Book Particle Image Velocimetry Measurements of IC Engine Valve Flows

Download or read book Particle Image Velocimetry Measurements of IC Engine Valve Flows written by Janghee Lee and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The velocity profile around the intake valve of an internal combustion engine was experimentally investigated by means of particle image velocimetry. A simulated engine setup was constructed using a diesel engine cylinder head and an acrylic cylinder with glass optical windows. The flow was generated by an axial fan on a standard flow bench. The instantaneous two dimensional velocity field was measured in a plane perpendicular to the cylinder head near one of the intake valves. Measurements were taken with a motor driven cam actuating the two intake valves. Measurements were made for several values of cam rotation rate and at several values of cam angle (valve lift). The double exposed film was interrogated by an optical image analysis method, and velocity vectors were obtained at 0.5 mun intervals in the flow field. The results show the expected large shear flows recognizable vortices in the flow field. (Author).

Book Particle Image Velocimetry

Download or read book Particle Image Velocimetry written by Markus Raffel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-09 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This immensely practical guide to PIV provides a condensed, yet exhaustive guide to most of the information needed for experiments employing the technique. This second edition has updated chapters on the principles and extra information on microscopic, high-speed and three component measurements as well as a description of advanced evaluation techniques. What’s more, the huge increase in the range of possible applications has been taken into account as the chapter describing these applications of the PIV technique has been expanded.

  • Author : Ronald J. Adrian
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 0521440084
  • Pages : 585 pages

Download or read book Particle Image Velocimetry written by Ronald J. Adrian and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle image velocimetry, or PIV, refers to a class of methods used in experimental fluid mechanics to determine instantaneous fields of the vector velocity by measuring the displacements of numerous fine particles that accurately follow the motion of the fluid. Although the concept of measuring particle displacements is simple in essence, the factors that need to be addressed to design and implement PIV systems that achieve reliable, accurate, and fast measurements and to interpret the results are surprisingly numerous. The aim of this book is to analyze and explain them comprehensively.

Book Combustion Measurements

Download or read book Combustion Measurements written by Norman Chigier and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-04-01 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book begins with an introduction to the general problems of making measurements in high temperature and a presentation of chemically reacting flow systems. It describes each instrument with the various diagnostic techniques and discusses measurements that have been made in furnaces, flames, and rocket engines. The detailed measurement techniques described in this book cover a wide spectrum of applications in combustion systems, including gas turbine, rocket measurement techniques that were developed in laboratories. Information obtained on detailed temperature, velocity, particle size, and gas concentration distribution is leading to improve understanding of the chemical combustion process and to design imporvements in combustors.

Book Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Measurement Techniques

Download or read book Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Measurement Techniques written by H.-E. Albrecht and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing the first comprehensive treatment, this book covers all aspects of the laser Doppler and phase Doppler measurement techniques, including light scattering from small particles, fundamental optics, system design, signal and data processing, tracer particle generation, and applications in single and two-phase flows. The book is intended as both a reference book for more experienced users as well as an instructional book for students. It provides ample material as a basis for a lecture course on the subject and represents one of the most comprehensive treatments of the phase Doppler technique to date. The book will serve as a valuable reference book in any fluid mechanics laboratory where the laser Doppler or phase Doppler techniques are used. This work reflects the authors' long practical experience in the development of the techniques and equipment, as the many examples confirm.
