Book Parallel Multigrid DNS LES Methods for Time Dependent Compressible Turbulent Flow

Download or read book Parallel Multigrid DNS LES Methods for Time Dependent Compressible Turbulent Flow written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past two years (12/00-3/03), we have developed a very efficient and reliable direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large eddy simulation (LES) software (DNSUTA) for compressible flow in a curvilinear coordinates which is a continuation of our previous effort supported by AFOSR. The software includes a high-quality grid generation code which can generate smooth and near-orthogonal, body-fitted grids and a parallel efficient flow solver which applies sixth-order compact scheme, eighth-order filter, LU-SGS flow solver, non-reflecting boundary condition, high-order weighted compact scheme for shock capturing, structure function sub-grid model, and MPI parallel computation. The code has been successfully used for prediction of flow transition around flat plate and airfoils with various attack angles. The code has also been used for flow separation control for low Reynolds airfoils with steady and pulsed blowing jets. All of these simulations are real time dependent, 3-D, with general geometry and have demonstrated qualitative or quantitative agreement with experiment or theoretical work. We believe the topics described above are very challenging and our accomplishment is very significant for both basic science and Air Force mission. The high-order weighted compact scheme and non-reflecting boundary conditions in a curvilinear coordinate are the original work conducted by us which is a significant contribution to the CFD community.

Book Parallel Implicit Multigrid Method for Direct Numerical Simulation of Time Dependent Compressible Turbulent Flow Around Flight Vehicles

Download or read book Parallel Implicit Multigrid Method for Direct Numerical Simulation of Time Dependent Compressible Turbulent Flow Around Flight Vehicles written by Chaoqun Liu and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An oblique transition process of a flat-plate boundary layer at a free-stream Mach number of M (infinity) =4.5 and a Reynolds number of 10000 based on free-stream velocity and inflow displacement thickness is simulated as the validation of the code. Four transitional stages are observed: the linear and weakly nonlinear growth, the appearance of staggered A-vortex patterns, the evolution of A-vortex into hairpin vortex, the breakdown of hairpin vortical structures. The evolution of averaged quantities, such as the skin-friction coefficient, the mean velocity profile, the boundary layer thickness are all computed and found agreed very well with theoretic and experimental results. For complex geometry, 2D and 3D numerical grid generation method are used to generate high-quality meshes. Subsonic flow around 2D NACA 0012 airfoil and 3D Delta wing with a large angle of attack are investigated with large eddy simulation. Flow separations and large eddy structures are observed, the interactions between vortical structures will be studied.

Book excerpt: This text presents the key findings of the International Symposium held in Delft in 2003, which explored the process of shallow flows. Shallow flows are found in lowland rivers, lakes, estuaries, bays, coastal areas and in density-stratified atmospheres, and may be observed in puddles, as in oceans. They impact on the life and work of a w

Book TILDA Towards Industrial LES DNS in Aeronautics

Download or read book TILDA Towards Industrial LES DNS in Aeronautics written by Charles Hirsch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-28 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers detailed insights into new methods for high-fidelity CFD, and their industrially relevant applications in aeronautics. It reports on the H2020 TILDA project, funded by the European Union in 2015-2018. The respective chapters demonstrate the potential of high-order methods for enabling more accurate predictions of non-linear, unsteady flows, ensuring enhanced reliability in CFD predictions. The book highlights industrially relevant findings and representative test cases on the development of high-order methods for unsteady turbulence simulations on unstructured grids; on the development of the LES/DNS methodology by means of multilevel, adaptive, fractal and similar approaches for applications on unstructured grids; and on leveraging existent large-scale HPC networks to facilitate the industrial applications of LES/DNS in daily practice. Furthermore, the book discusses multidisciplinary applications of high-order methods in the area of aero-acoustics. All in all, it offers timely insights into the application and performance of high-order methods for CFD, and an extensive reference guide for researchers, graduate students, and industrial engineers whose work involves CFD and turbulence modeling.

Book Simulation and Modeling of Turbulent Flows

Download or read book Simulation and Modeling of Turbulent Flows written by Thomas B. Gatski and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996-07-11 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides students and researchers in fluid engineering with an up-to-date overview of turbulent flow research in the areas of simulation and modeling. A key element of the book is the systematic, rational development of turbulence closure models and related aspects of modern turbulent flow theory and prediction. Starting with a review of the spectral dynamics of homogenous and inhomogeneous turbulent flows, succeeding chapters deal with numerical simulation techniques, renormalization group methods and turbulent closure modeling. Each chapter is authored by recognized leaders in their respective fields, and each provides a thorough and cohesive treatment of the subject.

Book Fluid Structure Interaction II

Download or read book Fluid Structure Interaction II written by Hans-Joachim Bungartz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid-structure interactions (FSI), i.e., the interplay of some moveable or deformable structure with an internal or surrounding fluid, are among the most widespread and most challenging coupled or multi-physics problems. Although much has been accomplished in developing good computational FSI methods and despite convincing solutions to a number of classes of problems including those presented in this book, there is a need for more comprehensive studies showing that the computational methods proposed are reliable, robust, and efficient beyond the classes of problems they have successfully been applied to.This volume of LNCSE, a sequel to vol. 53, which contained, among others, the first numerical benchmark for FSI problems and has received considerable attention since then, presents a collection of papers from the "First International Workshop on Computational Engineering - special focus FSI," held in Herrsching in October 2009 and organized by three DFG-funded consortia. The papers address all relevant aspects of FSI simulation and discuss FSI from the mathematical, informatical, and engineering perspective.

Book Efficient High Order Discretizations for Computational Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Efficient High Order Discretizations for Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Martin Kronbichler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces modern high-order methods for computational fluid dynamics. As compared to low order finite volumes predominant in today's production codes, higher order discretizations significantly reduce dispersion errors, the main source of error in long-time simulations of flow at higher Reynolds numbers. A major goal of this book is to teach the basics of the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method in terms of its finite volume and finite element ingredients. It also discusses the computational efficiency of high-order methods versus state-of-the-art low order methods in the finite difference context, given that accuracy requirements in engineering are often not overly strict. The book mainly addresses researchers and doctoral students in engineering, applied mathematics, physics and high-performance computing with a strong interest in the interdisciplinary aspects of computational fluid dynamics. It is also well-suited for practicing computational engineers who would like to gain an overview of discontinuous Galerkin methods, modern algorithmic realizations, and high-performance implementations.
