Book excerpt: As far back as I can remember, my Dad seemed to have the ability to do anything. He was my Superman. One of the things he enjoyed most was cooking and baking for his family and friends. I think it was one of his greatest passions. That is what makes this book so special. Daddy made everything special, from every day dinners, to family holidays. Creating this book was something my Dad always dreamed of. He wrote his recipes down for his family so we would have them and keep our traditions for generations to come. I have compiled these wonderful delights in a cookbook dedicated to him. I think my Dad would smile knowing that someone who loved to cook or someone just beginning to learn, can share special times with their family serving one of his favorites. He was the best Dad and Papa anyone could have. We will all miss him, and love him always....Linda Randazzo

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is exactly what it says, Recipes of Yesteryear (all are twenty-five years or older). All the recipes came from my family, friends, and companies I worked with. Before I make any other comments, let me answer a question that I usually get asked. "Have you made all the recipes in the book?" And the answer is "Yes." All but one. The book was inspired by my family and friends. Many would tell me to do a cookbook because I loved to cook. So I gave in, and here is a book of at least 150 recipes going from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are also so many other recipes for dressings, some desserts, soups, salads, and many other areas of possible interest. All the primary recipes are made to serve from four to six people. Now, my recipes are designed as a guide for you, as being your own cook you can make changes if you want. This is really what cooking is all about. My belief that I have had through the years is when meals are cooked at home, they are made with love and are truly blessed from above.

Download or read book RECIPES CHANGE written by Michael Sabella and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-05-12 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are classical recipes that never change, cutting-edge recipes that are trendy, and then there are family recipes. Family recipes are handed down from generation to generation, but do they remain the same? Not always! Follow five generations of a Sicilian family through over one hundred years of cooking-mostly truth with a few fun, tall tales and a little pure fiction mixed in. Their story begins as fishermen in Sciacca, Sicily, during a time of turmoil. Luciano and his brothers took the twelve-dollar journey in the unsanitary steerage class aboard the Iniziativa, which left Naples in January 1890 bound for New York and crossed the states to San Francisco. It did not take Luciano long to learn that the streets were not "paved with gold," but he worked hard and fished the San Francisco Bay and eventually helped his son, Antonino, open one of the first restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf. Recipes evolved over generations due to the availability of ingredients, social events, nutritional awareness, trends, and culinary tools. What was delicious in 1950 might be considered too calorie-dense in 1980. Over 150 family recipes through five generations reflect those changes while respecting the original heart and soul of each one.

  • Pages : 478 pages

Download or read book Chicano Eats written by Esteban Castillo and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creator of the popular Chicano Eats blog and winner of the Saveur Best New Voice People’s Choice Award takes us on a delicious tour through the diverse flavors and foods of Chicano cuisine—Mexican food with an immigrant sensibility that weaves seamlessly between Mexican and American genres and cultures. Esteban Castillo grew up in Santa Ana, California, where more than three-quarters of the population is Latino. Because Mexican food was the foundation of his childhood, he was surprised to see recipes for dishes on popular food blogs that were anything but the traditional meals he grew up eating. He was inspired to create the blog, Chicano Eats, to showcase his love for design, cooking, and culture and provide a space for authentic Latino voices, recipes, and stories to be heard. Building on his blog, Chicano Eats is a bicultural cookbook that includes 85 traditional and fusion Mexican recipes as gorgeous to look at as they are sublime to eat. Chicano cuisine is Mexican food made by Chicanos (Mexican Americans) that has been shaped by the communities in the U.S. where they grew up. It is Mexican food that bisects borders and uses a group of traditional ingredients—chiles, beans, tortillas, corn, and tomatillos—and techniques while boldly incorporating many exciting new twists, local ingredients, and influences from other cultures and regions in the United States. Chicano Eats is packed with easy, flavorful recipes such as: Chicken con Chochoyotes (Chicken and Corn Masa Dumplings) Mac and Queso Fundido Birria (Beef Stew with a Guajillo Chile Broth) Toasted Coconut Horchata Chorizo-Spiced Squash Tacos Champurrado Chocolate Birthday Cake (Inspired by the Mexican drink made with milk and chocolate and thickened with corn masa) Cherry Lime Chia Agua Fresca Accompanied by more than 100 bright, modern photographs, Chicano Eats is a melting pot of delicious and nostalgic recipes, a literal blending of cultures through food that offer a taste of home for Latinos and introduces familiar flavors and ingredients in a completely different and original way for Americans of all ethnic heritages.

