Book Parallel Robots with Unconventional Joints to Achieve Under actuation and Reconfigurability

Download or read book Parallel Robots with Unconventional Joints to Achieve Under actuation and Reconfigurability written by Patrick Grosch and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the thesis is to define, analyze, and verify through simulations and practical implementations, parallel robots with unconventional joints that allow them to be under-actuated and/or reconfigurable. The new designs will be derived from the: * 6SPS robot (alternatively 6UPS or 6SPU, depending on the implementation) when considering the spatial case (i.e., robots with 3 degrees of freedom of rotation and 3 degrees of freedom of translation). * S-3SPS robot (alternatively S-3UPS or S-3SPU, depending on the implementation) when considering spherical robots (i.e., robots with 3 degrees of freedom of rotation). In both cases, we will see how, through certain geometric transformations, some of the standard joints can be replaced by lockable or non-holonomic joints. These substitutions permit reducing the number of legs (and hence the number of actuators needed to control the robot), without losing the robot's ability to bring its mobile platform to any position and orientation (in case of a spatial robot), or to any orientation (in case of a spherical robot), within its workspace. The expected benefit of these new designs is to obtain parallel robots with: * larger working spaces because the possibility of collisions between legs is reduced, and the number of joints (with their intrinsic range limitations) is also reduced; * lower weight because the number of actuators and joints is reduced; and * lower cost because the number of actuators and controllers is also reduced. The elimination of an actuator and the introduction of a motion constraint reduces in one the dimension of the space of allowed velocities attainable from a given configuration. As a result, it will be necessary, in general, to plan maneuvers to reach the desired configuration for the moving platform. Therefore, the obtained robots will only be suitable for applications where accuracy is required in the final position and a certain margin of error is acceptable in the generated trajectories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how, through certain geometric transformations, some of the standard joints used in parallel robots can be replaced with lockable or non-holonomic joints. These substitutions allow for reducing the number of legs, and hence the number of actuators needed to control the robot, without losing the robot's ability to bring its mobile platform to the desired configuration. The kinematics of the most representative examples of these new designs are analyzed and their theoretical features verified through simulations and practical implementations.

Book Dynamics of Parallel Robots

Download or read book Dynamics of Parallel Robots written by Sébastien Briot and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-22 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book starts with a short recapitulation on basic concepts, common to any types of robots (serial, tree structure, parallel, etc.), that are also necessary for computation of the dynamic models of parallel robots. Then, as dynamics requires the use of geometry and kinematics, the general equations of geometric and kinematic models of parallel robots are given. After, it is explained that parallel robot dynamic models can be obtained by decomposing the real robot into two virtual systems: a tree-structure robot (equivalent to the robot legs for which all joints would be actuated) plus a free body corresponding to the platform. Thus, the dynamics of rigid tree-structure robots is analyzed and algorithms to obtain their dynamic models in the most compact form are given. The dynamic model of the real rigid parallel robot is obtained by closing the loops through the use of the Lagrange multipliers. The problem of the dynamic model degeneracy near singularities is treated and optimal trajectory planning for crossing singularities is proposed. Lastly, the approach is extended to flexible parallel robots and the algorithms for computing their symbolic model in the most compact form are given. All theoretical developments are validated through experiments.

Book Parallel Robots

Download or read book Parallel Robots written by Hamid D. Taghirad and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-02-20 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel structures are more effective than serial ones for industrial automation applications that require high precision and stiffness, or a high load capacity relative to robot weight. Although many industrial applications have adopted parallel structures for their design, few textbooks introduce the analysis of such robots in terms of dynamics and control. Filling this gap, Parallel Robots: Mechanics and Control presents a systematic approach to analyze the kinematics, dynamics, and control of parallel robots. It brings together analysis and design tools for engineers and researchers who want to design and implement parallel structures in industry. Covers Kinematics, Dynamics, and Control in One Volume The book begins with the representation of motion of robots and the kinematic analysis of parallel manipulators. Moving beyond static positioning, it then examines a systematic approach to performing Jacobian analysis. A special feature of the book is its detailed coverage of the dynamics and control of parallel manipulators. The text examines dynamic analysis using the Newton-Euler method, the principle of virtual work, and the Lagrange formulations. Finally, the book elaborates on the control of parallel robots, considering both motion and force control. It introduces various model-free and model-based controllers and develops robust and adaptive control schemes. It also addresses redundancy resolution schemes in detail. Analysis and Design Tools to Help You Create Parallel Robots In each chapter, the author revisits the same case studies to show how the techniques may be applied. The case studies include a planar cable-driven parallel robot, part of a promising new generation of parallel structures that will allow for larger workspaces. The MATLAB® code used for analysis and simulation is available online. Combining the analysis of kinematics and dynamics with methods of designing controllers, this text offers a holistic introduction for anyone interested in designing and implementing parallel robots.

