Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lists, one of the most archaic literary genres, stand behind many of our complex mental or rhetorical structures and they often influence the way we conceptualize the world (even if we are unaware of it). They seem plain but may conceal a complicated inner logic. They are agrammatical but may tell a story. Their basic features – selection, order, and layout – may be enough to give them enormous power: by including they exclude, by ordering they create a hierarchy, by taking on particular physical aspects they place themselves into a specific context. These and other issues are discussed in the present transdisciplinary volume collecting the best revised contributions to a workshop on lists held at the Center for Theoretical Study in Prague in November 2008. Each of the 13 articles by researchers from seven countries provides a case study on the subject of list. The fields covered include late antique, medieval and early modern history, philology, philosophy, cognitive and computer science. The contributors aim both at presenting particular cases – specific lists or list-types – and, at the same time, at addressing methodological issues: exploring the ways of researching lists in their particular disciplines, formulating relevant research themes and questions, contextualizing the subject. Since theoretical discourse on lists has not been established yet, this volume should be seen as a first step in the process, showing the variety of possible research directions on a transdisciplinary level, and raising interest in the topic, which, although it may seem a bit obscure at first, has indeed a lot to offer.

Book Automating with SIMATIC

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hans Berger
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2016-06-15
  • ISBN : 3895789437
  • Pages : 306 pages

Download or read book Automating with SIMATIC written by Hans Berger and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a complete overview of the SIMATIC automation system and the TIA Portal with the engineering tool STEP 7. "Automating with SIMATIC" addresses all those who - want to get an overview of the components of the system and their features, - wish to familiarize themselves with the topic of programmable logic controllers, or - intend to acquire basic knowledge about configuration, programming and interaction of the SIMATIC components. At first, the book introduces the hardware of SIMATIC S7-1200, S7-300, S7-400 and S7-1500, including the ET 200 peripheral modules. This is followed by describing the work with STEP 7 in the programming languages LAD, FBD, STL, SCL and S7-Graph, and offline testing with S7-PLCSIM. The next section describes the structure of the user program, which is followed by the illustration of the data communication between the controllers of the automation system as well as with the peripheral devices by use of the bus systems Profinet and Profibus. The book closes with a survey of the devices for operator control and process monitoring and their configuration software.

Book Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by M. S. Agranovich and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Vishik's Partial Differential Equations seminar held at Moscow State University was one of the world's leading seminars in PDEs for over 40 years. This book celebrates Vishik's eightieth birthday. It comprises new results and survey papers written by many renowned specialists who actively participated over the years in Vishik's seminars. Contributions include original developments and methods in PDEs and related fields, such as mathematical physics, tomography, and symplecticgeometry. Papers discuss linear and nonlinear equations, particularly linear elliptic problems in angles and general unbounded domains, linear elliptic problems with a parameter for mixed order systems, infinite-dimensional Schrodinger equations, Navier-Stokes equations, and nonlinear Maxwellequations. The book ends on a historical note with a paper about Vishik's seminar as a whole and a list of selected talks given from 1964 through 1989. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers in pure and applied mathematics and mathematical physics.

Book Probabilistic Ranking Techniques in Relational Databases

Download or read book Probabilistic Ranking Techniques in Relational Databases written by Ihab Ilyas and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ranking queries are widely used in data exploration, data analysis and decision making scenarios. While most of the currently proposed ranking techniques focus on deterministic data, several emerging applications involve data that are imprecise or uncertain. Ranking uncertain data raises new challenges in query semantics and processing, making conventional methods inapplicable. Furthermore, the interplay between ranking and uncertainty models introduces new dimensions for ordering query results that do not exist in the traditional settings. This lecture describes new formulations and processing techniques for ranking queries on uncertain data. The formulations are based on marriage of traditional ranking semantics with possible worlds semantics under widely-adopted uncertainty models. In particular, we focus on discussing the impact of tuple-level and attribute-level uncertainty on the semantics and processing techniques of ranking queries. Under the tuple-level uncertainty model, we describe new processing techniques leveraging the capabilities of relational database systems to recognize and handle data uncertainty in score-based ranking. Under the attribute-level uncertainty model, we describe new probabilistic ranking models and a set of query evaluation algorithms, including sampling-based techniques. We also discuss supporting rank join queries on uncertain data, and we show how to extend current rank join methods to handle uncertainty in scoring attributes. Table of Contents: Introduction / Uncertainty Models / Query Semantics / Methodologies / Uncertain Rank Join / Conclusion
