Book Oxygen storage dominated three way catalyst modeling

Download or read book Oxygen storage dominated three way catalyst modeling written by Jeremias Bickel and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key to achieve optimal emission performance of a modern three-way catalyst (TWC) under transient engine operating conditions is to maintain an optimal oxidation state of the oxygen storage material inside the washcoat of the catalyst. This work demonstrates how simplified kinetic models can be developed that allow for accurately predicting the oxygen storage level under dynamic operation.

Book Nonlinear Control Under Nonconstant Delays

Download or read book Nonlinear Control Under Nonconstant Delays written by Nikolaos Bekiaris-Liberis and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2013-09-25 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have developed a methodology for control of nonlinear systems in the presence of long delays, with large and rapid variation in the actuation or sensing path, or in the presence of long delays affecting the internal state of a system. In addition to control synthesis, they introduce tools to quantify the performance and the robustness properties of the designs provided in the book. The book is based on the concept of predictor feedback and infinite-dimensional backstepping transformation for linear systems and the authors guide the reader from the basic ideas of the concept?with constant delays only on the input?all the way through to nonlinear systems with state-dependent delays on the input as well as on system states. Readers will find the book useful because the authors provide elegant and systematic treatments of long-standing problems in delay systems, such as systems with state-dependent delays that arise in many applications. In addition, the authors give all control designs by explicit formulae, making the book especially useful for engineers who have faced delay-related challenges and are concerned with actual implementations and they accompany all control designs with Lyapunov-based analysis for establishing stability and performance guarantees.

Book Introduction to Modeling and Control of Internal Combustion Engine Systems

Download or read book Introduction to Modeling and Control of Internal Combustion Engine Systems written by Lino Guzzella and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internal combustion engines still have a potential for substantial improvements, particularly with regard to fuel efficiency and environmental compatibility. These goals can be achieved with help of control systems. Modeling and Control of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) addresses these issues by offering an introduction to cost-effective model-based control system design for ICE. The primary emphasis is put on the ICE and its auxiliary devices. Mathematical models for these processes are developed in the text and selected feedforward and feedback control problems are discussed. The appendix contains a summary of the most important controller analysis and design methods, and a case study that analyzes a simplified idle-speed control problem. The book is written for students interested in the design of classical and novel ICE control systems.

Book Model Based Control Design and Rapid Calibration for Air to Fuel Ratio Control of Stoichiometric Engines

Download or read book Model Based Control Design and Rapid Calibration for Air to Fuel Ratio Control of Stoichiometric Engines written by Sai S. V. Rajagopalan and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The air-fuel ratio control problem has been the focus of research in academia ever since the advent of microprocessor based control of automotive systems. With rising fuel costs, increased environmental consciousness, and the need to be competitive in the global market, automotive manufacturers, who have traditionally relied on extensive experimental calibration to fine tune performance, are moving towardsmodel based calibration of control gains to minimize costs and incorporate advances in power-train technology in a systematic manner. While solutions presented in the open literature to date illustrate the application of the plethora of modern control theory to this problem, calibration effort and emissions performance have not been given adequate priority. The work presented in this document bridges a gap between academia and industry by using modern advances in control theory to design a solution that significantly minimizes the calibration effort required to meet performance requirements. Through proper design of experiments, data collected from the plant is used to design mathematical models that represent the dominant dynamics observed in the intake system, the fueling, combustion and gas transport and finally the behavior of the three way catalyst. The structure of these models are chosen by a deep understanding of the physics involved. System identification is used to simplify the model structure. To capture the highly nonlinear operating condition based behavior of the plant, a linear parameter varying approach is used to schedule the model coefficients through the use of linear splines on manifold pressure, engine speed and coolant temperature. The control architecture chosen utilizes a servomechanism incorporating coordinated open and closed loop control action to meet the desired performance goal and is universal in the sense that both switching sensor and linear sensor based systems can be easily accommodated with minimal change. A rapid action inner-loop, with the pre-catalyst oxygen sensor feedback to control the engine exhaust, is used in conjunction with an outer loop with post catalyst oxygen sensor feedback, to control the oxygen storage in the catalyst. Calibration of the control gains is achieved through closed loop optimization using genetic algorithms. Parallel computing is used for this optimization. Performance and stability criteria are simultaneously incorporated in the cost function to achieve the desired goals. Numerical linear matrix inequality based tests are used to guarantee stability of the closed loop system over the entire operating region. Although the discussion in this dissertation is restricted to calibration of the inner-loop compensator, one can easily adopt the proposed techniques for the design of the outer-loop compensator, as well as for a wide variety of feedback control systems.
