Book Geoinformatics and Atmospheric Science

Download or read book Geoinformatics and Atmospheric Science written by Tomasz Niedzielski and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-09-09 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents recent developments in atmospheric sciences driven by numerical modeling which makes use of geospatial technologies and increasing computational power. It gathers examples of how geoinformatics supports meteorological, climatological and water-related studies. One of the most important features of geospatial technologies is that they provide methods and tools which may be utilized in real time or near real time in order to monitor and predict atmospheric processes. This is particularly crucial in areas where dynamics of atmospheric phenomena is considerable and causes difficulties in accurate forecasting. One of such areas is the transitional zone between oceanic and continental features of the mid-latitude climate. Good examples of investigations into the transitional zone come from Poland and its neighboring countries. The topical volume provides the reader with a selection of papers on physically-based and data-based modelling of weather-related phenomena over Poland. This main theme of the topical volume is extended to cover case studies on the use of geoinformatics in atmospheric studies in other regions at a range of spatial scales.

Book Geophysics and the IGY

    Book Details:
  • Author : United States. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year
  • Publisher : American Geophysical Union
  • Release : 1958
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Geophysics and the IGY written by United States. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1958 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 2. The present volume assembles a group of papers covering a wide variety of topics in geophysics. These papers were presented at a special symposium, June 28 and 29, 1957, conducted by the U.S. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year just before the IGY program formally began. The papers are not only of general and historical interest, but many of them contain reports on early results of the IGY. Although the IGY formally began on July 1, 1957, a number of our own projects had been initiated considerably before that time; moreover, certain geophysical research which formed the basis for the IGY departure is also encompassed in this volume. Finally, the papers provide not only the status of our projects at the beginning of the IGY but often present reviews of the general status of a discipline. For all of these reasons, the Committee believes that the present volume may be of value to geophysicists broadly.

Book Meteorology at the Millennium

Download or read book Meteorology at the Millennium written by Royal Meteorological Society (Great Britain) and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meteorology at the Millennium details recent advances in meteorology and explores its interfaces with science, technology, and society. Ways in which modern meteorology is contributing to the developments in other sciences are described, as well as how atmospheric scientists are learning from colleagues in related disciplines. Meteorology at the Millennium will serve as a point of reference for students and researchers of meteorology and climatology for many years to come. The areas covered include weather prediction at the millennium, climate variability and change, atmosphere-ocean coupling, the biogeochemical system, weather on other planets. This book is a compilation of the best invited papers presented at a conference celebrating the 150 years of the Royal Meteorological Society (RMS).
