Book Parity And Time Reversal Violation In Compound Nuclear States And Related Topics Proceedings Of The International

Download or read book Parity And Time Reversal Violation In Compound Nuclear States And Related Topics Proceedings Of The International written by Auerbach Naftali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-11-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains the Proceedings of the 2010 Conference of the Italian Systems Society. Papers deal with the interdisciplinary study of processes of changing related to a wide variety of specific disciplinary aspects. Classical attempts to deal with them, based on generalising approaches used to study the movement of bodies and environmental influence, have included ineffective reductionistic simplifications. Indeed changing also relates, for instance, to processes of acquisition and varying properties such as for software; growing and aging biological systems; learning/cognitive systems; and socio-economic systems growing and developing through innovations. Some approaches to modelling such processes are based on considering changes in structure, e.g., phase-transitions. Other approaches are based on considering (1) periodic changes in structure as for processes of self-organisation; (2) non-periodic but coherent changes in structure, as for processes of emergence; (3) the quantum level of description. Papers in the book study the problem considering its transdisciplinary nature, i.e., systemic properties studied per se and not within specific disciplinary contexts. The aim of these studies is to outline a transdisciplinary theory of change in systemic properties. Such a theory should have simultaneous, corresponding and eventually hierarchical disciplinary aspects as expected for a general theory of emergence. Within this transdisciplinary context, specific disciplinary research activities and results are assumed to be mutually represented as within a philosophical and conceptual framework based on the theoretical centrality of the observer and conceptual non-separability of context and observer, related to logically open systems and Quantum Entanglement. Contributions deal with such issues in interdisciplinary ways considering theoretical aspects and applications from Physics, Cognitive Science, Biology, Artificial Intelligence, Economics, Architecture, Philosophy, Music and Social Systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for new sources of time reversal violation (TRV) is one of the highest intellectual priorities in nuclear/particle/astrophysics. New sources of CP/T violation beyond the Standard Model are needed to explain the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. Theoretical progress to identify the large number of possible sources for TRV has made it very clear that any single type of TRV search cannot be equally sensitive to all possible mechanisms. It is therefore essential to pursue any experiments in different systems which can be realized with sufficient sensitivity to discover something new. Since TRV in the nucleon sector has not yet been observed, a nonzero observation in any nuclear system is of fundamental importance. TRV experiments involving p-wave neutron resonances in heavy nuclei are a sensitive system for such a search. The international collaboration NOPTREX proposes a TRV search through an asymmetry in polarized neutron transmission on epithermal p-wave resonances of polarized nuclei. Multiple papers have suggested that TRV in complex nuclei has the potential to be about 2 orders of magnitude more sensitive than the current limit from neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) experiments. A sensitive search for TRV in this process expands the variety of nuclear systems available to search for TRV parameters in various theories. This helps provide assurance that possible "accidental" cancellation of TRV effects due to unknown structural factors related to the strong interactions in particular systems can be avoided.

Book Study of Parity and Time Reversal Violation in Neutron nucleus Interactions

Download or read book Study of Parity and Time Reversal Violation in Neutron nucleus Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parity and time-reversal symmetries can be studies in neutron-nucleus interactions. Parity non-conserving asymmetries have been observed for many p-wave resonances in a compound nucleus and measurements were performed on several nuclei in the mass region of A∼100 and A∼230. The statistical model of the compound nucleus provides a theoretical basis for extracting mean-squared matrix elements from the experimental asymmetry data, and for interpreting the mean-squared matrix elements. The constraints on the weak meson-exchange couplings calculated from the compound-nucleus asymmetry data agree qualitatively with the results from few-body and light-nuclei experiments. The tests of time-reversal invariance in various experiments using thermal, epithermal and MeV neutrons are being developed.

Book Parity and Time reversal Symmetry Nonconservation in Neutron nucleus Interactions

Download or read book Parity and Time reversal Symmetry Nonconservation in Neutron nucleus Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parity non-conversation was studied for seventeen states in the compound nucleus 239U by measuring the helicity dependence of the p-wave resonance cross section for epithermal neutrons scattered from 238U. The root-mean-squared parity-violating matrix element for the mixing of p-wave and s-wave states was determined to be M = 0.58{sub -0.25}{sup +0.50} meV. This corresponds to a parity-violating spreading width of [Gamma]{sup PV} = 1.0 × 10−7 eV. This gives a value of 4 × 10−7 for [alpha]{sub p}, the ratio of strengths of the P-odd and P-even effective nucleon-nucleon interactions in 239U. The implications of these results for studies of Time Reversal Symmetry in the compound nucleus is discussed.

Book Experiments on Parity Violation in the Compound Nucleus

Download or read book Experiments on Parity Violation in the Compound Nucleus written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results from experiments that measure parity-violating longitudinal asymmetries in the scattering of epithermal neutrons from compound-nuclear resonances at the Manuel Lujan Neutron Scattering Center at Los Alamos are discussed. Parity non-conserving asymmetries have been observed for many p-wave resonances in a single target. Measurements were performed on several nuclei in the mass region of A-100 and A-230. For all nuclei but 232Th measured asymmetries have random signs. For 232Th eight of eight measured asymmetries are positive. This phenomenon is discussed in terms or doorway models.

Book CP Violation in Particle Nuclear and Astrophysics

Download or read book CP Violation in Particle Nuclear and Astrophysics written by Michael Beyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exciting experiments of the BABAR and BELLE collaborations have now proven violation of CP symmetry in the neutral B system. This has renewed strong interest in the physics of CP violation. Novel experimental techniques and new highly intense neutron sources are now becoming available to further test the related time reversal symmetry. They will substantially lower the current limit on the neutron electric dipole moment and hence open up new tests of theoretical concepts beyond the Standard Model. These are strongly required to explain the decisive excess of matter versus antimatter in our Universe. There is a de?nite need to communicate these exciting developments to younger scientists, and therefore we organized a summer school in October 2000 on “CP Violation and Related Topics”, which was held in Prerow, a small Baltic Sea resort. These Lecture Notes were inspired by the vivid - terest of the participants, and I am grateful to the authors, who faced the unexpected and delivered all the material for an up-to-date introduction to this broad ?eld. It is a great pleasure for me to warmly thank the Co-organizers of the summer school, Henning Schr ̈oder, Thomas Mannel, Klaus R. Schubert and my colleague Roland Waldi. Also I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Volkswagen-Stiftung for their ?nancial support of this inspiring summer school.
