on either Ducon's Granular Bed Filter or Donaldson's Tan-Jet cyclones. However, further development effort is required to confirm the performance of these units and to establish the maximum permissible loading entering a gas turbine. With reasonable care in operations and the use of commercially available control methods, fugitive dust emissions from coal and sorbent handling and storage systems and solid waste disposal systems can be minimized. Water borne pollutants from coal pile runoff and leachates from waste disposal areas require additional study and special handling to insure that ground water contamination does not occur.

Book Fluidized Bed Technologies for Near Zero Emission Combustion and Gasification

Download or read book Fluidized Bed Technologies for Near Zero Emission Combustion and Gasification written by Fabrizio Scala and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 1091 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidized bed (FB) combustion and gasification are advanced techniques for fuel flexible, high efficiency and low emission conversion. Fuels are combusted or gasified as a fluidized bed suspended by jets with sorbents that remove harmful emissions such as SOx. CO2 capture can also be incorporated. Fluidized bed technologies for near-zero emission combustion and gasification provides an overview of established FB technologies while also detailing recent developments in the field. Part one, an introductory section, reviews fluidization science and FB technologies and includes chapters on particle characterization and behaviour, properties of stationary and circulating fluidized beds, heat and mass transfer and attrition in FB combustion and gasification systems. Part two expands on this introduction to explore the fundamentals of FB combustion and gasification including the conversion of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels, pollutant emission and reactor design and scale up. Part three highlights recent advances in a variety of FB combustion and gasification technologies before part four moves on to focus on emerging CO2 capture technologies. Finally, part five explores other applications of FB technology including (FB) petroleum refining and chemical production. Fluidized bed technologies for near-zero emission combustion and gasification is a technical resource for power plant operators, industrial engineers working with fluidized bed combustion and gasification systems and researchers, scientists and academics in the field. Examines the fundamentals of fluidized bed (FB) technologies, including the conversion of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels Explores recent advances in a variety of technologies such as pressurized FB combustion, and the measurement, monitoring and control of FB combustion and gasification Discusses emerging technologies and examines applications of FB in other processes

Book Particulate Control Device PCD Testing at the Power Systems Development Facility Wilsonville Alabama

Download or read book Particulate Control Device PCD Testing at the Power Systems Development Facility Wilsonville Alabama written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) objectives overseen by the Morgantown Energy Technology Center (METC) is to test systems and components for advanced coal-based power generation systems, including integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC), pressurized fluidized-bed combustion (PFBC), and integrated gasification/fuel cell (IGFC) systems. Stringent particulate requirements for fuel gas for both combustion turbines and fuel cells that are integral to these systems. Particulates erode and chemically attack the blade surfaces in turbines, and cause blinding of the electrodes in fuel cells. Filtration of the hot, high-pressure, gasified coal is required to protect these units. Filtration can be accomplished by first cooling the gas, but the system efficiency is reduced. High-temperature, high-pressure, particulate control devices (PCDs) need to be developed to achieve high efficiency and to extend the lifetime of downstream components to acceptable levels. Demonstration of practical high-temperature PCDs is crucial to the evolution of advanced, high-efficiency, coal-based power generation systems. The intent at the Power Systems Development Facility (PSDF) is to establish a flexible test facility that can be used to (1) develop advanced power system components, such as high-temperature, high-pressure PCDs; (2) evaluate advanced power system configurations and (3) assess the integration and control issues of these advanced power systems.
