Book excerpt: L'oxydation sélective du n-butane en anhydride maléique (AM) a été étudiée dans un réacteur catalytique membranaire (RCM) combinant un catalyseur en lit fixe et une membrane microporeuse utilisée comme distributeur d'oxygène. L'objectif de ce travail a été d'explorer les performances du RCM lorsqu'il est alimenté avec de fortes concentrations en butane, la distribution d'oxygène permettant de rester en dehors de la zone d'inflammabilité. L'exploration des effets de la distribution d'oxygène sur le fonctionnement du réacteur et de la composition O2/C4H10 sur ses performances (sélectivité AM) a été menée dans un premier temps. Les résultats nous ont conduits à modifier la composition du catalyseur et à préparer des solides à base d'oxydes mixtes de vanadium et de phosphore dopés par du cobalt. Contrairement aux catalyseurs oxydes non dopés, ces systèmes ont montré une sélectivité élevée en AM (75%), même dans les conditions fortement réductrices existant lorsque l'on travaille en faible rapport oxygène/butane. Le RCM a ensuite été mis en oeuvre avec ce catalyseur en l'alimentant avec de fortes concentrations en butane. Des valeurs de 15% de butane dans le mélange réactionnel ont été utilisées, alors que les procédés industriels sont limités à environ 2%, à cause des problèmes d'inflammabilité. Dans ces conditions, des productivités en AM trois plus élevées que celles obtenues en mélange réactionnel conventionnel ont été observées. Une approche de modélisation du RCM, basée sur les propriétés de transport de la membrane et sur les performances catalytiques a été développée.
