Book The Photo choice Method for Recreation Research

Download or read book The Photo choice Method for Recreation Research written by Elwood L. Shafer and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do people want in forest-oriented outdoor recreation, and what are they willing to pay for it? This question is being asked constantly by those recreation planners and administrators who are striving to serve the public better. We will probably never be able to determine preferences for all types of outdoor recreation facilities; this is so because the effects of certain population variables cannot be measured. However, there are areas in which scientific investigation of user preferences may prove useful--such as measuring preferences for park facilities and design, or measuring preferences for forest environmental conditions. It is in these areas of research that the photo-choice method may be an appropriate tool.

Download or read book Land and Leisure written by Carlton S. Van Doren and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-25 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1974. Leisure has come to be a vital force in our lives, a part of self-discovery, essential for our well-being. With increased amounts of leisure time, there has been rapid growth in the demand for diverse recreational facilities and their subsequent overuse. With this in mind, it is clear why the planning, managing and administration of recreational resources, particularly in urban areas, is of personal interest to everyone. Land and Leisure introduces the student to all aspects of recreational land use - spatial, economic, behavioural and physical. This second edition is designed to demonstrate some of the basic up-to-date ideas and issues of the last decade and a half that have been influential in shaping decisions, and is concerned both with urban recreation and the uses of resources within metropolitan areas and with the role of the private sector in providing facilities. The book is divided into five parts with discussions ranging over topics such as the individual's recreational needs, recreational land-use evaluation, regional planning and the problems of decision-making and the provision of recreational resources. Its interdisciplinary approach will enable students to understand the problems, concepts, methods and approaches helpful in furthering and integrating their knowledge of recreational resources.

Book excerpt: This textbook presents a comprehensive overview of the environmental impacts of various types of outdoor recreation, and how these can be best managed. As a field of study, recreational ecology is both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, and the authors seek to develop a deeper understanding of both the role and function of the factors that influence visitor numbers and their impact. An accessible and comprehensive textbook, it features numerous types of outdoor recreational activities including hill walking, rock climbing, mountain marathons, skiing, scuba diving and more. Drawn from several global case studies, the authors estimate the current and future numbers involved in outdoor recreation, and how best these numbers can be managed. Effective visitor impact management actions arise from collaboration between recreation ecologists, social scientists, experienced recreation managers, recreation stakeholders and the recreationalists themselves: as such, this book will be multi-disciplinary in scope. This practical and engaging textbook will be invaluable to students and scholars of outdoor recreation and adventure tourism as well as practitioners and managers working in the field.

Book Outdoor Recreation Participation in the United States Projections To 2060

Download or read book Outdoor Recreation Participation in the United States Projections To 2060 written by J. Bowker and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-03 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We developed national projections through 2060 of participation for 17 outdoor recreation activities. The projections were made under futures that vary by population growth, socioeconomic conditions, land use changes, and climate. We used a two-step approach to project the number of participants and the days of participation. The estimation step yielded national-level statistical models of adult participation rate and days of participation by activity. The simulation step combined the models with external projections of explanatory variables at 10-year intervals to 2060. Per capita estimates for participation and days were then combined with population projections to derive estimates of participants and days of participation by activity. Results were derived across three 2010 Resources Planning Act Assessment scenarios that each feature three associated climate futures. Findings indicated that outdoor recreation will remain a key part of the social and economic fabric of the United States.
