Book The B S Johnson Zulfikar Ghose Correspondence

Download or read book The B S Johnson Zulfikar Ghose Correspondence written by Vanessa Guignery and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-01 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1959 to 1973, the writers B. S. Johnson and Zulfikar Ghose regularly wrote letters to each other in which they discussed their own work and literary preoccupations. They exchanged early drafts of poems, short stories, plays and novels, and their correspondence contains detailed comments and extended analyses of these texts, as well as illuminating reflections on literature, criticism, poetics and aesthetics. Though much of the correspondence is an extended literary discussion, it also contains moments of personal revelation, jokes and anecdotes so that the letters, with their surprising asides, are enjoyable to read, even as they inform with their biographical and intellectual content. The two authors also frequently refer to the university poetry journals and literary magazines they contributed to or edited, and they write about the poetry meetings they attended and the writers they met or read. Their involvement in literary groups and their dealings with publishers, editors and agents are indicative of the publishing mechanisms of the time. This correspondence thus not only provides insight into the work of both B. S. Johnson and Zulfikar Ghose, but also conjures up a comprehensive picture of the London literary world of the 1960s.

Book The Oliver Stone Experience Text Only Edition

Download or read book The Oliver Stone Experience Text Only Edition written by Matt Zoller Seitz and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stone himself serves as guide to this no-holds-barred retrospective—an extremely candid and comprehensive monograph of the renowned and controversial writer, director, and cinematic historian in interview form. Over the course of five years, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone (Midnight Express, Scarface, Platoon, JFK, Natural Born Killers, Snowden) and New York Times bestselling author Matt Zoller Seitz (The Wes Anderson Collection) discussed, debated, and deconstructed the arc of Stone's outspoken, controversial life and career with extraordinary candor. This book collects those conversations for the first time, including anecdotes about Stone's childhood, Vietnam, his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, and his continual struggle to reinvent himself as an artist. Critical commentary from Seitz on each of Stone's films is joined by original essays from filmmaker Ramin Bahrani; writer, editor, and educator Kiese Laymon; writer and actor Jim Beaver; and film critics Walter Chaw, Michael Guarnieri, Kim Morgan, and Alissa Wilkinson. At once a complex analysis of a master director’s vision and a painfully honest critical biography in widescreen technicolor, The Oliver Stone Experience is as daring, intense, and provocative as Stone’s films—it's an Oliver Stone movie about Oliver Stone, in the form of a book. Both this book and Stone’s highly anticipated film, Snowden, will be released in September 2016 to coincide with Stone’s seventieth birthday (September 15, 1946). Also available from Matt Zoller Seitz: Mad Men Carousel, The Wes Anderson Collection: Bad Dads, The Wes Anderson Collection: The Grand Budapest Hotel, and The Wes Anderson Collection.

Book Levelling up My Arse

Download or read book Levelling up My Arse written by TheBinMan and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Levelling up is a political term coined by the British conservative political group whom decided in about 2018 that if they were to stay in power in England, now that they had lost Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland, through consistently being selfish to their own needs and as a by product letting people not in Westminster down or double crossing them completely to suit the needs of Londoners and rich people in general. There reasoning therefore is that if they are to stay in power, they need to promise to help northern people in England to realise their dreams at least for the children of the Northerners who are likely to vote. This promise is wrapped in the Brexit referendum as that was when northerners switched from Labour to conservative in droves and the so-called red wall in the North became multicoloured and interspersed with the conservative blue and liberal yellow. So, to stay in power it is English voters that matter and there aren’t enough southern seats to keep them in power. The main flaw with this strategy, is that they have no intention to keep this promise and will soon be found wanting in the north.
