Book Transforming Mission Paradigm Shifts in Theology of Mission

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "David Bosch's Transforming Mission, now available in over a dozen languages, is widely recognized as an historic and magisterial contribution to the study of mission. Examining the entire sweep of Christian tradition, he shows how five paradigms have historically encapsulated the Christian understanding of mission and then outlines the characteristics of an emerging postmodern paradigm dialectically linking the transcendent and imminent dimensions of salvation. In this new anniversary edition, Darrel Guder and Martin Reppenhagen explore the impact of Bosch s work and the unfolding application of his seminal vision." --

Book The Evolution of Rationality

Download or read book The Evolution of Rationality written by F. LeRon Shults and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2006-11-09 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can science and religion move together toward a collegial future? J. Wentzel van Huyssteen has spent decades developing an interdisciplinary platform for the fruitful engagement of science and religion. Compiled to celebrate van Huyssteen's 65th birthday, The Evolution of Rationalitygathers a stellar roster of scholars in van Huyssteen's main areas of philosophy, science, and theology. The contributors -- some of them Gifford lecturers and Templeton Prize winners -- offer significant new methodological and material proposals, giving evidence of van Huyssteen's impact on the shape and texture of interdisciplinary conversation itself. Their essays are arranged in three parts: modern and postmodern philosophical challenges to our understanding of rationality scientific, evolutionary perspectives on the nature and development of human rationality in relation to religion religious and theological explorations of the evolution of rationality However, because the authors are all involved in interdisciplinary dialogue, this philosophical-scientific-theological arrangement of chapters is not hard and fast. Virtually every essay engages issues that overlap all three fields, forming an extremely rich blend of thought. A creative interdisciplinary collection written by world-renowned philosophers, scientists, and theologians, The Evolution of Rationality renders fitting tribute to pioneering scholar-mentor J. Wentzel van Huyssteen. Contributors: John Hedley Brooke Delwin Brown Philip Clayton Jean Clottes F. W. Book The Structure of Theological Revolutions

Download or read book The Structure of Theological Revolutions written by Mark S. Massa SJ and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-02 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 29, 1968, Pope Paul VI ended years of discussion and study by Catholic theologians and bishops by issuing an encyclical on human sexuality and birth control entitled Humanae Vitae: "On Human Life." That document, which declared that "each and every marriage act must remain open to the transmission of life," lead to widespread dissent and division within the Church, particularly in the United States. The divide that Humanae Vitae opened up is still with us today. Mark Massa argues that American Catholics did not simply ignore and dissent from the encyclical's teachings on birth control, but that they also began to question the entire system of natural law theology that had undergirded Catholic thought since the days of Aquinas. Natural law is central to Catholic theology, as some of its most important teachings on issues such as birth control, marriage, and abortion rest on natural law arguments. Drawing inspiration from Thomas Kuhn's classic work The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Massa argues that Humanae Vitae caused a paradigm shift in American Catholic thought, one that has had far-reaching repercussions. How can theology-the study of God, whose nature is imagined to be eternal and unchanging- change over time? This is the essential question that The Structure of Theological Revolutions sets out to answer. Massa makes the controversial claim that Roman Catholic teaching on a range of important issues is considerably more provisional and arbitrary than many Catholics think.

Book Thought Experiments Science and Theology

Download or read book Thought Experiments Science and Theology written by Yiftach Fehige and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did Adam have a navel? Did Adam and Eve have sex? Is God merely a fictional character, like Superman? Without thought experiments like these, the field of science and religion would be severely impoverished. Thought experiments are exercises of the imagination. Like in many other disciplines, the imagination has not received the attention it deserves in theology. This book argues that the imagination must be taken seriously as an engine for progress. It offers a theology of the imagination that is consistent with, and goes beyond, existing discussions about pluralism at the intersection of science and religion.

Book Scripture in the Theologies of W Pannenberg and D G Bloesch

Download or read book Scripture in the Theologies of W Pannenberg and D G Bloesch written by Frank M. Hasel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scripture has always played an important role in Christian theology. This study provides an issue oriented overview of the concepts of Scripture in Protestant theology from the 16th century Reformation onward. It then sets forth the concepts of Scripture in the theologies of two contemporary systematic theologians: W. Pannenberg and D. G. Bloesch. It analyzes, compares and evaluates the theological and anthropological presuppositions that have influenced their concept of Scripture. Despite fundamentally different starting points and other significant distinctions Pannenberg and Bloesch reveal surprising similarities. This seems to suggest that for both the concept of Scripture is determined ultimately by presuppositions that are derived and shaped extra scripturam".

Book Steiner Marx and a New Paradigm

Download or read book Steiner Marx and a New Paradigm written by Vladislav Stanko and published by Booksurge Publishing. This book was released on 2007-04-26 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we put together what cannot be put together? Steiner and Marx? The author has done this and has disclosed a fascinating new view of the world and a man in the world. He has formulated a new paradigm and a deep-rooted unity of materialism and idealism, religion and science, inner Christianity and entrepreneurship. However, this book is not just an underwhelming philosophical essay; it is a path to initiation - not just a mystical one through mere idleness, but an initiation via responsibility for the improvement of the material conditions of human life on Earth. Moreover, the author has succeeded in bringing a system to philosophy again after a long period of time. The book deals with developing 'technical organisms' and the future position of the transformed human towards such organisms corresponding to the position of the highest spiritual beings, towards humans at the time of their creation. The relationship between our spiritual evolution and technological progress is a crucial moment in this book.