Book My Fat Dad

Download or read book My Fat Dad written by Dawn Lerman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the New York Times Well Blog series, My Fat Dad Every story and every memory from my childhood is attached to food… Dawn Lerman spent her childhood constantly hungry. She craved good food as her father, 450 pounds at his heaviest, pursued endless fad diets, from Atkins to Pritikin to all sorts of freeze-dried, saccharin-laced concoctions, and insisted the family do the same—even though no one else was overweight. Dawn’s mother, on the other hand, could barely be bothered to eat a can of tuna over the sink. She was too busy ferrying her other daughter to acting auditions and scolding Dawn for cleaning the house (“Whom are you trying to impress?”). It was chaotic and lonely, but Dawn had someone she could turn to: her grandmother Beauty. Those days spent with Beauty, learning to cook, breathing in the scents of fresh dill or sharing the comfort of a warm pot of chicken soup, made it all bearable. Even after Dawn’s father took a prestigious ad job in New York City and moved the family away, Beauty would send a card from Chicago every week—with a recipe, a shopping list, and a twenty-dollar bill. She continued to cultivate Dawn’s love of wholesome food, and ultimately taught her how to make her own way in the world—one recipe at a time. In My Fat Dad, Dawn reflects on her colorful family and culinary-centric upbringing, and how food shaped her connection to her family, her Jewish heritage, and herself. Humorous and compassionate, this memoir is an ode to the incomparable satisfaction that comes with feeding the ones you love.

Here, at last, is her first cookbook, with all the recipes from her acclaimed show--and most can be made in under thirty minutes! In Daisy Martinez's kitchen, salsa music is always playing. Laughter fills the air, along with delicious aromas of the amazing meal to come. Friends, neighbors, and family members are ever-present, sneaking tastes from every pot. And in the center of it all, Daisy is laughing, singing, tasting, and appreciating everything that her kitchen--and life!--has to offer. Does this sound like your kitchen? If not, don't despair. In this book and on her acclaimed national public television series, Daisy Cooks!, Daisy teaches you how to bring excitement back to the table with Latin-inspired food that your friends and family will love! Some of these recipes will remind you of meals you've enjoyed in restaurants. Some are great variations on dishes you already cook. Some are totally new. All of them will rock your world. Daisy's flavorful, satisfying interpretation of the best dishes from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Central and South America all taste like the results of a day in the kitchen--but in reality, most take only thirty minutes to prepare. Here, you'll find the techniques that Daisy learned at the French Culinary Institute, along with her mother's and grandmother's time-tested tricks! This winning combination results in dishes that range from elegant Chicken Braised with Figs to soul-satisfying Cuban Black Bean Soup to to-die-for homemade Dulce de Leche. And then, of course, there are Daisy's "Top Ten Hits"--the recipes that, once you try them, are guaranteed to change the way you cook forever. In this first chapter, Daisy shows how simple flavor boosters, in addition to a few easy techniques, can make every meal mouthwateringly special. In Daisy's words, "If you can season, cook, and dress pork chops and serve them alongside fragrant yellow rice in less than thirty minutes, I can't imagine why you'd eat anything from a cardboard carton!" With ingredients that are found in almost every supermarket, equipment that every kitchen contains, and a little bit of adventurousness on your part, the recipes in this book will transform your mealtimes for good. So jump right in--it's time to get Daisy-fied!
