Book The American Experiment Yesterday Today and Tomorrow

Download or read book The American Experiment Yesterday Today and Tomorrow written by Randall Rush and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out the history of "The American Experiment" in self-government focusing on its original legal documents, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. It discusses how and why such a 'Total Heresy' as self-government ever arose and has survived for nearly 250 years. One focus is on the original genius of the 'Separation of Powers' that has become so muddled since the Framers created the Constitution. The horror of the World Wars and key aspects of the Presidents from Eisenhower through Carter and the two Bushes are summarized. Presidents Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and Trump are discussed in increasing levels of detail. The failures of the Federal Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation beginning with the Enron prosecution are summarized. The issues of the appointment of Supreme Court Justices, immigration, and the rise of socialism/communism in America are discussed in some detail. The failed bloodless coup d'etat and impeachment attempts to remove President Trump from office are discussed in depth as are the climate change debate and the Green New Deal. The geopolitical world from Europe, to Russia, the Middle East, China and North Korea are discussed as they are directly affecting future American freedom. One of the last chapters discusses why western man and specifically America arrived at the pinnacle of civilization while others did not. Finally, the author closes with, "The Only Thing That Matters at the End of the Trail" - a summary of his wishes for not only his descendants, but all the World.

Book Generation Palestine

Book excerpt: The unique model of apartheid, colonization, and military occupation that Israel imposes on the Palestinians, along with myriad violations of international law, have made Palestine the moral cause of a generation. Yet many people continue to ask, "what can we do?"Generation Palestine helps to answer this question by bringing together Palestinian and international activists in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The movement aims to pressure Israel until it complies with International Law, mirroring the model that was successfully utilized against South African apartheid. With essays written by a wide selection of contributors, Generation Palestine follows the BDS movement's model of inclusivity and collaboration. Contributors include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Ken Loach, Iain Banks, Ronnie Kasrils, Professor Richard Falk, Ilan Pappe, Omar Barghouti, Ramzy Baroud, and Archbishop Attallah Hannah, alongside other internationally acclaimed artists, writers, academics, and grassroots activists.

Book excerpt: For outside observers, current events in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank are seldom related to the collective memory of ordinary Palestinians. But for Palestinians themselves, the iniquities of the present are experienced as a continuous replay of the injustice of the past. By focusing on memories of the Nakba or "catastrophe" of 1948, in which hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were dispossessed to create the state of Israel, the contributors to this volume illuminate the contemporary Palestinian experience and clarify the moral claims they make for justice and redress. The book's essays consider the ways in which Palestinians have remembered and organized themselves around the Nakba, a central trauma that continues to be refracted through Palestinian personal and collective memory. Analyzing oral histories and written narratives, poetry and cinema, personal testimony and courtroom evidence, the authors show how the continuing experience of violence, displacement, and occupation have transformed the pre-Nakba past and the land of Palestine into symbols of what has been and continues to be lost. Nakba brings to light the different ways in which Palestinians experienced and retain in memory the events of 1948. It is the first book to examine in detail how memories of Palestine's cataclysmic past are shaped by differences of class, gender, generation, and geographical location. In exploring the power of the past, the authors show the urgency of the question of memory for understanding the contested history of the present. Book God s Country

  • Author : Samuel Goldman

Download or read book God s Country written by Samuel Goldman and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is Israel's closest ally in the world. The fact is undeniable, and undeniably controversial, not least because it so often inspires conspiracy theorizing among those who refuse to believe that the special relationship serves America's strategic interests or places the United States on the right side of Israel's enduring conflict with the Palestinians. Some point to the nefarious influence of a powerful "Israel lobby" within the halls of Congress. Others detect the hand of evangelical Protestants who fervently support Israel for their own theological reasons. The underlying assumption of all such accounts is that America's support for Israel must flow from a mixture of collusion, manipulation, and ideologically driven foolishness. Samuel Goldman proposes another explanation. The political culture of the United States, he argues, has been marked from the very beginning by a Christian theology that views the American nation as deeply implicated in the historical fate of biblical Israel. God's Country is the first book to tell the complete story of Christian Zionism in American political and religious thought from the Puritans to 9/11. It identifies three sources of American Christian support for a Jewish state: covenant, or the idea of an ongoing relationship between God and the Jewish people; prophecy, or biblical predictions of return to The Promised Land; and cultural affinity, based on shared values and similar institutions. Combining original research with insights from the work of historians of American religion, Goldman crafts a provocative narrative that chronicles Americans' attachment to the State of Israel.
