Book Global Oil Trends

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gulf crisis has once again drawn attention to the volatility of the worlds largest industry. Even in its aftermath, trends in the world oil market are unclear.Global Oil Trends provides a detailed assessment and long-term perspective of the global oil market in general and the Asia-Pacific market in particular. The 1990 oil crisis is reviewed and the possible impact of growing environmental concerns on the oil industry is discussed. For the last two decades oil demand in the Asia-Pacific region has been the highest in the world and this trend is expected to continue into the future. Global Oil Trends analyses the role of the Asia-Pacific region in the world oil market, discusses the regional oil supply-demand balance, the prospects for the trading of oil products, and the development of the oil refining industry in the region.Global Oil Trends is valuable not only for those in the oil industry but also for academicians, energy planners, university students who are concerned with the global oil situation and the dynamism of the Asia-Pacific oil market.

Book Oil and Energy Demand in Developing Countries in 1990

Download or read book Oil and Energy Demand in Developing Countries in 1990 written by Charles Wolf and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the study on which this paper is based, we try to develop some reasonable forecasts of NOLDC energy demands in the next 10 years. Our focus is mainly on the demand for oil, but we also give some attention to the total commercial energy requirements of these countries. We have tried to be explicit about the uncertainties associated with our forecasts, and with the income and price elasticities on which they are based. Finally, we consider the forecasts in terms of their implications for U.S. policies concerning the NOLDCs, and suggest areas of future research on NOLDC energy issues.

Book Review and Outlook for the World Oil Market

Download or read book Review and Outlook for the World Oil Market written by Shane S. Streifel and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the collapse of the Soviet system, the immense problems of environmental pollution in Central and Eastern Europe were widely publicized. Less well known were its effects on health in the region, which have led to a serious health crisis. This report examines the degree to which the pollution adversely affected human health, putting it in the context of other health determinants such as socioeconomic factors, health care standards and availability, and lifestyle factors. Among the numerous pollutants, the report points to lead, dust, toxic gases, and nitrates in rural water supplies as having a significant impact on health in Central and Eastern Europe. The author suggests possible avenues for international action. However, an analysis of the determinants of health reveals that addressing the pollution problems alone will not solve the health crisis. Improving health in this region will depend on the changing economic fortunes of individual countries and the ability of each to create a supportive social environment for its citizens.

Book The Demand for Oil and Energy in Developing Countries

Download or read book The Demand for Oil and Energy in Developing Countries written by Charles Wolf and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How much of the world's oil and energy supply will the non-OPEC less-developed countries (NOLDCs) demand in the next decade? How will their economic growth affect world demand? To answer these questions, the authors have tried to develop some reasonable forecasts of NOLDC energy demands in the next ten years. Although the focus is mainly on demand for oil, some attention is given to the total commercial energy requirements of these countries. The data used in fitting the models cover 77 NOLDCs, which, in 1976, accounted for 79 percent of total oil consumption by all 124 NOLDCs. The uncertainties associated with the forecasts are spelled out, as are the income and price elasticities on which the forecasts are based. Finally, the authors consider the forecasts in terms of their implications for U.S. energy policies concerning the NOLDCs and suggest areas of future research on NOLDC energy issues.

  • Author : Edward R. Fried

Download or read book Oil Security written by Edward R. Fried and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil stands alone among primary commodities in its potential for sending economic shock waves across the world. The value of oil production is one and a half times the world's total production of food grains; demand is unresponsive to price in the short run; and the world's oil resources are heavily concentrated in the Middle East, where political disturbances have been chronic and oil supply is subject to sudden interruption. Together, these factors have made oil a virtual rogue elephant in the world economy since 1973. This book discusses the oil shocks of 1973-74, 1979-80, and the "minishock" of 1990-91, and examines the possibility of oil shocks over the next twenty years. The authors assess the world market outlook on the basis of underlying trends on world oil supply and demand. They take into account prospects for investment in oil production in the Persian Gulf states, the former Soviet republics, and Latin America; environmental factors and policies; and political uncertainties in the Middle East.
