From book: How Do You Talk To A Dying One And I asked if she had forgiven herself, of everything, of nothing, of the specific thing, of the little and big things that we all regret and don't let go sometimes till it's too late. And I asked if she had forgiven the others, of everything, of the specific thing, of the little and big things the too human thing, the most inhuman things that were done to her. I could not settle asking about the weather, what she ate, the particulars of how her body feels the specifics of her day. But when her BFF finds true love for the second time, she finds herself surprisingly envious. Has her call to service—which she will never regret—somehow caused her to miss out on something special? The loneliness she’s kept at bay gnaws at her heart. Unprepared, he is bowled over by an instant, powerful spark of attraction—the kind he hasn’t allowed himself to feel for years. There’s no mistaking the allure the handsome cowboy holds for Pat, but the idea of giving up a lifetime of missionary work sets off a firestorm of doubt and indecision. Besides, Craig has children, grandchildren, and extended family members to think about. The fact she mistakes him for his brother, with whom she had a brief relationship decades ago, tempers the initial magnetism that draws Craig toward Pat, but the more they get to know one another, the more he wants her in his life. Book A GRIEF OBSERVED Based on a Personal Journal

Download or read book A GRIEF OBSERVED Based on a Personal Journal written by C. S. Lewis and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Grief Observed is a collection of Lewis's reflections on the experience of bereavement following the death of his wife, Joy Davidman, in 1960. The book was first published under the pseudonym N.W. Clerk as Lewis wished to avoid identification as the author. Though republished in 1963 after his death under his own name, the text still refers to his wife as "H" (her first name, which she rarely used, was Helen). The book is compiled from the four notebooks which Lewis used to vent and explore his grief. He illustrates the everyday trials of his life without Joy and explores fundamental questions of faith and theodicy. Lewis's step-son (Joy's son) Douglas Gresham points out in his 1994 introduction that the indefinite article 'a' in the title makes it clear that Lewis's grief is not the quintessential grief experience at the loss of a loved one, but one individual's perspective among countless others. The book helped inspire a 1985 television movie Shadowlands, as well as a 1993 film of the same name. Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.

It's a story that demonstrates the ability we have, to be all right, in spite of what life deals us. In 'My Good Grief', Cindyanne Kershaw tells about an unshakable belief in the goodness of life, and about a faith that transcends its sorrows, despite the deaths of her two husbands and a younger brother. 'My Good Grief', tells of her experiences with cancer, alcoholism and AIDS, and the way she lived through them. Although it's a heart-wrenching story about loving and losing, it's also meant to be an inspirational story about discovering joy and delight in the midst of it all, and loving again and again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrible events are very hard to deal with. Those who go through a catastrophic life experience, such as a car accident, assault, long-term abuse, an illness or bereavement, often feel permanently changed by the impact of what has happened. They become numb and shut off from those around them, or grief or guilt may constantly weigh them down. Memories of horrifying scenes may intrude unexpectedly during waking hours while sleep may be disturbed by vivid, unpleasant dreams. These two practical guides on trauma and how to cope with its aftermath are written by internationally recognise trauma experts. Overcoming Traumatic Stress - Claudia Herbert & Ann Wetmore Based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), this self-help guide offers a step-by-step programme to help you to understand your traumatic experience and how it's affecting you, and to start to rebuild your life. Traumatic stress responses, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) result from a person's coping mechanisms having been completely overwhelmed by a terrible experience. 'Flashbacks' may be so severe that sufferers may feel that they are losing their sanity and subsequently become ever more isolated in their distress. To overcome the effects of trauma it is necessary to change those reactions and begin to see events in a different light. This book demonstrates, with practical advice and tested exercises, how to find new, effective ways of coping with, and finally overcoming traumatic stress. To Hell and Back - John Marzillier In this innovative and engaging book, world-renowned psychologist John Marzillier dovetails first-hand accounts from trauma sufferers with over 40 years of clinical practice to provide an honest, human description of how trauma affects us at the time and also after the event. Whether discussing accounts of terrorist bombings, natural disasters, road accidents or physical attacks, he looks at what these experiences do to us and offers practical and consoling advice - for both sufferers and their loved ones - on coping with the experience and developing resilience for the future.

Book There I Am

Download or read book There I Am written by Ruthie Lindsey and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brain on Fire meets Carry On, Warrior in this inspirational memoir and “testament to the things that break us, heal us, and make us who we are” (Glennon Doyle, #1 New York Times bestselling author) that explores one woman’s journey from chronic pain and hopelessness to finding joy, redemption, and healing. At seventeen years old, Ruthie Lindsey is hit by an ambulance near her home in rural Louisiana. She’s given a five percent chance of survival and one percent chance of walking again. One month later after a spinal fusion surgery, Ruthie defies the odds, leaving the hospital on her own two feet. Just a few years later, newly married and living in Nashville, Ruthie begins to experience debilitating pain. Her case confounds doctors and after numerous rounds of testing, imaging, and treatment, they prescribe narcotic painkillers—lots of them. Ruthie has become bedridden, dependent on painkillers, and hopeless, when an X-ray reveals that the wire used to fuse her spine is piercing her brain stem. Without another staggeringly expensive experimental surgery, she could well become paralyzed, but in many ways, she already is. Ruthie goes into the hospital in chronic pain, dependent on prescription painkillers, and leaves the same way. She can still walk but has no idea where she’s going. As her life unravels, Ruthie returns home to Louisiana and sets out on a journey to learn joy again. She trades fentanyl for sunsets and morphine for wildflowers, weaning herself off of the drugs and beginning the process of healing—of coming home to her body. Raw and redemptive, There I Am is not just about the magic of optimism, but the work of it. Ruthie’s extraordinary memoir “like going on a walk with a best friend and listening to a life-changing speech at the same time: it’s equal parts familiar and profound, warm and insightful, comforting and challenging, relatable and unlike anything you’ve read before” (Mari Andrew, New York Times bestselling author).
