Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agacinski's articulation of the theory of "parity" helped inspire a law that went into effect in May 2000 requiring France's political parties to fill 50 percent of the candidacies in every race with women. Agacinski's model of parity does not strive for the nebulous ideal of "equality" between the sexes; instead, it demands a concrete formula for political contests: an equal number of female and male candidates in every election. This theory that has sparked impassioned debate across France and around the globe.

Book Parity Nonconservation in Atomic Phenomena

Download or read book Parity Nonconservation in Atomic Phenomena written by Khriplovich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-11-04 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Khriplovich (physics, Novosibirsk U., USSR) describes his own work and that of others in demonstrating the first decisive confirmations of the unified model of atomic electroweak interactions. The studies of weak interaction by optical methods, at the boundary between elementary particle physics and atomic spectroscopy, have revealed parity nonconservation in atomic transitions. He considers the effects of space-inversion and time-reversal violations in atoms, molecules, and condensed matter. First published in Russian in 1981, and translated from the 1988 second edition. Book Parity Democracy

Download or read book Parity Democracy written by Jocelyne Praud and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-07-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1999 and 2000, France adopted laws to ensure equal access to elected office for women and men. Parity Democracy explores the evolution and influence of France's gender parity reforms, from their historical roots to their recent extension beyond the electoral sphere. Drawing on extensive interviews, as well as on European and French legal documents, Praud and Dauphin show that although these reforms have not dramatically boosted women's representation in the National Assembly, they have set in motion a process of feminization in the electoral sphere that bodes well for the future of parity democracy.

Book Exchange Rate Parity for Trade and Development

Download or read book Exchange Rate Parity for Trade and Development written by Pan A. Yotopoulos and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book extends recent theories of incomplete markets to investigate empirically the appropriate balance between the market and the state in the trade relations between developed and developing countries. The conclusion is that in an ideal world government intervention in foreign exchange and trade is necessary in developing countries in the early stages and inevitably decreases as development occurs. Rationing of foreign exchange prevents a 'soft currency distortion' that commonly afflicts developing countries and can turn comparative advantage trade into competitive devaluation trade, with severe losses of income and welfare. Yotopoulos finds that the level of underdevelopment narrowly circumscribes and conditions the extent to which free-market, free-trade, laissez-faire can be beneficial, contrary to the mainstream policy paradigm as currently applied. The analysis and tests draw on empirical research from seventy countries and four extended country studies to confirm the usefulness and validity of the theoretical framework.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did parity replace gender quotas in France as the preferred way to achieve greater representation for women in elected office? Why have these gender-based measures been embraced by some parties and not others? And, why do parties sometimes fail to implement quotas and parity? Gender Quotas, Parity Reform, and Political Parties in France considers this transition from quotas to parity, providing a history of French women's rights and the French electoral process, as well as an examination of the roles of the Socialist and Gaullist political parties.
