Book Paired Associates Learning

Download or read book Paired Associates Learning written by Albert E. Goss and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paired-Associates Learning: The Role of Meaningfulness, Similarity, and Familiarization focuses on the role of meaningfulness, similarity, and familiarization of stimuli in paired-associates (PA) learning. The book illustrates the problems, methods, findings, and theoretical implications of research findings. The book first offers information on scalings of meaningfulness, theoretical analyses, and meaningfulness in PA learning. Discussions focus on rationale and general objectives, designs of experiments, techniques, construction and use of lists, and overview and specific analyses. The text then examines similarity and familiarization, including scalings, effects of similarity on acquisition and backward recall, familiarization and transfer, and effects of familiarization. The manuscript ponders on meaning and association and summary, significance, and suggestions. Topics include theoretical analyses and significance of empirical findings and conclusions, acquired-distinctiveness training, number of and associations among elements, induction of meaning and meaningfulness, and response-mediated associations. The publication is a dependable reference for researchers interested in paired-associates learning.

Book Affect and Accuracy in Recall

Download or read book Affect and Accuracy in Recall written by Eugene Winograd and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-02 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recollections of unexpected and emotional events (called 'flashbulb' memories) have long been the subject of theoretical speculation. Previous meetings have brought together everyone who has done research on memories of the Challenger explosion, in order to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon of flashbulb memories. How do flashbulb memories compare with other kinds of recollections? Are they unusually accurate, or especially long-lived? Do they reflect the activity of a special mechanism, as has been suggested? Although Affect and Accuracy in Recall focuses on flashbulb memories, it addresses more general issues of affect and accuracy. Do emotion and arousal strengthen memory? If so, under what conditions? By what physiological mechanisms? This 1993 volume is evidence of progress made in memory research since Brown and Kulick's 1977 paper.

Book A Functional Model of Memory Based on Physiological and Verbal Learning Data

Download or read book A Functional Model of Memory Based on Physiological and Verbal Learning Data written by J. Peter Kincaid and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents a functional model of memory based on verbal learning and physiological data. These diverse empirical data are used to describe several basic mechanisms of memory including: (a) separate mechanisms for short-term memory and for long-term memory; (b) the initiation of long-term memory by short-term memory; (c) the properties of short-term memory including autonomous decay, distortion by interference, and a limited capacity; (d) the properties of long-term memory including a consolidation process dependent upon ribonucleic acid (RNA) and enzymes, and a very large capacity; (e) the functional grouping of items in long-term memory; and (f) consolidated (long-term) memories that are reactivated, being brought back into short-term memory. Time courses of these events are described. The report describes how mnemonic techniques work and presents suggestions about how to improve memory training. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1984. This volume was organized for students of human memory and related cognitive processes. The issues deal not only with memory in unimpaired individuals, but also with impaired patients and with consolidation in lower animals. The chapters in this volume demonstrate that consolidation is a flourishing and controversial concept in memory research today. More than ten years after the seminal book of M cGaugh and Herz, questions about consolidation are re-examined in light of current models of human memory, its pathology, and its modulation by drugs.
