Book Parallel Computation of Three Dimensional Unsteady Wake Flows Using Vortex Methods

Download or read book Parallel Computation of Three Dimensional Unsteady Wake Flows Using Vortex Methods written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of the research were to develop computational techniques for parallel computers capable of simulating complex, three-dimensional, unsteady wake flows at high Reynolds numbers and to apply these techniques to such flows as those about maneuvering three-dimensional bodies. A Lagrangian vortex method was used as a basis for the numerical scheme. In vortex methods the only grid required is that to mesh the surface of the body. In addition, the computational elements containing vorticity move with the local fluid velocity and are required only in the boundary layers and wake of a bluff body flow. This technique is therefore a natural candidate for the simulation of wake flows in that the fluid containing vorticity for these flows occupies only a small fraction of the total fluid volume of interest. A robust vortex particle method for three-dimensional flows was developed, including a new treatment of viscous effects to allow for the accurate treatment of boundary layer mechanics including unsteady separation. In addition, to allow for ambitious, three-dimensional applications, fast algorithms were developed for both the vortex particle method and the panel method (used to satisfy the no-slip boundary condition on the body surface). These algorithms were implemented on the Intel Delta supercomputer at Caltech. This 576 mode machine has 528 Intel i860 numerical processors giving a total computing capability of over 30 Gflops peak performance with 8 Gbytes of memory.

Book Frontiers in Computational Fluid Structure Interaction and Flow Simulation

Download or read book Frontiers in Computational Fluid Structure Interaction and Flow Simulation written by Tayfun E. Tezduyar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-01 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and flow simulation are challenging research areas that bring solution and analysis to many classes of problems in science, engineering, and technology. Young investigators under the age of 40 are conducting much of the frontier research in these areas, some of which is highlighted in this volume. The first author of each chapter took the lead role in carrying out the research presented. Some of the topics explored include Direct flow simulation of objects represented by point clouds Computational investigation of leaflet flutter in thinner biological heart valve tissues High-fidelity simulation of hydrokinetic energy applications High-resolution isogeometric analysis of car and tire aerodynamics Computational analysis of air-blast-structure interaction Heart valve computational flow analysis with boundary layer and leaflet contact representation Computational thermal multi-phase flow for metal additive manufacturing This volume will be a valuable resource for early-career researchers and students — not only those interested in computational FSI and flow simulation, but also other fields of engineering and science, including fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and computational mathematics – as it will provide them with inspiration and guidance for conducting their own successful research. It will also be of interest to senior researchers looking to learn more about successful research led by those under 40 and possibly offer collaboration to these researchers.

Book Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics 98

Download or read book Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics 98 written by Chiao-ling Lin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-05-26 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the papers presented at the Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics 1998 Conference. The book is focused on new developments and applications of parallel technology. Key topics are introduced through contributed papers and invited lectures. These include typical algorithmic developments, such as: distributed computing, domain decomposition and parallel algorithm. Some of the papers address the evaluations of software and machine performance and software tool environments. The application of parallel computers to complex fluid dynamics problems are also conveyed through sessions such as DNS/LES, combustion and reacting flows, industrial applications, water resources and environmental flows. The editors believe this book will provide many researchers, much beyond those contributing to this volume, with fresh information and reference.

Book Computational Fluid Structure Interaction

Download or read book Computational Fluid Structure Interaction written by Yuri Bazilevs and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Fluid-Structure Interaction: Methods and Applications takes the reader from the fundamentals of computational fluid and solid mechanics to the state-of-the-art in computational FSI methods, special FSI techniques, and solution of real-world problems. Leading experts in the field present the material using a unique approach that combines advanced methods, special techniques, and challenging applications. This book begins with the differential equations governing the fluid and solid mechanics, coupling conditions at the fluid–solid interface, and the basics of the finite element method. It continues with the ALE and space–time FSI methods, spatial discretization and time integration strategies for the coupled FSI equations, solution techniques for the fully-discretized coupled equations, and advanced FSI and space–time methods. It ends with special FSI techniques targeting cardiovascular FSI, parachute FSI, and wind-turbine aerodynamics and FSI. Key features: First book to address the state-of-the-art in computational FSI Combines the fundamentals of computational fluid and solid mechanics, the state-of-the-art in FSI methods, and special FSI techniques targeting challenging classes of real-world problems Covers modern computational mechanics techniques, including stabilized, variational multiscale, and space–time methods, isogeometric analysis, and advanced FSI coupling methods Is in full color, with diagrams illustrating the fundamental concepts and advanced methods and with insightful visualization illustrating the complexities of the problems that can be solved with the FSI methods covered in the book. Authors are award winning, leading global experts in computational FSI, who are known for solving some of the most challenging FSI problems Computational Fluid-Structure Interaction: Methods and Applications is a comprehensive reference for researchers and practicing engineers who would like to advance their existing knowledge on these subjects.
