Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Theology in Outline: Can These Bones Live? began with an undergraduate course taught by Robert W. Jenson at Princeton University in the spring of 2008. Based on a series of twenty-three course lectures, it offers a concise and accessible overview of Christian theology while retaining the atmosphere of Jenson's classroom. Much as does Jenson's Systematic Theology, A Theology in Outline treats a standard sequence of doctrines in Christian theology--God, Trinity, creation, humanity, sin, salvation, church, among others. However, its organizing principle and leitmotiv are less traditional. Reflecting his recent interest in theological interpretation of scripture, Jenson frames the whole of Christian theology as a response to the question posed to the prophet Ezekiel: "Son of man, can these bones live?" For Jenson, to ask this question is to ask whether Christian theology itself is a pile of dead bones. Can the story that God lives with his people be told today? From first to last the chapters of this book proceed under the impelling pressure of this question. They thus comprise a single sequence of illustrative conversations for the purpose of introducing beginners to Christian theology.

Book excerpt: Theology is for everyone. Everyone is a theologian of sorts. Theology simply means thinking about God and expressing those thoughts in some way. But sloppy theology is a problem. As Christians, our thoughts about God need to coincide with what He has said about Himself in the Bible. With his clear understanding of the Scriptures and unpretentious writing style, Charles Ryrie has written Basic Theology for every student of God's Word, from the devotional student to the seminary student. Ryrie's name has become synonymous with dispensational theology and his texts on the subject invaluable to the Bible scholar. Now Ryrie's Basic Theology is available to you from Moody Press, the company that brings you the Ryrie Study Bible. Featuring charts, definitions, and Scripture and subject indices, Basic Theology will give you a clear and comprehensive picture of Ryrie's approach to systematic theology. Its 94 chapters are arranged in outline style for easy reference. Considerable emphasis is given to explaining the dispensational view of the end times.

Book Outlines of Christian Theology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Outlines of Christian Theology Classic Reprint written by Rev. Cornelius Walker and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Christian Theology The object sought in the pages following is to present in brief outline the leading topics in a course of theological study. It is substantially that which the writer has pursued with his classes successively during the last eighteen or twenty years. The ultimate authority, as also the source of material, is that of inspired Scripture. For full statement and investigation of many of the subjects discussed, his pupils will recognize the text-book used - Knapp's "Theology" as also others referred to - those of Dr. Hodge, of Hill, of Dorner, of Martensen, of Lindsay Alexander, and of Yon Oosterzee. To these may be added, of more recent date, those of Dr. Buel, of Dr. Shedd, of Dr. Strong, and of Dr. Hodge, the younger. To the earnest student there is, in these works and others easily accessible, abundant material for full and thorough investigation of every issue and topic in Christian theology. But while thus with the advanced student, the object here is to take hold of and to help the beginner, to indicate the substance and natural order of the problems with which he is called to deal, as also their grounds of evidence and verification.
