When that beginning shall have come, the government will cheerfully hear sug gestions from any quarter calculated to reassure the restoration of tranquillity, peace, and constitutional domestic government in Mexico; but until we shall be able to refer to such a beginning any proceedings towards negotiation would only tend to confound public Opinion in the United States, and to render the situation of Mexico more complicated. Book Guide to Materials for the History of the United States in the Principal Archives of Mexico Classic Reprint

Download or read book Guide to Materials for the History of the United States in the Principal Archives of Mexico Classic Reprint written by Herbert Eugene Bolton and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Guide to Materials for the History of the United States in the Principal Archives of Mexico Mr. Bolton's book should be conceived of and judged as a part of a series, the sum total of which represents a systematic endeavor, by the Department of Historical Research of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, to make more available for students the materials for the history of the United States which are contained in foreign archives. In developing this systematic endeavor, the first step in the natural order, if one wishes to serve the interests of as large a number of historical scholars and societies as possible, is to make a general examination of each important foreign archive, and to present a general guide to the material which each is found to contain for the history of the United States. Of the series of manuals which the complete execution of such a project would require, the Institution has already published several: one for the Cuban archives, by Mr. Perez (1907); a brief one for Spain, by Professor Shepherd (1907); one for the archives of Great Britain, by Professor Andrews and Miss Davenport (1908), to be followed in the present year or in the year next succeeding by three other volumes, two of them prepared by Professor Andrews, and the other by Dr. Paullin and Mr. Paxson; a manual for the Roman and other Italian archives, by Professor Fish (1911); one for the German state archives, by Professor Learned (1912); and one for the Canadian archives, by Mr. Parker, to appear in 1913. The archives of Paris, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Sweden are in the course of similar treatment. Opinions might differ as to the relative importance to American history of the deposits preserved in these various archives. It will not be disputed, however, that few if any of them have been so little explored by historical students in the United States as the archives of the republic next to the south of us; and this despite the long duration, the wide variety, and at times the high importance of our relations to that land. Accordingly the preparation of a Guide to Materials for the History of the United States in the Principal Archives of Mexico had a high place among the projects early contemplated by the department. The preparation of this guide by Professor Bolton has been embarrassed by numerous unexpected delays on his part and on that of the department, and for this the department may add its apologies and regrets to those which have been expressed by him. Yet it should be said that the delays have not prevented its having already served several investigators. The most extensive aid was that given from Mr. Bolton's notes to Mr. Irving B. Richman, in the preparation of his California under Spain and Mexico. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Mexican and Central American Antiquities Calendar Systems and History

Download or read book Mexican and Central American Antiquities Calendar Systems and History written by Eduard Seler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mexican and Central American Antiquities, Calendar Systems, and History: Twenty-Four Papers For a number of years English - speaking students of aboriginal American history have given much attention to the archeology and especially to the glyphic writing of the semicivilized peoples of middle America. Researches relating to the latter subject are of exceptional importance, not-only because of their bearing on native history, but on account of their application to the problems of the origin and development of writing in general. Investigations regard ing the American glyphic system have been greatly stimulated in recent years by kindred researches in various parts of the world, and more especially by the remarkable results achieved by Egyptologists, who, through the discovery of the Rosetta stone, have been able to present to the world historic treasures of the greatest value. Although there is no prospect that an American Rosetta stone will be found, since only one well-advanced system of writing had developed in the New World, the present investigations alongthis line are well worth the attention of the American Government. Those papers are preceded by one containing geographical and recent statistical in formation on Mexico, that I have not seen collected in any single book in the English language. Book Index of Publications Articles and Maps Relating to Mexico in the War Department Library Classic Reprint

Download or read book Index of Publications Articles and Maps Relating to Mexico in the War Department Library Classic Reprint written by United States War Department and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Index of Publications, Articles and Maps Relating to Mexico, in the War Department Library This finding list of titles of publications in the War Department Library relating to Mexico results primarily from difficulties experienced from time to time in locating Mexican data required for official purposes. The catalogues of this library having been in part printed in alphabetical form on the author system, and in part arranged on the card system, have made it necessary heretofore to search through a series of catalogues and appendixes, with great loss of time and an uncertainty as to whether any particular publication would be eventually found. The Library of the War Department has an almost unbroken file of Governmental publications in all the various Executive Departments in addition to its Congressional publications, which are complete from the Thirteenth Congress. Under these conditions it seemed advisable to pre pare a finding list which should cover all publications relating to Mexico in this library, and to put it in such permanent form that it would be of abiding value to the Army, to the War Department, and also to such libraries of the country as might have large collections of Government documents upon their shelves. It is but justice to acknowledge an indebtedness to Mr. David Fitz Gerald, the Librarian of the War Department, for his activity in the past in accumulating works relative to Mexico, and to recognize the fund of accurate knowledge he has acquired as to their contents and relative value. It should be borne in mind that this finding list is not a complete bibliography of works pertaining to Mexico, but it is believed that there are missing very few articles or publications that have appeared in'the United States, either in serial form or as publications of the Government. It seemed advisable to divide the finding list into four parts, so that such special subjects as Inter-oceanic Canals and Railroads (part the Mexi can War of 1846 - 48 and T exan-mexican War (part and the French Intervention, or Maximilian Period (part might be more conveniently consulted by officers of the Army and others interested in these special topics. Bandelier and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Historical Documents Relating to New Mexico, Nueva Vizcaya and Approaches Thereto, to 1773, Vol. 1 In 1910 Dr. Adolph F. A. Bandelier published his Documentary History of the Rio Grande Pueblos: Bibliographic Introduction.' In this intro duction Dr. Bandelier outlined his plan for a proposed larger work con cerning the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico. In pursuance of this plan, and under a grant made by the trustees of the Carnegie Institution of Washington in October, 1911, he spent parts of the years 1912 and 1913 in research in the Archivo General in Mexico City.2 In the latter part of 1913, under the same grant continued, Dr. And Mrs. Bandelier went to Spain to search in the Archivo de Indias at Seville for further materials concerning the Pueblo Indians. At the time Dr. Bandelier was in, bad health, and his own work in those archives continued only till December 18, but under his direction Mrs. Bandelier made researches and copied documents designated by him. On March 18, 1914, Dr. Bandelier died in Seville, before he had been able to accomplish more than a minor part of the work which he had undertaken. Mrs. Bandelier, however, con tinned until the end of 1915, under the auspices of the Institution, the work of research and of copying documents in the archives. The entire collection of transcripts made both in Mexico and in Spain was then turned over by her to the Institution. The materials thus delivered consist of two distinct parts, a bound volume of about five hundred pages and a collection of unbound tran scripts amounting In all to some nine hundred pages. The bound volume contains seventy-two transcripts made by Dr. And Mrs. Bandelier in Mexico City in 1912 and 1913. About half of these, however, are copies or extracts from printed books, evidently made for subsidiary use in the future; the rest are transcripts of documents in the Archivo General in Mexico City. The nine hundred pages of unbound transcripts were all made in Seville. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
