Download or read book Tarot Talismans written by Sandra Tabatha Cicero and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2006 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Chic & Sandra Tabatha Cicero, the tarot is much more than a collection of symbolic images--it's a vibrant ecosystem of interconnected energies and entities. In this groundbreaking approach to tarot, they introduce how these powerful cards can be magically transformed into talismans and amulets. Part one of this book explores the nature of talismans and amulets, how magic works, the role of the divine in magic, and magical ethics. The specific energies and talismanic/amuletic uses of each card are described, along with its magical correspondences--spanning elemental, astrological, and Qabalistic qualities. Part two is devoted to "tarot angels" and invoking these divine energies, including how to use the Golden Dawn method, known as telesmatic magic. Ritual card spreads, consecration rites, and step-by-step examples demonstrate how to use magical talismans to get a promotion, gain psychic talent, promote healing, mend a broken friendship, enhance magic skills, and more.

Download or read book Occurrence and Use of Hallucinogenic Mushrooms Containing Psilocybin Alkaloids written by Christer Andersson and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2009 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In some parts of the world mushrooms have had a central role in religious ritual ceremonies. Ethnomycological studies among the Indian tribes of Mexico - the Aztecs and the Chichimecas - revealed the mushrooms to be hallucinogenic. Chemists from a leading Pharmaceutical company took over, isolated and described the mushroom alkaloid psilocybin, that upon dephosphorylation after collection of the mushroom or in the human body, form psilocin that is the active hallucinogenic compound. For a long time psilocybin/psilocin was expected to become a constituent of psychedelic drugs useful for treatment of specific psychoses. As the effect of psilocybin/psilocin resembles that of LSD the isolated compound, as well as mushrooms containing the compound, became popular among recreational users of hallucinogenic drugs in Western America, and from there the habit of using these mushrooms have spread around the world. Psilocybin/psilocin is legally prohibited in many countries which usually treat the compound as a narcotic drug. Some countries also prohibit the use of some or all psilocybin-containing mushrooms. In this respect, the legal situation differs between Nordic countries. Although psilocybin-containing mushrooms are not what Nordic mushroom pickers are trying to find as food or food supplement, there is a risk, admittedly small, that these mushrooms accidentally will be collected. At the present situation, this may be a legal problem in some Nordic countries. This document aims at identifying when this might be the case without going into legal interpretations.
Download or read book Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities written by Charles Russell Coulter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the divine is the history of human thought. For as long as men and women have pondered the mysteries of their existence, they have answered their own questions with stories of gods and goddesses. Belief in these deities shaped whole civilizations, yet today many of their names and images lie buried. The Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities makes those names available to the general reader as well as the scholar. This reference work lists all the known gods through recorded history. Alphabetically arranged entries provide the name of each deity (with alternate spellings), as well as notes on names that may be linguistically or functionally related. The tribe or culture that worshiped the deity is identified, and the god's origins and functions are explained. An extensive bibliography provides opportunities for further research and an exhaustive index provides access to the entries through virtually all names, forms and kinds of deities.

Download or read book Cupid and Psyche written by Regine May and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-02-24 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apuleius’ tale of Cupid and Psyche has been popular since it was first written in the second century CE as part of his Latin novel Metamorphoses. Often treated as a standalone text, Cupid and Psyche has given rise to treatments in the last 400 years as diverse as plays, masques, operas, poems, paintings and novels, with a range of diverse approaches to the text. Apuleius’ story of the love between the mortal princess Psyche (or “Soul”) and the god of Love has fascinated recipients as varied as Romantic poets, psychoanalysts, children’s books authors, neo-Platonist philosophers and Disney film producers. These readers themselves produced their own responses to and versions of the story. This volume is the first broad consideration of the reception of C&P in Europe since 1600 and an adventurous interdisciplinary undertaking. It is the first study to focus primarily on material in English, though it also ranges widely across literary genres in Italian, French and German, encompassing poetry, drama and opera as well as prose fiction and art history, studied by an international team of established and young scholars. Detailed studies of single works and of whole genres make this book relevant for students of Classics, English, Art History, opera and modern film.
