Book Ponderings During the Pandemic

Download or read book Ponderings During the Pandemic written by Yvonne Hall and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-20 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time of the COVID-19 Pandemic was a time of quarantine and isolation for many people, causing much loneliness and sadness. As an Associate Minister and a member of a few ministries in my church, I felt led to try to bring some encouragement and inspiration to the members of these ministries. And so, with the aid and anointing of the Holy Spirit, I began frequently sending these short messages to the ministries via e-mail. Those messages have resulted in the compilation of this present work. They are my thoughts, reflections, musings, and meditations during the year-long period of quarantine, isolation and restrictions. However, the majority of these reflections are not merely my thoughts, but they are scripturally based, backed by the Word of God. Some of them may be considered Sermonettes. For example, let's take a look at one of the readings dated April 1, 2020 and entitled "In the Valley." Psalm 23:4 says "Yea though I walk through the valley and the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Because of this Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are most certainly in a valley right now. Sickness and death are all around us. Nevertheless, the operative phrase in this verse is: "THROUGH THE VALLEY" with emphasis on the word, "THROUGH." Yes the situation seems dark right now; it's frightening and scary, but it's also temporary. We shall not stay in this valley. We can put our CONFIDENCE in the Lord of the valley, believe that He will lead us THROUGH this valley. Also, we are not alone in this valley, for the Lord of the valley is with us. He is our COMPANY-KEEPER, and if we can look away from the scary shadows and focus on the company-keeper, the author and finisher of our faith, He will keep us by His grace and mercy, and we know that His grace is sufficient, and His mercy endures forever. Finally, this verse not only gives us confidence and a company-keeper, but it promises COMFORT, and this comfort comes from the Lord of the valley's Rod and His staff--the Written Word and the Living Word. The Written Word (the Bible) with its promises of provision and protection is our source of comfort, and the Living Word, who is Jesus, our Shepherd, leads us THROUGH this valley. "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He will strengthen our heart. WAIT, I SAY, ON THE LORD!" (Psalm 27:14). In April of 2020, many folk were becoming so anxious, so devastated, and actually fearful of what was happening, I was led to try to help people understand that they were not alone, and that they would get through it in God's time. Although, at this writing, we are almost completely through that valley, it is my prayer that these readings will continue to strengthen you and comfort you in any other "valley" you may find yourself going through.

Book excerpt: 2020 had just begun...We gathered with friends and family as we had many times before. We watched our children playing happily together without a care in the world. We talked about our plans for the new year. Someone was going on her first cruise. Another was planning a wedding. Her sister had just gotten the lead role in the high school musical. Her cousin's dream of going to the Olympics was about to come true. We passed around pictures and shared memories. Then we piled into our vans and headed to our favorite restaurant. Meanwhile, the clouds were rolling in...The events of this past year have left us, the whole world, reeling, wondering if life will ever get back to normal. No one expected the storm to last this long. Many see it as an interruption rather than as an integral part of our lives. The truth is that God saw it coming. He was not taken by surprise. Even now, He is weaving it into the very fabric of our being. He can use all of life's circumstances as vehicles to draw us closer to Himself. This little book is a reflection of the work He has done in my heart, not only through this pandemic, but through my entire life. I pray that it will be a blessing and an encouragement to all who read it, especially those who wonder if God is there and if He cares.

Book excerpt: The Japanese poetry form of haiku is perfect for capturing moments of time and reflecting on life. Using it to ponder life's deepest questions and universal truth is something poets have been doing for centuries. During the year of 2020, writing haiku each day helped me stay grounded in a world that seemed to be falling apart. It gave me a moment to be present and think about what I value, what is important to me, and how to give back to others. I hope this book does the same and helps you appreciate all the amazing miracles—big and small—that exist in the world. In this book, you will find over 100 haiku and five mini essays centered around Mindfulness, Compassion, Gratitude, Love & Loss, and Give & Forgive. Each chapter ends with questions for your own reflection or inspiration. Feel free to ponder them at your leisure. Your purchase of this book helps support me (Anthony Nanfito) as an independent author, as well as my podcast: The Haiku Pond. The first season of the podcast features selected haiku from this book as well as haiku submitted by other poets. You can listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Book Adrift a Spiritual Journey Back After a Pandemic

Download or read book Adrift a Spiritual Journey Back After a Pandemic written by Alisa Bard and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let's face it, this pandemic, and the quarantines, have us all facing a shift in our belief system in one way or another. Whether you've found yourself drifting further away from God, or desperately calling out to Him, or somewhere in the middle, 2020 is without a doubt going down in history as the year of personal and spiritual challenges for all of us. Alisa started just taking a single verse, sometimes two, in the mornings and trying to ponder on it and apply it to her day. She quickly realized that she is a visual person and started putting a home screen graphic on her phone to represent the truth in the verse I had read that day. We've all heard that 21 days makes a habit, so here are 21 days of those ponderings, along with the home screen graphic to go along with it. From the author: This journey is a testament to the power of God's word. There were days I had no strength. I won't get into the physical ailments I had from stress and anxiety, but they were pretty intense. In the middle of our business failing and our family abandoning us, God provided many miracles. One of those miracles was a job for me. I went on three interviews and landed a goldmine job. God provided that for me. I could not breathe without seeking the Lord before going to work each morning. Literally. And He gave me strength. I sought Him and He gave me strength. Truth.

