Book excerpt: Become the Light of Christ in Dark Places When she was only twenty-three years old, Rachelle Starr started going to strip clubs to share Christ's love with the dancers. Now, having founded a Christian ministry to people in the adult entertainment industry, she demonstrates the key to shining Christ's light into the darkness--love people one at a time and continue to love them no matter what. Loving others like Jesus did has to be more than social media shares and likes--we need to meet people in their pain, growing in our empathy and love for those God has placed in our lives. But maybe you're afraid or unsure where to start. This book will light a fire in your soul to step out in greater ways and to become fearlessly and outrageously obedient to the Lord. Be inspired by Rachelle's true stories and biblical encouragement, and discover the courage to say yes to God. Then witness the fruit and the blessings of your obedience! "You may never have Bible studies with prostitutes, but you will be invigorated and galvanized by Rachelle's infectious stories and plain-spoken truth."--KYLE IDLEMAN, bestselling author of Not a Fan and One at a Time

Book English Evangelicals and Tudor Obedience c 1527 1570

Download or read book English Evangelicals and Tudor Obedience c 1527 1570 written by Ryan Reeves and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heart of this book lies in the important discovery that a pivotal Tudor argument in favor of the Royal Supremacy—the argument from Psalm 82 that earthly kings are ‘gods’ on this earth—is in fact Zwinglian in origin. This teaching from Psalm 82, which originated in Zurich in the mid-1520s, was soon used extensively in England to justify the Supremacy, and English evangelicals—from Tyndale to Cranmer—unanimously embraced this Protestant argument in their writings on political obedience. The discovery of this link shows conclusive, textual proof of the ‘Zurich Connection’ between Swiss political teachings and those popular under Tudor kings. This study argues, then, that evangelical attitudes towards royal authority were motivated by the assumption that Protestantism supported ‘godly kingship’ over against ‘papal tyranny’. As such, it is the first monograph to find a vital connection between early Swiss Protestant similar teachings on obedience and later teachings by evangelicals.

Book The Force of Obedience

Download or read book The Force of Obedience written by Beatrice Hibou and published by Polity. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The events that took place in Tunisia in January 2011 were the spark igniting the uprisings that swept across North Africa and the Middle East, toppling dictators and leading to violent conflict and tense stand-offs. What was it about this small country in North Africa that enabled it to play this exceptional role? This book is a deeply informed account of the exercise of power in Tunisia in the run-up to the revolt that forced its authoritarian ruler, Ben Ali, into exile. It analyses the practices of domination and repression that were pervasive features of everyday life in Tunisia, showing how the debt economy and the systems of social solidarity and welfare created forms of subjection and mutual dependence between rulers and ruled, enabling the reader to understand how a powerful protest movement could develop despite tight control by police and party. For those wishing to understand the extraordinary events unfolding across the Arab world, this rich, subtle and insightful book is the indispensable starting point.

  • Pages : 492 pages

Download or read book Humanity written by Jonathan Glover and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned moral philosopher Jonathan Glover confronts the brutal history of the twentieth century to unravel the mystery of why so many atrocities occurred. In a new preface, Glover brings the book through the post-9/11 era and into our own time—and asks whether humankind can "weaken the grip war has on us." Praise for the first edition: “It is hard to imagine a more important book. Glover makes an overwhelming case for the need to understand our own inhumanity, and reduce or eliminate the ways in which it can express itself—and he then begins the task himself. Humanity is an extraordinary achievement.”—Peter Singer, Princeton University “This is an extraordinary book: brilliant, haunting and uniquely important. Almost 40 years ago a president read a best seller and avoided a holocaust. I like to think that some of the leaders and followers of tomorrow will read Humanity.”—Steven Pinker, New York Times Book Review
