Book Medell n environment urbanism society

Download or read book Medell n environment urbanism society written by Michel Hermelin Arbaux and published by Universidad EAFIT. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent times what has become known as "the case of Medellín " has generated a growing interest in the international community. These urban transformation that Medellín has experimented have become a focus of attention and reference for experts in many fields, around the world. The book ́Medellin: Environment, Urbanism and Society ́, that now published the Center for Urban and Environmental Studies, Urbam, of EAFIT University is a testimony of the value given by our culture to the accomplishments of the city, to the idea of the public sphere and the growing relationship between the technical sphere and the political sphere, understood in the broad sense as a form of disciplinary knowledge and construction of civil society. This book brings together a knowledge of the city from multiple perspectives; knowledge that is, without any doubt, impressive for its extension and profoundity, as well as for its capacity to combine objective data with conceptual reflections about the scope and impact of the different perspectives concerning the theme of urban transformation and the different actors that have participated in such processes. The book weaves a broad net over the city, its history and development, adopting a multidisciplinary vision. I think that this will be the first step in creating a speech that might finally liberate itself from the strict disciplinary boundaries, building a trans-disciplinary perspective that can amplify the urban dimension of the city. This is the beginning of a profound and complex reflection that is, at the same time, a project of knowledge and an instrument of action and participation.

Book Extractive Sector and Civil Society

Download or read book Extractive Sector and Civil Society written by Flavia Milano and published by Inter-American Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 4% of Latin America and the Caribbean’s GDP comes from the extractive sector. This figure is equivalent to the amount generated by agriculture in the same region. An effective engagement between governments, companies, and civil society is required to propel sustainable development. With this regional diagnosis of countries rich in natural resources like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and the Dominican Republic, the IDB seeks to shed light on best practices among stakeholders of the extractive sectors. It focuses in actions of information, dialogues, consultations, collaborations, and partnerships that are driving development in the region. From the findings of the diagnosis, 3 roadmaps were drafted, to guide the stakeholders in strengthening their engagement.

Book The Handbook of Salutogenesis

Download or read book The Handbook of Salutogenesis written by Maurice B. Mittelmark and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are salutogenesis friends working in health promotion, who banded together to accomplish what none of us alone could manage. Writing this handbook has brought the editors and the chapter authors closer together, discussing and debating every detail related to this complex project, with its 57 chapters and 88 authors. Several chapters address salutogenesis in the context of Coronavirus. Also, many of the book's authors have turned attention to salutogenesis research connected to the pandemic. As this book attests, salutogenesis scholarship is thriving in several disciplinary and transdisciplinary fields. This development would induce a broad smile and a high degree of satisfaction to the field's founding theoretician, Aaron Antonovsky (1923-1994).

Book University and School Collaborations During a Pandemic

Download or read book University and School Collaborations During a Pandemic written by Fernando M. Reimers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on twenty case studies of universities worldwide, and on a survey administered to leaders in 101 universities, this open access book shows that, amidst the significant challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, universities found ways to engage with schools to support them in sustaining educational opportunity. In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach

Book Alternative Pathways to Sustainable Development Lessons from Latin America

Download or read book Alternative Pathways to Sustainable Development Lessons from Latin America written by Gilles Carbonnier and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 9th volume of International Development Policy looks at recent paradigmatic innovations and related development trajectories in Latin America, with a particular focus on the Andean region. It examines the diverse development narratives and experiences in countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru during a period of high commodity prices associated with robust growth, poverty alleviation and inequality reduction. Highlighting propositions such as buen vivir, this thematic volume questions whether competing ideologies and discourses have translated into different outcomes, be it with regard to environmental sustainability, social progress, primary commodity dependence, or the rights of indigenous peoples. This collection of articles aims to enrich our understanding of recent development debates and processes in Latin America, and what the rest of the world can learn from them. Contributors include: Adriana Erthal Abdenur, Alberto Acosta, Ana Elizabeth Bastida, Luis Bustos, Humberto Campodónico, Gilles Carbonnier, Ana Patricia Cubillo-Guevara, Fernando Eguren, Ricardo Fuentes-Nieva, Eduardo García, Javier Herrera, Antonio Luis Hidalgo-Capitán, Robert Muggah, Gianandrea Nelli Feroci, José Antonio Ocampo, Camilo Andrés Peña Galeano, Guillermo Perry, Darío Indalecio Restrepo Botero, Sergio Tezanos Vázquez, and Frédérique Weyer.

Book The Salutogenic Model of Health

Download or read book The Salutogenic Model of Health written by Maurice B. Mittelmark and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive resource that focuses on the origins of health rather than the origins of disease (pathogenesis). It traces the history and development of the Salutogenic Model, from Aaron Antonovsky's groundbreaking scholarship to the present day. The book examines the key concept of salutogenesis, Sense of Coherence (SOC) and the factors that mediate SOC and health. Bringing together leading scholars from the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), this book aims to answer the question: where has over three decades of research and scholarship brought the Salutogenic Model of Health? Chapters look at the role of culture in the development of salutogenesis and the development of SOC over the life course. A key section summarizes the research in salutogenesis in the non-English literature and a section on research resources contains information on salutogenesis bibliographies, databases, organizations and web sites.