Book Toward Critical Multimodality

Download or read book Toward Critical Multimodality written by Katarina Silvestri and published by IAP. This book was released on 2023-06-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume seeks to answer the question, “What does it mean to be a critical multimodal scholar in educational spaces?” Toward Critical Multimodality highlights how choices made throughout multimodal design and research processes are critically-oriented and inextricably linked to power. We show how social semiotics and multimodality inform engagement with criticality in educational spaces through questioning dominant narratives (e.g., white, cisheteropatriarchal, ableist, classist perspectives), exploring relationships between selves and space, problematizing and reimagining educational practices, and dreaming of educational futures that are just, anti-oppressive, and with room for all to thrive while learning. These chapters demonstrate how studying multiple modalities in interaction (e.g., image, writing, color, spatial layout, gaze, proxemics, gestures) can reveal how power operates, provide students with opportunities to explore themselves and their identities with respect to power, and provide a vehicle for scholars to disrupt and transform oppressive educational practices. Furthermore, multiple chapters show alternative ways to display, construct and share knowledge as transformative pedagogical practice in learning environments. We reframe social semiotics and multimodality as an integral part of decentering dominant ideas of power and what “counts” as purposeful meaning making by highlighting how criticality and multimodality integrate theoretically and methodologically.

Book Hybrid Learning Spaces

Download or read book Hybrid Learning Spaces written by Einat Gil and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-04 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we have come to accept the duality of physical and virtual learning spaces as a permanent feature of our educational landscape, we begin to question its validity. Is this really a dichotomy, or is it a continuum? Should this be the primary dimension around which we cluster educational experiences - how does it intersect and interact with other axes, such as formal-informal, vocational-recreational, open-closed, teacher-student? How do we adapt, as teachers, learners, designers, policy makers, to this changing landscape? How do we shape it to offer an optimal learning experience? Such questions led us to conduct a series of academic and professional events on the theme of Hybrid Learning Spaces (HLS) - spaces which challenge and defy the dichotomies above. This edited book collates some of the products of that endeavor, offering a multi-vocal, interdisciplinary approach to hybridity in education. It connects practical examples, design directives and theoretical analysis, combining perspectives from technology research and development, educational theory and practice, architecture and space and product design. This book addresses researchers, practitioners, innovators and policy makers in education, technology and design, offering broad perspectives and then distilling practical insights in the form of design principles and patterns, pedagogical models, and predictions of future trends.

Book Pandemic Spotlight

Download or read book Pandemic Spotlight written by Ian Hanomansing and published by Douglas & McIntyre. This book was released on 2021-10-16 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eminent CBC journalist Ian Hanomansing profiles the Canadian doctors who stepped up to guide the nation through its worst medical crisis in a century. Most medical doctors, are accustomed to living lives of quiet dedication far from the public eye. What is it like for conscientious professionals like them when a country panicked by pandemic is suddenly beating down their doors desperate for answers? One of the remarkable features of the Covid-19 pandemic is the strength and compassion of the previously low-profile doctors who took to the public stage to lead the bewildered nation through the pandemic, counteracting misinformation and articulating the most up-to-date medical advice on avoiding infection and reducing viral transmission. British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry attracted international attention for her calm, empathetic and evidence-based approach. Ontario infectious disease specialists Dr. Zain Chagla and Dr. Sumon Chakrabati advocated passionately for effective measures within the South Asian community disproportionately affected by the virus. Dr. Lisa Barrett and her infectious disease colleagues at Dalhousie University lobbied to set up rapid testing in places like bars, sports centres and university campuses in order to detect those unwittingly spreading the virus and to provide an early warning of potential outbreaks. Hanomansing captures the perspective and insights of doctors from coast to coast who accepted roles as public advocates and advisors, exploring the impact of unaccustomed celebrity as well as the skepticism, resistance and even hostility that sometimes went as far as death threats from Covid-deniers. Few of the stories to come out of the pandemic are as inspiring as this one of the doctors, scientists and health officials who transcended their accustomed roles to become public symbols of trust and hope. As they prepare to return to their private careers, they respond to Hanomansing’s invitation to detail lessons learned and measures that need to be taken to improve the response to future deadly pandemics. All author royalties from sales of the book will go to UBC’s Centre for Health Education Scholarship.

Book Handbook of Research on Emerging Pedagogies for the Future of Education Trauma Informed Care and Pandemic Pedagogy

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Emerging Pedagogies for the Future of Education Trauma Informed Care and Pandemic Pedagogy written by Bozkurt, Aras and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-06-04 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic caused educational institutions to close for the safety of students and staff and to aid in prevention measures around the world to slow the spread of the outbreak. Closures of schools and the interruption of education affected billions of enrolled students of all ages, leading to nearly the entire student population to be impacted by these measures. Consequently, this changed the educational landscape. Emergency remote education (ERE) was put into practice to ensure the continuity of education and caused the need to reinterpret pedagogical approaches. The crisis revealed flaws within our education systems and exemplified how unprepared schools were for the educational crisis both in K-12 and higher education contexts. These shortcomings require further research on education and emerging pedagogies for the future. The Handbook of Research on Emerging Pedagogies for the Future of Education: Trauma-Informed, Care, and Pandemic Pedagogy evaluates the interruption of education, reports best-practices, identifies the strengths and weaknesses of educational systems, and provides a base for emerging pedagogies. The book provides an overview of education in the new normal by distilling lessons learned and extracting the knowledge and experience gained through the COVID-19 global crisis to better envision the emerging pedagogies for the future of education. The chapters cover various subjects that include mathematics, English, science, and medical education, and span all schooling levels from preschool to higher education. The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals, researchers, instructional designers, decision-makers, institutions, and most importantly, main-actors from the educational landscape interested in interpreting the emerging pedagogies and future of education due to the pandemic.

This book was released on 2022-03-25 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decades, the development of innovative practices has gained considerable interest. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
