Finally, environmental and other in-stream water demands become more important as economies develop. The river basin has been acknowledged to be the appropriate unit of analysis to address these chanllenges facing water resources management: and modeling at this scale can provide essential information for policy makers in their decisions on allication of resources. This paper reviews the state of the art of modeling approaches to integrated water resources management at the river basin scale, with particular focus on the potential of coupled economic hydrologic models, and concludes with directions for future modeling exercises.

The city's Watershed Protection Program is intended to maintain and enhance the high quality of these surface water sources. Review of the New York City Watershed Protection Program assesses the efficacy and future of New York City's watershed management activities. The report identifies program areas that may require future change or action, including continued efforts to address turbidity and responding to changes in reservoir water quality as a result of climate change.

The study is in a northern New England, USA, forested ecosystem, and focuses on soil and stream hydrological and biogeochemical processes, and chemical responses of vegetation. Relative to the reference watershed, the treated ecosystem has migrated biogeochemically towards N saturation, and soil and stream acidification. Some of the responses to N amendments were not expected nor predicted by available models.

A methodology is proposed for quantification of the socio-economic aspects, which is found effective in measuring the impacts of watershed program on local community. The SWAT hydrological model with ArcView GIS interface has been used to simulate various watershed interventions for water and sediment yields. Statistical analysis like factor and regression modelling is used to establish linkages between livelihoods and hydrological components. The GIS has played an important role in database creation, data processing and analysis. The methodology is employed on three watersheds namely Dudhi micro-watershed, Bewas micro-watershed and Dudhi milli-watershed which fall in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh State in India. The students and practitioners in the area of water resources, hydrology, environment, agriculture, irrigation, rural management and developmental studies will find this book interesting for their academic curricula and research projects.
