Book Parent Conference Models and Parent Perceptions of Student Academics and the Family school Relationship

Download or read book Parent Conference Models and Parent Perceptions of Student Academics and the Family school Relationship written by Shalonda M. Carney-Bledsoe and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research study was to investigate the influence of Student-led Parent Teacher Conferences on parental perception of student academic progress, parental knowledge of school structures, parental self-efficacy to support student academic progress, and the family-school relationship. Widely used family engagement models often have little impact on parent knowledge of school structures and student academics, parent self-efficacy, and the family-school relationship. The data collected from this study indicated an effect on knowledge and parental self-efficacy to support students and the family-school relationship. The findings from this informed school districts and schools of the implications of student-led conferences in order to bolster parental support and family-school partnership.

Book An Analysis of the Initial Implementation of Student Led Conferences in a Rural Elementary School with Third Grade Reading Students

Download or read book An Analysis of the Initial Implementation of Student Led Conferences in a Rural Elementary School with Third Grade Reading Students written by Cheryl Yvonne Lambert and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As school leaders intensify the focus on student-involvement in educational practices, student-led conferencing offers a viable alternative to traditional parent-teacher conferencing formats. This study examined the effects on student achievement as reported by universal screening scores along with the changes in perceptions of students, parents, and teachers regarding the initial implementation of student-led conferencing in a rural elementary school with third-grade reading students. The quantitative results offer additional data to the field of educational research which comprises limited evidence of this exploratory combination. The research questions addressed in this study include: Regarding universal screening scores for third-grade students in reading, is there a statistically significant difference between universal screening scores from Spring 2014, Fall 2014, and Winter 2014 for students participating in student-led conferences (SLC) compared to nonparticipating students (NonSLC)?Regarding student and parent surveys concerning student-led conferencing, is there a statistically significant difference between the students & rsquo; perceptions of student-led conferencing compared to the parents & rsquo; perceptions of student-led conferencing?Regarding teacher surveys concerning trust in parental involvement, is there a statistically significant difference between teachers & rsquo; perceptions of confidence in parent involvement before the implementation of student-led conferences compared to perceptions after the student-led conferences? A Repeated-Measures ANOVA was conducted to determine significant differences in screening score results. Statistical significance in scores was demonstrated between the first academic screening and the final academic screening resulting in positive mean increases. The perceptions of students and parents concerning student-led conferences were analyzed with a Mann-Whitney non-parametric test showing consistently positive results. The results of a Mann-Whitney test that analyzed perceptions of teachers regarding their confidence in parental involvement using pre- and post-survey items indicated no significant differences. The implications of this study give school leaders a foundation for successful student-led conferencing implementation that impacts student achievement and promotes stakeholder involvement.

Book The Primary Student led Conference Model

Download or read book The Primary Student led Conference Model written by Linda Clarke and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An age old process to enhance parent and teacher communication traditionally has been a parent/teachers conference. With the ever changing world of education, shortcomings and limitations have emerged from this traditional method. These limitations and shortcomings encourage schools to seek an alternative approach which utilizes student participation in conferences. Student-led conferences are an alternative method in which the student actively plans, implements, conducts and evaluates the parent conference with the teacher acting as a guide. Primary Student-Led Conference Model offers a concrete and sequential unit of lessons which will prepare students to conduct their conference. This model also improves parent communication, provides a clear understanding of expectations by students, parents, and teachers; additionally, develops a life long learner. The Primary Student-Led Conference Model changes both the overall classroom atmosphere and the communication between parents and teachers; as well as establishes clear expectations for each student.

Book Engaging Parents and Students

Download or read book Engaging Parents and Students written by Brandon Henderson and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This action research study explored the advantages and disadvantages of the Student Led Conference (SLC) format through the eyes of the school community. In the second year of its implementation middle school students (grades 6-8), their parents, and the middle school teachers of a private school were surveyed regarding their experiences with the SLC process. Twenty representatives from each group were then randomly selected for interviews to provide deeper understanding of the survey data. Both the surveys and the interviews were created with the following questions in mind: (a) What expectations did each group have approaching the conference, (b) how effective was communication during the conference, and (c) did the SLC promote positive change in the parties involved? As the qualitative and quantitative data overlapped, it became clear that the SLC had the potential to positively impact any school community that decided to implement it. Several key issues, however, needed to be addressed to maximize its potential benefit. Expectations regarding the conference should have been dealt with at the outset, parents needed access to information they could not acquire at home, and accountability measures must be established at the beginning of the year. Were these issues dealt with properly, the SLC would be a welcome addition to any school and a force for positive change.

Book Empowering students through student led conferences

Download or read book Empowering students through student led conferences written by Kay J. Scharlow and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attendance rates at parent-teacher conferences at the secondary level have continued to drop in the increasingly digital world. Another issue with this style of conference is the lack of student presence. When students take an active role in their education, self-assessing their work and keeping track of progress through the use of portfolios, there is often an increase in student engagement as well as achievement. Students who take ownership over their work also increase their self-efficacy. This project seeks to solve the problem of parent-teacher conferences and the lack of student engagement and ownership in their learning through the implementation of student-led conferences (SLC). The project plans a pilot program for the use of student portfolios and SLCs that will be ultimately tested through a series of parent/guardian and student surveys to determine the success of the project.
