Book Restaurants of Venice

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alessandro Tortato
  • Publisher : Ronzani Editore
  • Release : 2024-06-19
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 234 pages

Download or read book Restaurants of Venice written by Alessandro Tortato and published by Ronzani Editore. This book was released on 2024-06-19 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alessandro Tortato, a music professor, orchestra conductor, and acute historian, tempers and tunes his culinary passion in his spare time. To the delight of us readers. In Restaurants of Venice, he shelved baton and volumes to take on the role of the friend who confidentially guides us through calli and campi. The “maestro,” as Alessandro is called by those who know him, here employed his skills to bring to life an unprecedented book. Restaurants of Venice fills a gap, for an accurate mapping of Venetian restaurants has not existed until now. And Tortato has finally drawn it, in his own way, marrying curiosity, history and flavors in a jargon-free, accessible and appealing style. We needed a guide like this, and only Alessandro could write it. You will not find the expert’s narcissistic flaunting or insiders’ terminology. It is a book for everyone, written with a smile, conceived for the tourist who comes from afar but also for those who simply want to learn more about the art of eating out in Venice. These pages are not just a guide to restaurants but an unprecedented journey through the world’s most explored city. It is a sentimental journey that will enable you to experience Venice with new eyes. Each restaurant hides a story, with its own peculiarities. There is nothing serial, nothing already known. No platitudes and clichés. Everything is unique: you will happen to taste cod in Tintoretto’s studio or enjoy a plate of carpaccio next to Woody Allen. Tortato has devised a guidebook that is as light as one of Mozart’s arias. Places, chefs, dishes and ingredients are described through a seductive narrative inviting us to discover the true flavors of Venice. Alessandro Zangrando

Book Global Milton and Visual Art

Download or read book Global Milton and Visual Art written by Angelica Duran and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Milton and Visual Art showcases the aesthetic appropriation and reinterpretation of the works and legend of the early modern English poet and politician John Milton in diverse eras, regions, and media: book illustrations, cinema, digital reworkings, monuments, painting, sculpture, shieldry, and stained glass. It innovates an inclusive approach to Milton’s literary art, especially his masterpiece Paradise Lost, in global contemporary aesthetics via intertextual and interdisciplinary relations. The fifteen purposefully-brief chapters, 103 illustrations, and 64 supplemental web-images reflect the great richness of the topics and the diverse experiences and expertise of the contributors. Part I: Panoramas, provides overviews and key contexts; Part II: Cameos offers different perspectives of the varied afterlives of the most widely-circulating illustrations of Paradise Lost, those by Gustave Doré; Part III: Textual Close-ups focuses on a rich variety of book illustrations, from centuries-old elite engravings to a twenty-first century graphic novel; and Part IV: A Prospect beyond Books, explores visual media outside of books that manifest powerful connections, direct and indirect, with Milton’s works and legend.

Book Enforcing and Eluding Censorship

Download or read book Enforcing and Eluding Censorship written by Giovanni Iamartino and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enforcing and Eluding Censorship: British and Anglo-Italian Perspectives brings together a wide range of current work on literary, cultural and linguistic censorship by a team of fifteen contributors working in Italy, Britain and continental Europe. Censorship can take hold of a written text before or after its public appearance; it can strike the cultural item, as well as the very individual/s who created it; it can also catch in its net the agents responsible for its publication and diffusion (in the case of a printed text, authors, editors, printers, publishers, librarians and booksellers). It can be directed against a single person or against a group, an organization, a political party, or a religious confession. The different “ways of censorship” – how it was enforced or eluded in the Italian or Anglo-American worlds, and often in their mutual relations – are the topic of this volume, whose contents are divided into two main sections. The first, entitled “Discourse Regulation”, discusses instances of institutionalized and regulatory censorship and, conversely, forms of reaction against pressure and control. The second section, entitled “Textual and Ideological Manipulations”, debates some of the ways in which cultural products can be used to exert censorial influence upon society; among these, it shows how language and descriptions of language may provide a biased view of reality. All in all, the chapters in this volume highlight a notion of censorship that defies strict boundaries and definitions, thus challenging received ideas on cultural practices.