This book was released on 2009-02-15 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The mathematical investigations referred to bring the whole apparatus of a great science to the examination of the properties of a given mechanism, and have accumulated in this direction rich material, of enduring and increasing value. What is left unexamined is however the other, immensely deeper part of the problem, the question: How did the mechanism, or the elements of which it is composed, originate? What laws govern its building up? Is it indeed formed according to any laws whatever? Or have we simply to accept as data what invention gives us, the analysis of what is thus obtained being the only scientific problem left – as in the case of natural history?” Reuleaux, F., Theoretische Kinematik, Braunschweig: Vieweg, 1875 Reuleaux, F., The Kinematics of Machinery, London: Macmillan, 1876 and New York: Dover, 1963 (translated by A.B.W. Kennedy) This book represents the second part of a larger work dedicated to the structural synthesis of parallel robots. Part 1 already published in 2008 (Gogu 2008a) has presented the methodology proposed for structural synthesis. This book focuses on various topologies of translational parallel robots systematically generated by using the structural synthesis approach proposed in Part 1. The originality of this work resides in the fact that it combines the new formulae for mobility connectivity, redundancy and overconstraints, and the evolutionary morphology in a unified approach of structural synthesis giving interesting innovative solutions for parallel mechanisms.

Book excerpt: “In other words, the invention of a mechanism will be to the scientific kinematist a synthetic problem, - which he can solve by the use of systematic, if also difficult, methods.” Reuleaux, F., Theoretische Kinematik, Braunschweig: Vieweg, 1875 Reuleaux, F., The Kinematics of Machinery, London: Macmillan, 1876 and New York: Dover, 1963 (translated by A.B.W. Kennedy) This book represents the third part of a larger work dedicated to the structural synthesis of parallel robots. Part 1 (Gogu 2008a) presented the methodology of structural synthesis and the systematisation of structural solutions of simple and complex limbs with two to six degrees of connectivity systematically generated by the structural synthesis approach. Part 2 (Gogu 2009a) presented structural solutions of translational parallel robotic manipulators with two and three degrees of mobility. This book focuses on various topologies of parallel robotic manipulators with planar motion of the moving platform systematically generated by using the structural synthesis approach proposed in Part 1. The originality of this work resides in the fact that it combines the new formulae for mobility connectivity, redundancy and overconstraints, and the evolutionary morphology in a unified approach of structural synthesis giving interesting innovative solutions for parallel mechanisms.

Book New Frontiers in Parallel Robots

Download or read book New Frontiers in Parallel Robots written by Zhufeng Shao and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2023-07-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parallel robot, a kind of robot that utilizes multiple closed-loop branch chains jointly connecting and driving the moving platform, is an important part of modern robotics, with outstanding advantages of high stiffness, high precision and high speed. Parallel robots can efficiently change performance through the configuration of synthesis and design. The rich variety of configurations and the existence of a large number of passive joints also brought abundant challenges and research topics to the modeling, optimization, calibration and trajectory planning of parallel robots. This book focuses on the research frontiers of parallel robots from fundamental theory to application technology. Special attention is paid to kinematics/dynamics modeling, error modeling and calibration, impedance control and the machining stability of parallel robots. Notably, a considerable portion of the book focuses on cable-driven parallel robots (CDPRs) that integrate cable-driven kinematic chains and parallel mechanism theory. CDPRs inherit the high dynamics and heavy load capacities of parallel robots and significantly improve the workspace, cost and energy efficiency simultaneously, following the cutting-edge trend of rigid-flexible fusion.
