Book Complexes of Palladium II and Platinum II as Synthetic Proteases

Download or read book Complexes of Palladium II and Platinum II as Synthetic Proteases written by Nebojša M. Milović and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selective cleavage of proteins is a common procedure in many biochemical applications ranging from standard protein sequencing to novel methods in proteomics and bioengineering. Few enzymes and synthetic reagents are available for this important task, but new chemical reagents with improved efficiency and adjustable selectivity are highly desired. Complexes of palladium(II) and platinum(Il), two chemically similar transition-metal ions, are new reagents for selective cleavage of peptides and proteins. The cleavage by Pd(II) complexes, such as [Pd(H2O)4]2 or cis-[Pd(en)(H2O)2]2+, consistently occurs in weakly acidic aqueous solutions at the amide bond involving the N-terminus of the residue preceding histidine and methionine residues, i.e., the X-Y bond in the sequence segments X-Y-Met-Z and X-Y-His-Z, where X, Y, and Z are any non-coordinating residues. As pH is raised to neutral, the cleavage becomes sequence-specific - only the X-Pro bond in X-Pro-Met-Z and X-Pro-His-Z sequences is cleaved because of the unique interplay between the anchoring residue and the proline residue preceding it. The cleavage by Pt(II) complexes, such as cis-[Pt(en)(H2O)2]2+, occurs exclusively at the peptide bond involving the C-terminus of methionine residues, i.e. the Met-Z bond. In studies with peptide substrates, we explain the exceptional proteolytic selectivity of Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes by identifying the hydrolytically-active modes in which these metal ions bind to the side chains of the anchoring residues and to the polypeptide backbone. The selectivity of cleavage originates in the selectivity of the coordination - under the reaction conditions, both methionine and histidine residues can bind to the Pd(II) reagents, whereas only methionine residue can bind to the Pt(II) reagent. The mechanism of cleavage originates in the modes of coordination - the anchored metal ion can approach the scissile peptide bond and activate it toward hydrolysis. The studies with protein substrates confirmed the cleavage pattern observed with peptides, and demonstrated that the Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes are well-suited for biochemical applications. The ability of these complexes to cleave proteins at relatively few sites, with explicable selectivity and good yields, bodes well for their growing use in biochemical and bioanalytical practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With platinum and rhodium, palladium is one of the most important members of the platinum metal group. The last Gmelin treatment of it was in 1942, and knowledge of its properties and chemistry has made enormous strides since then. This volume is primarily concerned with binary compounds and with the coordination complexes derived from them. Although it is a member of the nickel-palladium-platinum triad, it more closely resernblas platinum in its binary and coordination chemistry, though being a second-row transition element it displays less tendency than does platinum to assume higher oxidation states. ln heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, referred to at appropriate points, palladium and its complexes are of great importance in bulk and fine chemieals production, effecting a wide variety of organic transformations. The arrangement of material in this volume follows the traditional Gmelin arrangement. Within each category of compounds or complexes the material is arranged, as usual, in order of ascending metal oxidation states (e. g., palladium(ll) precedes palladium(IV)). The chemistry of the palladium-hydrogen system is so large that it merits a separate volume, so this book starts with the binary oxides and oxopalladates followed by hydroxides, hydroxo complexes and aquo complexes. Then nitrides and nitrates are treated. They are followed by the large chapters on halides and their complexes (172 pages). The largest single chapter in this volume (11 0 pages) deals with chlorides, chloropalladates and other chloro complexes.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthetic, structural, spectroscopic, and redox studies of platinum(II) and palladium(II) compounds with mer-coordinating ligands have been undertaken in an effort to better understand the role of the metal and the ligands in controlling d^6/d^8 electron-transfer reactions. A series of Pd(pip2NCN)X (pip2NCNH=1,3-bis(piperdylmethyl)benzene) and [Pd(pip2NNN)X]X (X=Cl, Br, I) (pip2NNN=2,6- bis(piperdyl-methyl)pyridine) complexes are reported. Electronic spectra are consistent with stabilization of ligand-to-metal-charge-transfer states as the ancillary ligand is varied along the ClBr

Book Synthesis and Reactivity of Unusual Palladium II Complexes Supported by a Diarylamido BIS Phosphine PNP Pincer Ligand

