Book Fluid Structure Interaction II

Download or read book Fluid Structure Interaction II written by Hans-Joachim Bungartz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid-structure interactions (FSI), i.e., the interplay of some moveable or deformable structure with an internal or surrounding fluid, are among the most widespread and most challenging coupled or multi-physics problems. Although much has been accomplished in developing good computational FSI methods and despite convincing solutions to a number of classes of problems including those presented in this book, there is a need for more comprehensive studies showing that the computational methods proposed are reliable, robust, and efficient beyond the classes of problems they have successfully been applied to.This volume of LNCSE, a sequel to vol. 53, which contained, among others, the first numerical benchmark for FSI problems and has received considerable attention since then, presents a collection of papers from the "First International Workshop on Computational Engineering - special focus FSI," held in Herrsching in October 2009 and organized by three DFG-funded consortia. The papers address all relevant aspects of FSI simulation and discuss FSI from the mathematical, informatical, and engineering perspective.

Book Frontiers in Computational Fluid Structure Interaction and Flow Simulation

Download or read book Frontiers in Computational Fluid Structure Interaction and Flow Simulation written by Tayfun E. Tezduyar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational fluid-structure interaction and flow simulation are challenging research areas that bring solution and analysis to many classes of problems in science, engineering, and technology. Young investigators under the age of 40 are conducting much of the frontier research in these areas, some of which is highlighted in this book. The first author of each chapter took the lead role in carrying out the research presented. The topics covered include Computational aerodynamic and FSI analysis of wind turbines, Simulating free-surface FSI and fatigue-damage in wind-turbine structural systems, Aorta flow analysis and heart valve flow and structure analysis, Interaction of multiphase fluids and solid structures, Computational analysis of tire aerodynamics with actual geometry and road contact, and A general-purpose NURBS mesh generation method for complex geometries. This book will be a valuable resource for early-career researchers and students — not only those interested in computational fluid-structure interaction and flow simulation, but also other fields of engineering and science, including fluid mechanics, solid mechanics and computational mathematics – as it will provide them with inspiration and guidance for conducting their own successful research. It will also be of interest to senior researchers looking to learn more about successful research led by those under 40 and possibly offer collaboration to these researchers.

Book Coupled Fluid structure Interaction Modeling of a Parafoil

Download or read book Coupled Fluid structure Interaction Modeling of a Parafoil written by Brandon Burnett and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summer of 2014, Performance Designs, Inc. contacted Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Eagle Flight Research Center to lead an investigation on square parachute design and optimization using modern computational methods to reduce costs in experimental testing. This thesis investigates the foundation for using an implicit fluid-structure interaction computational model to tackle the challenges of modeling a highly-flexible, porous fabric for design optimization of a parafoil parachute's transient performance. Canopy deformations of a single-cell square parafoil using a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) model with nonlinear material modeling is compared to an experimental setup of matching geometry. The results of this thesis yielded a partial match of 24% between the experimental and FSI model deformations and thus asserts that fluid-structural model using ANSYS Multiphysics can be used to model square parachutes.

Book Advanced Structural Modeling for Fully Coupled Parachute Dynamics

Download or read book Advanced Structural Modeling for Fully Coupled Parachute Dynamics written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this project has been to advance the state-of-the-art in performing fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations of parachute systems. This capability is being used by the Army to evaluate the dynamic behavior of new and existing airdrop systems. Airdrop systems have traditionally been designed using semi-empirical methods supplemented by extensive testing, which is time consuming and expensive. Computer simulation provides a cost effective alternative to this approach. FSI simulations of airdrop systems require coupling of computational structural and fluid dynamics models. These simulations are very computationally intensive and therefore parallel computational methods are essential. Specifics objectives addressed under this project focused on both the structural mechanics and parallel requirements; the required fluid dynamics component has been performed collaboratively at Rice University under a separate effort. The project accomplishments are classified into the following three general areas that are described in detail in this report: 1. Development of parallel structural algorithms required for FSI simulations 2. Development of new structural mechanics theory for modeling airdrop systems 3. Performance of large-scale computer simulations of Army airdrop systems.

Book A Computational Model that Couples Aerodynamic and Structural Dynamic Behavior of Parachutes During the Opening Process

Download or read book A Computational Model that Couples Aerodynamic and Structural Dynamic Behavior of Parachutes During the Opening Process written by Keith R. Stein and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In parachute research, the canopy inflation process in the least understood and most complex to model. Unfortunately, it is during the opening process that the canopy often experiences the largest deformations and loadings. The complexity of modelling the opening process stems from the coupling between the structural dynamics of the canopy, lines and payload with the aerodynamics of the surrounding fluid medium. The addition of a computational capability to model the coupled opening behavior would greatly assist in the understanding of the canopy inflation process.

Book Numerical Simulations of Coupled Problems in Engineering

Download or read book Numerical Simulations of Coupled Problems in Engineering written by Sergio R. Idelsohn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents and discusses mathematical models, numerical methods and computational techniques used for solving coupled problems in science and engineering. It takes a step forward in the formulation and solution of real-life problems with a multidisciplinary vision, accounting for all of the complex couplings involved in the physical description. Simulation of multifaceted physics problems is a common task in applied research and industry. Often a suitable solver is built by connecting together several single-aspect solvers into a network. In this book, research in various fields was selected for consideration: adaptive methodology for multi-physics solvers, multi-physics phenomena and coupled-field solutions, leading to computationally intensive structural analysis. The strategies which are used to keep these problems computationally affordable are of special interest, and make this an essential book.
