Download or read book Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction written by Filippo Crea and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past two decades a number of studies have shown that abnormalities in the function and structure of coronary microcirculation can be detected in several cardiovascular diseases. On the basis of the clinical setting in which it occurs, coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) can be classified into four types: CMD in the absence of any other cardiac disease; CMD in myocardial diseases; CMD in obstructive epicardial coronary artery disease; and iatrogenic CMD. In some instances CMD represents an epiphenomenon, whereas in others it represents an important marker of risk or may contribute to the pathogenesis of myocardial ischemia, thus becoming a possible therapeutic target. This book provides an update on coronary physiology and a systematic assessment of microvascular abnormalities in cardiovascular diseases, in the hope that it will assist clinicians in prevention, detection and management of CMD in their everyday activity.

Download or read book Management of Cardiovascular Disease in Women written by Hanna Z. Mieszczanska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women in the US, with more women dying from heart disease than men. Women may have different presentation from men and often need a different approach to diagnosis and treatment. There are also unique topics of management of heart disease in women, including issues during pregnancy, lactation, and menopause. Many different health care providers, as well as cardiologists are involved in treating these patients. A manual reviewing diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease in women would help providers without specific cardiology training to deliver care with greater efficiency. A practical and comprehensive guide geared towards these providers would be a highly practical and valuable resource that would be utilized in everyday practice in offices that include urban clinics, general medicine offices, obstetrics and gynecology offices, as well as in the surgical subspecialties. This book will be a highly practical resource that can be directly applied to the issues that arise in everyday practice. There is no available book on the market that focuses on a broader approach to cardiac disease in women or focuses on non-cardiology providers (and their trainees) who have the need to know more about treatment of cardiovascular disease in women.
Download or read book The Brugada Syndrome written by Charles Antzelevitch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, the cellular basis for sudden death, the BrugadaSyndrome, has largely remained an unknown to modernarrhythmologists and cardiologists, particularly in the absence ofany structural heart disease. Detailed observations of age-groups,especially the young, families and populations where sudden deathfrequently occurs, and improved understanding of its contributoryfactors and mechanisms are, however, showing the way forward. This addition to the Clinical Approaches to Tachyarrhythmias(CATA) Series, written by the investigators who discovered andprobed the Brugada Syndrome, discusses the history, etiology, pathology and clinical manifestations of sudden death. Fromdiagnosis, prognosis, to therapeutic approaches using the latest incathater ablation techniques, electrophysiological surgery, andgenetic appraisal, the work is a testimony to the author'sinvestigation. Using clinical cases in Thailand and Laos, theyfurther unravel the syndrome's molecular mechanisms, studyingrelated syndromes, such as the long-QT syndrome, infant death, andarryhthmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. By being informed of the electrophysiological abnormalities thatcontribute to familial and genetic diseases, physicians, cardiologists and all those who care for patients with cardiacarrhythmias will be better able to identify and treat patients inwhom the Brugada Syndrome may strike next.
