Download or read book Laminar Turbulent Transition written by H.F. Fasel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-10-18 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origins of turbulent flow and the transition from laminar to turbulent flow are among the most important unsolved problems of fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. Besides being a fundamental question of fluid mechanics, there are many practical applications for information regarding transition location and the details of the subsequent turbulent flow. This proceedings volume contains the papers of two keynote lectures as well as of 104 technical presentations and posters that were presented at the IUTAM Symposium on Laminar-Turbulent Transition in Sedona, Arizona, September 13-17, 1999. The papers published in the present volume document the state of the art in transition research, and therefore, increased emphasis on the various topics covered in this meeting can be expected in the future.

Book Experimental Investigation of Ice Accretion Effects on a Swept Wing

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Ice Accretion Effects on a Swept Wing written by Michael Papadakis and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was conducted to study the effects of 2-, 5-, 10-, and 22.5-min ice accretions on the aerodynamic performance of a swept finite wing. The ice shapes tested included castings of ice accretions obtained from icing tests at the NASA Glenn Icing Research Tunnel (IRT) and simulated ice shapes obtained with the LEWICE 2.0 ice accretion code. The conditions used for the icing tests were selected to provide five glaze ice shapes with complete and incomplete scallop features and a small rime ice shape.

Book Measurement of the Critical Distance Parameter Against Icing Conditions on a NACA 0012 Swept Wing Tip

Download or read book Measurement of the Critical Distance Parameter Against Icing Conditions on a NACA 0012 Swept Wing Tip written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents the results of three experiments, one conducted in the Icing Research Tunnel (IRT) at NASA Glenn Research Center and two in the Goodrich Icing Wind Tunnel (IWT). The experiments were designed to measure the critical distance parameter on a NACA 0012 Swept Wing Tip at sweep angles of 45deg, 30deg, and 15deg. A time sequence imaging technique (TSIT) was used to obtain real time close-up imaging data during the first 2 min of the ice accretion formation. The time sequence photographic data was used to measure the critical distance at each icing condition and to study how it develops in real time. The effect on the critical distance of liquid water content, drop size, total temperature, and velocity was studied. The results were interpreted using a simple energy balance on a roughness element Vargas, Mario and Kreeger, Richard E. Book Current Experimental Basis for Modeling Ice Accretions on Swept Wings

Download or read book Current Experimental Basis for Modeling Ice Accretions on Swept Wings written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents a review of the experimental basis for modeling ice accretions on swept wings. Experimental work related to ice accretion physics on swept wings conducted between 1954 and 2004 is reviewed. Proposed models or explanations of scallop formations are singled out and discussed. Special emphasis is placed on reviewing the work done to determine the basic macroscopic mechanisms of scallop formation. The role of feather growth and its connection to scallop growth is discussed. Conceptual steps in modeling scallop formations are presented. Research elements needed for modeling are discussed.Vargas, MarioGlenn Research CenterSWEPT WINGS; ICE FORMATION; ICE; RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