Download or read book Synthesis and Reactivity of Unusual Palladium II Complexes Supported by a Diarylamido BIS Phosphine PNP Pincer Ligand written by Rafael Huacuja and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation discusses the synthesis and reactivity of divalent palladium complexes supported by diarylamido bis-phosphine pincer ligands (PNP). The PNP is a tridentate pincer type ligand which typically adopts meridional type coordination. The rigidity and tight coordination of the PNP ligand provides the unique opportunity to study the coordination of ligands such as O2 and C2H4 to a single coordination site on palladium, or the reactivity of a single empty coordination site trans to a weak trans-influencing ligand such as diarylamido. Irradiation of [(^(F)PNP^(iPr))Pd-]2 under an atmosphere of dioxygen irreversibly produces a mixture of a monohapto palladium(II) superoxide ((^(F)PNP^(iPr))PdO2) and a palladium micro-peroxide ([(^(F)PNP^(iPr))PdO-]2). Under photolytic conditions these two complexes are in equilibrium with each other. (^(F)PNP^(iPr))PdO2, an open-shell paramagnetic species, was characterized by a combination of single-crystal X-ray crystallography, EPR, and 19F NMR spectroscopies. In addition, irradiation of [(PNP)Pd-]2 under an atmosphere of C2H4 produces a mixture of [(PNP)Pd-]2 and a ethylene-bridged dinuclear palladium complex ([(PNP)Pd-CH2-]2). If the ethylene headspace is removed, and [(PNP)Pd-CH2-]2 is irradiated it is completely converted to [(PNP)Pd-]2. This suggests that in the presence of ethylene these two complexes are in photolytic equilibrium with each other. In addition, this dissertation will also discuss the synthesis and reactivity of [(PNPR)Pd]+ (R = ^(i)Pr, ^(t)Bu) cations. [(^(F)PNP^(iPr))Pd]+ cations are highly electrophilic complexes that are able to coordinate Lewis bases such as THF, H2O, and even extremely poor Lewis bases such as toluene and benzene. In addition, irradiation of [(^(F)PNP^(iPr))Pd]+ cations in bromobenzene induces the abstraction of a bromine atom from bromobenzene, consistent with a metalloradical species. Addition of dioxygen to [(^(F)PNP^(iPr))Pd]+ cations generates a paramagnetic, cationic [eta]1 superoxide. In non-halogenated arene solvents [(^(F)PNP^(iPr))Pd]+ cations undergo a highly unusual photo-induced isomerization of the isopropyl groups on the supporting phosphines to n-propyl. This unprecedented isomerization is believed to occur via C-P bond cleavage and is driven by the decrease in sterics around the metal, which allows for the facilitated coordination of the arene solvent. Book Reaction Mechanisms in Carbon Dioxide Conversion

Download or read book Reaction Mechanisms in Carbon Dioxide Conversion written by Michele Aresta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-07 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an analysis of the reaction mechanisms relevant to a number of processes in which CO2 is converted into valuable products. Several different processes are considered that convert CO2 either in specialty chemicals or in bulk products or fuels. For each reaction, the mechanism is discussed and the assessed steps besides the dark sites of the reaction pathway are highlighted. From the insertion of CO2 into E-X bonds to the reduction of CO2 to CO or other C1 molecules or else to C2 or Cn molecules, the reactions are analysed in order to highlight the known and obscure reaction steps. Besides well known reaction mechanisms and energy profiles, several lesser known situations are discussed. Advancing knowledge of the latter would help to develop efficient routes for the conversion of CO2 into valuable products useful either in the chemical or in the energy industry. The content of this book is quite different from other books reporting the use of CO2. On account of its clear presentation, “Reaction Mechanisms in Carbon Dioxide Conversion” targets in particular researchers, teachers and PhD students.

Download or read book The Anomeric Effect written by Eusebio Juaristi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-10-12 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of the structural, conformational, and chemical manifestations of the anomeric effect. In order to present a cogent discussion of this most fundamental and relevant phenomenon, three chapters examine our present understanding of the origin of this conformational effect, based upon a wealth of theoretical and physical data. Equally important, however, are three additional chapters that deal with the general consequences of the stereoelectronic interactions that are associated with the basis of the anomeric effect. The remainder of the book is devoted to new areas of development in the topic-such as differentiation of the endo and exo anomeric interactions, specific analysis of the enthalpic component of anomeric effects, critical evaluation of the kinetics and reverse anomeric effects, discovery of a new substantial effect in second- and lower-row anomeric segments, and others.
