Book excerpt: SEVEN OUTRAGEOUS TRUTHS YOU CAN STILL BELIEVE . . . AND WHY ·“Every other religion is wrong.” ·“God sends good people to Hell.” ·“Homosexuality is a perversion.” ·“Evolution is a myth.” ·“God is ultimately responsible for suffering in the world.” ·“Husbands are to lead their families.” ·“America is a Christian nation.” In Hell? Yes! Dr. Robert Jeffress issues a bold wakeup call to all believers–from college students to grandparents–to stop apologizing for and start proclaiming the tough but essential truths that Christians have historically embraced. And he provides the finest biblical, scientific, and historical evidence needed to defend these core beliefs in a culture turned hostile to God's truth. Dr. Jeffress believes the secular spirit of political correctness is holding the church hostage. And the tragic result is that the revolutionary, life-changing, positive message of the Christian faith is being watered down. If you are weary of a Christianity that waffles and wavers about controversial issues–if you are ready to stand up and compassionately yet forcefully and intelligently say, “This is what I believe and here’s why”–then this book is for you!

Book Unemployment s Shocking Truth

Download or read book Unemployment s Shocking Truth written by Jack Stone and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2008-06-03 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book This book does not take a neutral stand on the issue of mass unemployment. It is an effort to expose capitalism's most outrageous feature - its compulsive need to use unemployment and the fear of unemployment to ensure the docility and subservience of its workers. Under the capitalist system, the stick of the fear of unemployment is necessary to keep workers' noses to the grindstone and make them perform to the satisfaction of their employers. The stick is needed because much work is boring, the carrot paid is less than a living wage, provides workers very little or no control over the work process, and stifles creativity - in short because the total carrot offered to numerous workers is so woefully inadequate. Under a different system, one in which working people participated fully in the decisions affecting what, how and for what purpose goods and services were produced; if we had a system based on economic democracy, there would be no need to use the stick of the fear of unemployment. The creativity of most of the millions of working people, now mostly dormant, would be awakened and the volume and quality of improvements and inventions especially in housing, energy, transit systems and health care would be so great as to tower high above and completely overshadow the number and purpose of the innovations created under the present system. The issue of unemployment is shrouded in half-truths and outright lies. As a result, there is almost total ignorance about the real causes of unemployment and worse still, about its very serious consequences. Many claim that there are enough jobs but that the unemployed are lazy and would rather be on welfare. While this may be true of a very small fraction of the unemployed, it is not true of the overwhelming majority. There have been numerous instances in which whenever advertisements calling for applicants for relatively well-paid jobs or for jobs that paid better than the minimum wage, the number of applicants that applied for those jobs were ten or more times greater than the number of jobs that were advertised. In September 26th of 1984, to mention just one instance, the Associated Press News Agency reported that "50,000 people lined up for 350 jobs." The report went on to say that "the applicants, some of whom waited in line for two days, hope to land a longshoreman's job paying $15.45 an hour or a marine clerk's job earning $17.45 an hour... However the fact that only 350 jobs are currently available didn't dismay the crowd, which queued up in a line in the San Pedro district [of Los Angeles] that stretched for 13 mile..." Clearly, the majority would rather have gainful employment at a living wage and live a life of dignity and integrity. Furthermore apart from the simple need to earn a living, productive employment is an indispensable part of the psychological makeup of human beings. Simply put, people want to feel useful. Prolonged joblessness is a serious threat to a person's self-esteem and destroying that self-esteem has appalling consequences. The ugly truth is that the system under which we live will not or cannot provide jobs for those who need them. The business class is simply not interested in full employment because mass unemployment provides them with many benefits. Among those benefits: a large pool of unemployed workers drives down the wages employers have to pay.

Book The Shocking Truth About Palm Oil

Download or read book The Shocking Truth About Palm Oil written by Bruce Fife and published by Piccadilly Books, Ltd.. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you realize it or not, you are likely consuming palm oil every single day. Palm oil is the most widely used oil in the world. You will find it in the majority of the packaged foods you buy at the grocery store. You are likely eating it every time you go to a restaurant. Even the foods you get at health food stores contain palm oil. The amount of palm oil used in our foods has dramatically increased over the past few years. In an attempt to reduce the amount toxic trans fats in our foods, food manufacturers have been replacing hydrogenated vegetable oils with other oils, principally palm oil. However, is this a wise move? Palm oil contains a high percentage of saturated fat. Some people have questioned the addition of more saturated fat into the diet. What effect will it have on our health? Some say it will increase the risks of heart disease and obesity, while others claim it will protect against these conditions and promote improved health. The media has loudly sounded the alarm against palm oil citing massive deforestation and the destruction of native wildlife as virgin land is cleared for oil palm cultivation. Yet, others claim the media’s attack against palm oil is nothing more than a cleverly orchestrated publicity campaign spearheaded by the competing seed oil industry. With all of the conflicting information in the media and on the Internet, it is difficult to separate fact from fiction. What is the truth? Is palm oil destroying our health and the planet or is it of benefit to us and the environment? This book exposes the lies and who is behind them, and reveals the facts.

Book excerpt: Laurence and Weinhouse shine a penetrating light on the medical establishment and discover pervasive neglect, rampant gender bias, and systematized discrimination in women's health care -- an issue that has galvanized women in the nineties. They investigate the shocking anti-woman bias at medical schools and research facilities, and takes to task physicians' offices, where female patients are treated differently from their male counterparts. They eloquently demonstrate that sexist medicine is bad science -- and the demand for nonsexist treatment is nothing less than the demand for equitable treatment in research, education, and patient care.
