Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pesticde use in agriculture and non-agriculture settings has increased dramatically over the last several decades. Concern about adverse effects on the environment and human health has spurred an enormous amount of research into their environmental behavior and fate. Pesticides in Surface Waters presents a comprehensive summary of this research.

Book Development of an Aquatic Pesticide Toxicity Index for Use in Alberta

This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this report is to apply the pesticide toxicity index developed by M.D. Munn and R.J. Gilliom to Alberta pesticide data and to explore the value of this index as a relative measure of potential toxicity for Alberta surface waters. Some modifications to data handling and presentation of the original PTI are proposed.--Includes text from document.

Book Pesticides in Alberta Surface Waters a Study Carried Out Under the Canada Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture Agreement

Download or read book Pesticides in Alberta Surface Waters a Study Carried Out Under the Canada Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture Agreement written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summarizes a scoping-level study conducted to determine whether agricultural pesticides currently sold and used in large quantities in Alberta were detectable in small streams and lakes, and to compare their concentrations with Canadian water quality guidelines for the protection of aquatic life and for irrigation. The working hypothesis was that the pattern of pesticide detections would be influenced by the intensity of pesticide use in the drainage basins and by the median annual runoff. Using data from 1995 and 1996, the investigators tested the hypothesis by examining pesticide detections in streams and lakes draining land where pesticide use differs, and by comparing patterns of detections in lakes located in different runoff zones.

This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 400 pages. This book evaluates published studies that focus on measuring pesticide concentration. The studies chosen include peer reviewed scientific literature, government reports, laboratory studies, and those using microcosms and artificial streams and ponds. The authors used this information to develop their overview of pesticide contamination of surface waters. The exhaustive compilation of data along with the fundamental science make this book essential for those involved in pesticide use, environmental protection, water quality, and human or ecological risk assessment. Pesticides in Surface Waters covers the results of actual studies, sources of pesticides to surface water, fate and transport, and environmental significance. Hundreds of data-packed tables, maps, charts, and drawings illustrate the key points, making research and application easy and cost effective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the delta, water is boss, change is the only constant, and creation and destruction exist side by side." The Peace-Athabasca Delta in northern Alberta is a globally significant wetland that lies within one of the largest unfragmented landscapes in North America. Arguably the world's largest boreal inland delta, it is renowned for its biological productivity and is a central feature of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Yet the delta and its indigenous cultures lie downstream of Alberta's bitumen sands, whose exploitation comprises one of the largest industrial projects in the world. Kevin Timoney provides an authoritative synthesis of the science and history of the delta, describing its ecology, unraveling its millennia-long history, and addressing its uncertain future. Scientists, students, leaders in the energy sector, government officials and policy makers, and conscientious citizens everywhere should read this lively work.
