Book Parallel Solution of Large scale Block angular Linear Programs

Download or read book Parallel Solution of Large scale Block angular Linear Programs written by Judah Ben Rosen and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Many important large-scale optimization problems can be formulated as linear programs with a block-angular structure. This structure lends itself naturally to parallel solutions and is used to great advantage in the solution method described. To demonstrate the efficiency of the method, it has between implemented and computationally tested on both a shared-memory vector multiprocessor (CRAY-2) and a local-memory hypercube (NCUBE/seven) with 64 processors. Computational results for problems with as many as 24,000 rows and 74,000 columns (1,024 blocks and 1.4 million nonzero elements) are presented. A problem of this size was solved on the NCUBE in less than four minutes and on the CRAY-2 in 37 seconds."

Book Applied Parallel Computing Industrial Computation and Optimization

Download or read book Applied Parallel Computing Industrial Computation and Optimization written by Jerzy Wasniewski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-12-11 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the last decade has witnessed significant advances in control theory for finite and infinite dimensional systems, the stability and control of time-delay systems have not been fully investigated. Many problems exist in this field that are still unresolved, and there is a tendency for the numerical methods available either to be too general or too specific to be applied accurately across a range of problems. This monograph brings together the latest trends and new results in this field, with the aim of presenting methods covering a large range of techniques. Particular emphasis is placed on methods that can be directly applied to specific problems. The resulting book is one that will be of value to both researchers and practitioners.

Book Distributed Decomposition of Block Angular Linear Programs on a Hypercube Computer

Download or read book Distributed Decomposition of Block Angular Linear Programs on a Hypercube Computer written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algorithms based on the Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition principle for linear programs are implemented on an Intel iPSC-2 Hypercube computer with 64- processors. Computational results with block-angular linear programs from diverse applications are reported. They indicate that the approach of distributed computation on relatively inexpensive multiple processor computers may be very cost-effective for large, structured linear programs. It is also shown that by studying certain characteristics of the interaction among the master and subproblems, one can select algorithms that best exploit the parallel processing environment. Keywords: Large-scale systems; Linear programming decomposition; Parallel processing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the ?nal outcome of VECPAR 2000 – 4th International Meeting on Vector and Parallel Processing. VECPAR constitutes a series of conferences, which have been organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto since 1993, with the main objective of disseminating new knowledge on parallel computing. Readership of This Book The book is aimed at an audience of researchers and graduate students in a broad range of scienti?c areas, including not only computer science, but also applied mathematics and numerical analysis, physics, and engineering. Book Plan From a total of 66 papers selected on the basis of extended abstracts for p- sentation at the conference, a subset of 34 papers were chosen during a second review process leading to their inclusion in the book, together with the invited talks. The book contains a total of 40 papers organized into 6 chapters, where each may appeal to people in di?erent but still related scienti?c areas. All ch- ters, with the exception of Chapter 6, are initiated by a short text, providing a quick overview of the organization and papers in the chapter. The 13 papers in Chapter 1 cover the aspects related to the use of multiple processors. Operating systems, languages and software tools for scheduling, and code transformation are the topics included in this chapter, initiated by the talk on computing over the Internet, entitled Grid Computing,byIan Foster.

Book Parallel Computing in Optimization

Download or read book Parallel Computing in Optimization written by A. Migdalas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last three decades, breakthroughs in computer technology have made a tremendous impact on optimization. In particular, parallel computing has made it possible to solve larger and computationally more difficult prob lems. This volume contains mainly lecture notes from a Nordic Summer School held at the Linkoping Institute of Technology, Sweden in August 1995. In order to make the book more complete, a few authors were invited to contribute chapters that were not part of the course on this first occasion. The purpose of this Nordic course in advanced studies was three-fold. One goal was to introduce the students to the new achievements in a new and very active field, bring them close to world leading researchers, and strengthen their competence in an area with internationally explosive rate of growth. A second goal was to strengthen the bonds between students from different Nordic countries, and to encourage collaboration and joint research ventures over the borders. In this respect, the course built further on the achievements of the "Nordic Network in Mathematical Programming" , which has been running during the last three years with the support ofthe Nordic Council for Advanced Studies (NorFA). The final goal was to produce literature on the particular subject, which would be available to both the participating students and to the students of the "next generation" .

Book On Large scale Linear Programming

Download or read book On Large scale Linear Programming written by Markku Juhani Kallio and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three classes of methods are proposed for solving large-scale linear programs. First, sequential projection is applied to reformulate the linear program as a dynamic program. Second, the revised simplex method using a special factorization for the basis is considered. Third, a class of feasible direction methods is presented. A comparison of these three classes is made. A probabilistic model is developed to estimate computational effort for matrix multiplications. This model is applied to estimate computational effort for linear programming algorithms.
