Book Dualities and Representations of Lie Superalgebras

Download or read book Dualities and Representations of Lie Superalgebras written by Shun-Jen Cheng and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a systematic account of the structure and representation theory of finite-dimensional complex Lie superalgebras of classical type and serves as a good introduction to representation theory of Lie superalgebras. Several folklore results are rigorously proved (and occasionally corrected in detail), sometimes with new proofs. Three important dualities are presented in the book, with the unifying theme of determining irreducible characters of Lie superalgebras. In order of increasing sophistication, they are Schur duality, Howe duality, and super duality. The combinatorics of symmetric functions is developed as needed in connections to Harish-Chandra homomorphism as well as irreducible characters for Lie superalgebras. Schur-Sergeev duality for the queer Lie superalgebra is presented from scratch with complete detail. Howe duality for Lie superalgebras is presented in book form for the first time. Super duality is a new approach developed in the past few years toward understanding the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand category of modules for classical Lie superalgebras. Super duality relates the representation theory of classical Lie superalgebras directly to the representation theory of classical Lie algebras and thus gives a solution to the irreducible character problem of Lie superalgebras via the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of classical Lie algebras.

Download or read book Boron Hydrides written by William N. Lipscomb and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this classic monograph, Nobel Prize–winning chemist William N. Lipscomb elucidates his area of expertise: the general structural principles and reactions of boron hydrides and related compounds. Lipscomb's work appeared only a decade after the structures of boron hydrides were first elucidated and their chemistry formulated into a widely applicable framework. His observations led to a major reconsideration of how atoms bond to form stable molecules. A concise treatment of the many separate parts of the structural theory and its relation to chemistry, this volume begins with an overview of boron hydrides and related structures, progressing to three-center bonds and their applications, molecular orbitals, nuclear magnetic resonance studies of boron hydrides and related compounds, and reactions of the boron hydrides. More than 120 diagrams and figures illustrate a variety of structures.

Download or read book Magnetic Molecular Materials written by D. Gatteschi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major challenges of science in the last few years of the second millennium is learning how to design materials which can fulfill specific tasks. Ambitious as it may be, the possibilities of success are not ne~li~ble provided that all the different expertises merge to overcome the limits of eXIsting disciplines and forming new paradigms science. The NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Magnetic Molecular Materials" was organized with the above considerations in mind in order to determine which are the most appropriate synthetic strategies, experimental techniques of investigation, and theoretical models which are needed in order to develop new classes of magnetic materials which are based on molecules rather than on metallic or ionic lattices. Why molecules? The answer may be obvious: molecular chemistry in principle fine can tune the structures and the properties of complex aggregates, and nature already provides a large number of molecular aggregates which can perform the most disparate functions. The contributions collected in this book provide a rather complete view of the current research accomplishments of magnetic molecular materials. There are several different synthetic approaches which are followed ranging from purely organic to inorganic materials. Some encouraging successes have already been achieved, even if the critical temperatures below which magnetic order is observed still are in the range requiring liquid helium.

Book Silicon Based Polymers

Download or read book Silicon Based Polymers written by François Ganachaud and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-09 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon Based Polymers presents highlights in advanced research and technological innovations using macromolecular organosilicon compounds and systems, as presented in the 2007 ISPO congress. Silicon-containing materials and polymers are used all over the world and in a variety of industries, domestic products and high technology applications. Among them, silicones are certainly the most well–known, however there are still new properties discovered and preparative processes developed all the time, therefore adding to their potential. Less known, but in preparation for the future, are other silicon containing-polymers which are now close to maturity and in fact some are already available like polysilsesquioxanes and polysilanes. All these silicon based materials can adopt very different structures like chains, dendrimers, hyperbranched and networks, physical and chemical gels. The result is a vast array of materials with applications in various areas such as optics, electronics, ionic electrolytes, liquid crystals, biomaterials, ceramics and concrete, paints and coatings ... all needed to face the environmental, energetical and technological issues of today. Some industrial aspects of the applications of these materials will also be presented.

Book Polymer Blends

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ezio Martuscelli
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 1980
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 536 pages

Download or read book Polymer Blends written by Ezio Martuscelli and published by Springer. This book was released on 1980 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multicomponent polymeric systems, or polymeric blends, have recently created considerable interest and they represent a new and important challenge for research. These systems have already become technologically important, but the prospects for their applications have by no means been exhausted. For thermodynamic reasons polymer blends do not usually form homogeneous mixtures but exhibit micro or macrophase separation. This incompatibility has some inherent advantages as varying the composition and the processing conditions, materials with different structures and morphologies can be obtained whose properties may be superior to those of one of the components e. g. high impact resistant plastics. Investigations of multicomponent polymer systems constitute a new branch of macromolecular science which now claims as much interest as the behaviour of dilute solutions, crystallization, statistics of chain~~ tacticity, and single crystal formation did a few years ago. The complexity of the problems related to control led preparation and properties studies of mUlticomponent polymer systems is such that it is often more practicable to conduct them on an international basis. The aim of the first Joint Italian-Polish Seminar on Multicomponent Polymer Systems was to discuss recent results obtained in that field in both countries. As the range of topics to be covered was fairly wide, we thought it advisable to invite scientists from other countries to share with us some aspects of their own studies.

Book Organic Solid State Chemistry

Download or read book Organic Solid State Chemistry written by Gautam R. Desiraju and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1987 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the growing recognition that many organic reactions may be conducted easily in the solid state and that organic solids may have unique optical/electronic properties, there has been much interest - in both academia and industry - in the subject of organic solid state chemistry. This book provides, for the first time, a coherent, unified view of the subject. It describes the packing of molecular crystals and how this packing influences chemical reactions in the solid state. It is concerned with various means of studying the chemistry and physics of molecules in constrained environments. Both experimental and theoretical approaches are discussed. Finally, it tackles the question of prediction of crystal packing, or crystal engineering'. The strength of the book lies in the twin approach adopted, namely that both conceptual and comprehensive chapters are present, in almost equal numbers.
