Book Particle Size Measurements

Download or read book Particle Size Measurements written by Henk G. Merkus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-01-07 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the practical aspects of particle size measurement: a major difference with existing books, which have a more theoretical approach. Of course, the emphasis still lies on the measurement techniques. For optimum application, their theoretical background is accompanied by quantitative quality aspects, limitations and problem identification. In addition the book covers the phenomena of sampling and dispersion of powders, either of which may be dominant in the overall analysis error. Moreover, there are chapters on the general aspects of quality for particle size analysis, quality management, reference materials and written standards, in- and on-line measurement, definitions and multilingual terminology, and on the statistics required for adequate interpretation of results. Importantly, a relation is made to product performance, both during processing as well as in final application. In view of its set-up, this book is well suited to support particle size measurement courses.

Download or read book Particle Characterization Light Scattering Methods written by Renliang Xu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle characterization is an important component in product research and development, manufacture, and quality control of particulate materials and an important tool in the frontier of sciences, such as in biotechnology and nanotechnology. This book systematically describes one major branch of modern particle characterization technology - the light scattering methods. This is the first monograph in particle science and technology covering the principles, instrumentation, data interpretation, applications, and latest experimental development in laser diffraction, optical particle counting, photon correlation spectroscopy, and electrophoretic light scattering. In addition, a summary of all major particle sizing and other characterization methods, basic statistics and sample preparation techniques used in particle characterization, as well as almost 500 latest references are provided. The book is a must for industrial users of light scattering techniques characterizing a variety of particulate systems and for undergraduate or graduate students who want to learn how to use light scattering to study particular materials, in chemical engineering, material sciences, physical chemistry and other related fields.

Book Particle Size Analysis

Download or read book Particle Size Analysis written by I. Claus Bernhardt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: teacher Professor Ernst-Joachim Ivers to whom I still owe many insights 20 years after the end of his working life. This English edition is not an unedited translation of the German edition of 1990. The text has been substantially revised in some chapters, taking into account the literature published in the mean time. I wish to thank Dr.-Ing. H. Finken, Freiberg, who has prepared the translation from German into English with deep scientific understanding and in close contact with the author. I also wish to express my gratitude to Chapman & Hall for their support to this project without which the English edition could not have been published. Dr.-Ing. habil. C. Bernhardt Freiberg 1 Position, tasks and structure of particle size analysis Today the concept of particle size analysis is that of a special field of particle measurement technology, which in turn is part of particulate technology. This classification has developed over the last 20 years; it is the result of a scientific integration process taking place in many industrialized countries of the world. In recent years, the meaning and mutual connection of the related concepts as well as the tasks of the scientific disciplines designated by them have been the subject of intensive discussion which, however, has not led to a generally accepted terminology.

Book Particle Size Distribution in Hygroscopic Aerosols

Download or read book Particle Size Distribution in Hygroscopic Aerosols written by George Richard Gillespie and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selection and design of aerosol removal equipment depend largely on knowledge of the size of the particle. In this work the distribution of particle sizes of aerosols of sulfuric, phosphoric, hydrochloric, hydrobromic, chlorosulfonic, and nitric acids was measured by means of a four-stage, high velocity jet impactor. The effect of the relative humidity of the air system, the addition of foreign nuclei, the concentration of the aerosol particles and time on the size distribution was studied.

Book Chemical Water and Wastewater Treatment VI

Download or read book Chemical Water and Wastewater Treatment VI written by Hermann H. Hahn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the ninth Gothenburg Symposium time design and operation engineers as well as supervising and funding administrators in chemical water and waste water treatment, have come together to exchange ideas, experiences and personal views on issues of water and waste water management. While the main thrust of past symposia was in the description of the technological know-how of existing chemical unit-operations in water technology this ninth symposium focuses in addition on aspects of overall energy and mass flux analyses, the strive for more and more sustainable solutions (not only in technological turns) and public private partnership in all areas of water management. As the symposium in its effort to address also different geographical areas and therefore different water problems moved to Istanbul in Turkey a special effort was made in developing a platform for industrial water management.

Book Predictive Process Control of Crowded Particulate Suspensions

Download or read book Predictive Process Control of Crowded Particulate Suspensions written by James E. Funk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 791 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7 In the early chapters of the book of Proverbs there is a strong emphasis on three words: knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Perhaps we can apply these words to our philosophy behind the technology of Predictive Process Control. Knowledge is the accumulation of information provided by education as we begin to store the data in our brains that should prepare us for the challenges of the manufacturing environment. It applies to every level and every opportunity of education, formal and informal. This is simply to Know, without any requirement except a good memory, and is the basis for the following two thoughts. Understanding is the assimilation of knowledge, or the thinking process, as we begin to arrange and rearrange the data we Know for quick recall as it may be needed. This also applies to every level and opportunity of education. It is Know-Why based upon what we Know, and it requires some scepticism of oversimplified answers and a hunger for mental consistency. Wisdom is the application of both knowledge and understanding in real life enterprises. As we apply both our knowledge and understanding in those situations, all three are further enhanced by each progressive experience. This is that wonderful Know-How - to apply our education based upon Know-why, which was based upon Knowledge - which provides the confidence we need to advance in all phases of performance.

Download or read book Particle Size Analysis written by N. Stanley-Wood and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1992 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle Size Analysis reviews the development of particle characterization over the past 25 years and also speculates on its future. Interest in the subject has increased enormously over the years and this book highlights the changes and advances made within the field. This book is comprehensive in its coverage of particle size analysis and includes contributions on such characterization techniques as microscopy using fractal analysis, light diffraction, light scattering with the phase doppler technique, light observation, and photon correlation spectroscopy. A number of chapters address the interest in on-line in-stream particle size analysis and illustrate the progress being made in achieving this long sought after ideal of in-situ in-process particle characterization. Applications to other technological fields are detailed by chapters covering biological systems and the pharmaceutical industry. The subject of surface area determination is considered with particular emphasis on the measurements on porosity of powders, the characterization and comparability of reference materials, and the need for standards. Particle Size Analysis should provide stimulating reading for technologists, scientists, and engineers involved in particle characterization and powder technology worldwide.
