Book The Photo choice Method for Recreation Research

Download or read book The Photo choice Method for Recreation Research written by Elwood L. Shafer and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do people want in forest-oriented outdoor recreation, and what are they willing to pay for it? This question is being asked constantly by those recreation planners and administrators who are striving to serve the public better. We will probably never be able to determine preferences for all types of outdoor recreation facilities; this is so because the effects of certain population variables cannot be measured. However, there are areas in which scientific investigation of user preferences may prove useful--such as measuring preferences for park facilities and design, or measuring preferences for forest environmental conditions. It is in these areas of research that the photo-choice method may be an appropriate tool.

Book The New Economics of Outdoor Recreation

Download or read book The New Economics of Outdoor Recreation written by Nick Hanley and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a series of analyses of the economics of outdoor recreation, this book covers real-world recreation management issues and applies economic understanding to these problems. The book is divided into three parts, each of which focuses on a specific environmental resource: mountains, forests and rivers and the sea. An array of valuation methods - including stated preference and revealed preference techniques - are then applied to various outdoor recreation activities which occur in these different settings. These include such diverse pursuits as rock climbing, skiing, fishing, hunting and whale watching. The authors clearly demonstrate how recreation modelling can offer a productive link between people (their preferences and behaviour) and the natural environment.

Book Estimating Economic Values for Nature

Download or read book Estimating Economic Values for Nature written by Vincent Kerry Smith and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 1996-06 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estimating Economic Values for Nature presents, in one volume, a collection of V. Kerry Smith's papers prepared over 25 years dealing with the theory and practice of non-market valuation for environmental resources. Taken together, the papers explore the conceptual basis, the implementation process and empirical performance of all available methods of measuring economic values for the services of nature and how these values are constructed from people's choices. The issues discussed in this volume include travel cost recreation demand, averting behaviour, household production, hedonic property value, hedonic wage and contingent valuation methods. These essays describe what has been learned from past benefit analysis, using meta-analysis, as well as the issues at the frontier of current research in the area. This important volume will be welcomed by environmental and public economists, as well as practitioners of cost-benefit analysis, as an authoritative and comprehensive discussion of non-market valuation.

Book Economic Valuation Of Natural Resources

Download or read book Economic Valuation Of Natural Resources written by Rebecca L Johnson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Allocation of natural resources has become a prominent concern at the local, state, and federal level. Competing uses for increasingly scarce resources are requiring that the relative values of those uses be investigated. Although many types of value are important in decision making, this book is concerned with the economic value of natural resources. Economic values for certain natural resources are readily observable in markets. For others, however, market prices are not available, and estimates of value must be made through nonmarket valuation techniques. The progress that has been made in improving the theory, methods, and applications of these techniques has been remarkable. Along with the progress, however, come new problems that must be addressed. The chapters presented in this volume are a collection of examples of both progress and problems.

Book Outdoor Recreation Policy

Download or read book Outdoor Recreation Policy written by John D. Hutcheson and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1990-11-20 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited anthology, another fine work from Greenwood Press, should be of acute interest to those responsible for managing or studying outdoor recreation in the US. Unlike most works on this subject, which are written by those active in the field, the contributors to this book are largely political scientists. Their perspectives about policy relevant to the recreational use of public lands are new and make a significant contribution. . . . The 19 contributors examine important topics such as planning for recreational uses of natural resources, citizen participation in outdoor recreation policy making, the measurement of service provision and data needs, bureaucratic value structures, and economic/financial concerns. . . . A must for any collection addressing natural resources management. Choice This book includes chapters by some of the leading analysts in outdoor recreation research. Experts in the fields of natural resource management, geography, economics, political science, forestry, and leisure sociology address current issues in outdoor recreation policy. The underlying themes of all chapters are the preservation/use dilemma inherent in outdoor recreation policy and the management of natural resources. Extremely comprehensive and current, the volume focuses on the economic, social, attitudinal, and demographic considerations pertinent in today's outdoor recreation policy formulation. The first section of the book defines the dimensions of the preservation/use dilemma as well as key concepts in outdoor recreation research. The next two sections focus upon the measurement of the benefits of recreational resources and the financing of maintenance and management of natural resource areas. Another section includes chapters on the assessment of public preferences and the outdoor recreation demands/needs of various constituencies. The fifth section of the book includes chapters which focus upon federal agencies' approaches to the implementation of recreation resource policies. The final section includes chapters which describe management techniques that may be utilized in attempting to balance the demands of preservation and use. Accessible to a wide audience, the book makes valuable reading for policymakers, administrators, and scholars in the areas of recreation and natural resources.
